Jaipuria Noida STUDENT Speaks

“It’s great to be the ‘first placed’ of the 2012 batch at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida,” says Jyoti Anand, Management trainee at Deloitte.

Jyoti Anand joined Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida in 2010 with very high expectations. Jyoti had distinguished herself by securing 87% in her B.Com Honours course at the undergraduate level. Not only was she the college topper in Patna Women’s College, but she was also was the recipient of the Dr. Kapileshwar Jha Scholarship Award for securing the second position in the entire Patna University.

“My dream company has always been Deloitte. It has always been the first company to visit Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida during the placement season. This suited me very well as I aspired to be the ‘first placed’ of my course.”
But the recruitment process of Deloitte was not as smooth as Jyoti had hoped it would be. There were 7 rounds in all, with the first being an online listening and reading test. This was followed by the reasoning test round, the finance basics test and an excel test. While Jyoti cleared these rounds, her real challenge came in the fourth round, known as the Versant Telephonic Round, which essentially assesses verbal skills in English.

“The Telephonic round was a big hurdle for me; I kept missing the cut-off by 1-3 marks. I was really depressed after appearing for the Versant round thrice and missing it by a whisker every time, and decided to quit. But my friends at Jaipuria Noida didn’t let me give up, reminding me that it was my dream job and I should fight for it till the very end. The faculty at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida also backed me, advising me to trust in my hard work and sincerity. This gave me renewed strength to try and make the cut.”

After a month-long wait, Jyoti Anand was called for the Interview process, which made up the last three rounds for Deloitte.
“The HR interview and the Business interview were a cake-walk for me, but the Technical interview was a high pressure affair. I had to really think hard to impress the interviewer in the technical round.”

Ultimately, Jyoti Anand did get her dream job, as well as the tag of being the ‘first placed’ of her batch at Jaipuria Noida. Jyoti is currently placed as a Management Trainee at Deloitte Tax LLP (India US Taxation).

“This position focuses on providing individual tax and business tax return compliance process services, including projections, tax accounting, and related income tax compliance research for US federal, state and international tax matters. It also includes identification and preparation of advisory services related to income tax matters. May and September were really hectic but enjoyable, as that’s when most of our clients in the US file their IT returns.”

Jyoti feels that Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida teaches its students never to give up. She advises her juniors at Jaipuria Noida to keep up their fighting spirit, against all odds.
