Jaipuria Indore students train with Edelweiss

Experiential learning has been established as one of the best ways to instill education, and of course, very few schools can beat Jaipuria Institute of Management on that. Jaipuria focuses strongly on creating real-world experiences for its students in order to create industry-ready professionals. It’s each and every initiative is testimony to that fact. Continuing with these efforts, 24 first-year students from the PGDM 2013-15 batch of Jaipuria Indore were inducted into a training programme from the 10th through the 26th of October with Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd. Edelweiss is one of India’s leading diversified financial services groups. The company offers a large range of products and services cutting across asset classes and consumer segments. Its businesses are broadly divided into Credit (including Retail Finance) and Debt Capital Markets, Financial Markets including Asset Management, Commodities and Life Insurance.

The training, that lasted from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm every day, covered mock trading in office and marketing of the company in outer areas of Indore. The training was conducted in the office of Edelweiss at Janjirwala area in Indore. Students were divided into small groups to work on different activities simultaneously. A part of the training dealt with understanding the basics of the capital market. Ancy Johnson shares, “We did mock trading, which gave us an idea about the stock market and its intrinsic details. The best and most exciting part of the project for me was when we used the real terminal screen. There was always this curiosity to know about the share market and to actually deal in it was amazing; mock trading gave me that platform to experience it.” Vatsal Bagadiya describes the experience as an ‘electrifying’ one and says, “In the initial stage of the project, we learned the basics, which helped us to become familiar with terms related to trading in the capital market. Later, we were introduced to various financial products available in the market. The project covered financial concepts which can be applied in practical world to predict the market structure and analyse the given situation to make decisions.”

The marketing vertical helped students understand the challenges of the existing market and put their client interaction skills to the test. The trainees were made familiar with the various marketing activities of Edelweiss, which gave them insights into marketing communication requirements for the domain. The experience allowed the students to explore the possibilities of a career in the industry. “I enjoyed the project and after the learning, I realise that this is one of the best fields to choose for my career”, shares Vatsal, who is attracted to the field but is saving the final choice for a later date and time.
