Bikaner girl – Komal Baid of Jaipuria Jaipur bags Investment Banking placement at Moody’s Analytics

“An investment in knowledge pays best interest,” said Benjamin Franklin. Bikaner girl Komal Baid was clearly aware of that when she moved to Jaipur to pursue her management program at Jaipuria Institute of Management. She also possessed unique clarity about her career goal. She wanted to make her mark in the lucrative world of Finance. After almost two years the investment has paid off, with an exciting career foray into Investment Banking. We talked to her about her placement with Moody’s Analytics and Knowledge services and the road that led to it.
Given her strong focus on the domain, it wasn’t surprising that Komal chose Finance as specialization in her PGDM. According to her, the knowledge she gained at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur held her in good stead, especially during her PI as it was about the technical knowledge. “More than 60 students had given their nominations for placements. For the Group Discussion round I was the only one who backed my arguments with figures. I think that helped me stand out. The Personal Interview tested my knowledge by I stayed calm and enthusiastic throughout it,” she explains.
Komal’s love for numbers is clearly visible. But it’s something that has been honed at her B School, Jaipuria Jaipur. She smiles as she reminisces about her early days on the campus. She remembers that initially it was all about project based work to imbibe team spirit and leadership skills. “But things moved to the next gear soon. There were several platforms like Finance Conclaves, which brought us insights from the corporate world. I don’t think I would have been so well prepared for the placements without this solid preparation” she admits.
Komal believes that the internship plays a huge role in helping management students be prepared for professional challenges. Her internship took her back to Bikaner as she worked with HDFC AMC on ‘Individual Perception and Awareness towards Mutual Funds’ project. “The internship may not have been in core Finance but it certainly increased my interest and zest for the domain. Everything I learned there will be used in my professional role as part of an investment banking team,” she says brimming with confidence.
But confidence isn’t the only attribute Komal has gained during her internship. In fact, she believes her holistic journey at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur has taught her the significance of being a good listener, giving your best efforts, and staying patient for the results. Being the Head of the Student Welfare and Disciplinary Committee at her B School has also equipped her to handle teams and be a strong leader. She will be counting on those skills and experiences as she embarks on her professional journey that has made a promising start.

Kratika’s continuous pursuit for self-improvement gets her placed with Deloitte

“The Universe wrote fiction in us: It’s called Fear,” wrote bohemian poet Christopher Poindexter. It creeps up on the best of us and letting go of that overwhelming feeling is one of the greatest challenges of life. Kratika Sharma believes Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur made her face her fears and come out of her comfort zone. So much so that in a short span of time the self-proclaimed introvert was presenting a paper at International Youth Conference. The PGDM Batch 2018 – 20 student went on to surmount many other challenges to get to her goal. She has been placed with International consultant powerhouse Deloitte in the role of a US Tax Consultant.
Taking us through her story of transformation is not a task for the erstwhile introvert. Kratika starts at the beginning and tells us how she landed her dream job. “When I first came to Jaipuria, Jaipur I had only one goal in mind. I wanted to keep improving and become a better version of myself. At Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur I was given ample opportunities to push myself to places I had never dreamt of. The group projects and presentations helped me get rid of my stage fright and become more confident. There was inspiration all around, especially from Dr. Anurag Singh, our Dean of Academics. He kept raising my curiosity about Finance and kept things interesting.
That was important for me because I have chosen Finance and Marketing as my specializations. Another turning point came during my internship with Coinage Capital Advisors, a sub-broker of Motilal Oswal Financial Services. My supervisor told me a story about how financial literacy can not only make your life better but stop you from making mistakes as well. It is a message that has stayed with me and made me truly understand the value of Finance.
The internship was a stepping stone into the corporate world for me and gave me the opportunity to apply the theoretical concepts I had learned to real life scenarios. It came up during my placement interview and since I had given my best to the internship, I could give them honest and well thought out answers. But one tricky question they asked me was how I would handle three projects given my three different supervisors by the end of the day.
The placement process had lasted whole day and more than 60 students had appeared for it in this on-campus recruitment drive at Jaipuria. We got the results on the same evening and when I heard that I had been placed I was overjoyed. I owe my success to my family as they are the pillars of my strength, as much as my B School for preparing me for the corporate ride.
Recalling my two years at Jaipuria Institute of Management Jaipur, I was a member of social responsibility committee and had coordinated the debate at Abhyudaya 2019. I also participated in the Best out of Waste competition at the same event. At Jaipuria, Jaipur I have learnt that your reputation goes to any place before you do. So before I start working with Deloitte I am preparing myself by understanding more about US Taxation. I did well to bag this prestigious placement but there is always room for improvement.”
