“If you got an aim in mind, start from Day one to prepare for it,” says Jaya Singh from the 2014-16 batch of Jaipuria, Jaipur, currently working with Vodafone

Jaya has joined Vodafone India as an ET with a salary package of Rs. 4.3lacs p.a. She shares her Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur’s experience and how it has helped her reach where she is today.

B.Com and then PGDM. Was it an obvious choice?

Not really. For me it was a desire and an unquenched thirst for knowledge that made me consider PGDM in the first place. I come from the City of Nawabs, Lucknow where I did my B.Com (Hons.) from Lucknow University. Even before finishing my UG, I knew I had to learn more. It was this very desire to learn management skills and have a good stepping stone for my career brought me to closer to Jaipuria Institute of Management’s PGDM. I did my research around B-schools but something just clicked naturally with Jaipuria, Jaipur and I didn’t have to look back since then.

Was joining Jaipuria Institute of Management, a decision worth the dimes?

Every penny worth the dime spent.
I have seen a huge change in my abilities and personality. I am more confident now as a person. My presentation skill has improved immensely. My communication skill has gone better by leaps and bounds. Plus, when I see my batch mates from Lucknow University who did not pursue the PGDM or similar post-grad studies, they are struggling in jobs that do not help them better themselves.

These two years have given me many memorable experiences- including a wonderful trip to Manali with my batch mates, the celebrations after the placements, my 1st position in Kho-Kho, Cricket at National Level Sports Meet held at the Institute and the 1st position in Dance Competition in ABHYUDAYA Jaipuria, Jaipur, my internship with Genpact, to name a few. To top it all I made great friends.

How is working with Vodafone coming along?

At Vodafone, my key responsibilities include managing Distributors and DSEs, visiting the retailers and generally managing sales and distribution. I feel my 2 years of Management studies have prepared me well for these responsibilities.
