All set to start with Deloitte as a Tax Consultant- Pankaj of Jaipuria, Indore talks of his final placement and friendship.

“It is unbelievable the kind of friendship I experienced these two years of my PGDM in Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore,” says A. Pankaj Rao who was welcomed with beats of dhol by his friends when he got back to campus after cracking the placements with Deloitte. “When you are attending B-school miles away from home and got limited pocket money to spend, you understand the value of teamwork and friendship,” adds Pankaj nostalgically as he is all set to start his journey with the Fortune 500 Company in few days.
Pankaj was asked a very interesting situation question during his interview- “imagine a situation where you have been allotted multiple tasks by two of your superiors. Which would you choose and why?” The Jabalpur boy gave it few seconds and replied- “I would use my discretion to understand the priority and get the tasks wrapped accordingly.” The panel from Deloitte took heed. And with 6 other colleagues of Pankaj waiting their turn to be selected, Pankaj got the offer to become the next Tax Consultant of the company.

His job would primarily revolve around- filing tax returns for clients, developing healthy relationship with clients and communicating information within various departments and Pankaj feels quite ready to garb on his new role. “I have always been enamored by the adroitness of Mr. Vincent Thomas, our Training Associate at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore who dedicatedly helped us during the whole placement process. His communication skills and ability to multi-task are few skills I want to imbibe in myself,” exclaims Pankaj when asked about that one person who touched his life professionally in last 2 years of PGDM.
7th September, 2018 shall stay close to Pankaj’s heart. He was sitting in the auditorium waiting for the senior Management of Deloitte to declare the results. Something in Pankaj’s heart knew he has made it but he needed to hear it. And his name was announced. “The remaining is blur in my head. I remember hugging my elder brother tight and calling my mother home with tears of joy rolling down my eyes,” explains Pankaj.
With newer responsibilities awaiting him at Deloitte, what is the man going to miss the most about Jaipuria, Indore? “The people I met here and the friendship we forged,” were his parting remarks.

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow to Amazon- the story of Aritra Mukherjee, PGDM Class 2019

Aritra of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow was spending his summer 2018 at Vizag with Drona Maps. The organization does city-scale 3D mapping using UAVs, delivering centi-meter scale resolution across the board and Aritra’s internship familiarized him with drones and advanced technology. “During the Amazon interview, the experience came extremely handy,” exclaims the young man who is all set to join the leading e-commerce portal at a package of 16.05 lac p.a.
“No, seriously when I had joined Jaipuria Institute of Management, I had no idea my career would come this far. Like all other aspiring professionals, I secretly dreamt of starting big but I did not imagine it to start this well,” says Aritra while readying himself for a conversation with the Media Committee of the institute.
He was enjoying an ice-cream when the news of his selection with Amazon arrived. Of course he could not believe it at first even though he knew he had given his best in front of the interview panel- however, with a top organization like Amazon, it is always hard to predict. Adding to that, 80 students applied for placements with Amazon. “Plus, the personal interview rounds were tedious and never ending. I attended four rounds,” recalls Aritra who has been actively involved in debate and mock youth parliament sessions. “I always thought I speak well but what came to my real rescue was my ability to act and think like a manager,” adds the man who is now all set to handle a team under him at Amazon. He was asked- “why should Amazon not hire you? Why did you not go overseas to study MBA?” and his answers got him selected!
Jaipuria Institute of Management ensures that each student is trained to locate his/her ability and then convert it to strength. The PGDM curriculum of Jaipuria Institute of Management is dotted with rigorous case study modules, international immersion programmes, workshops, conclaves, industry interactions, summer internship opportunities and live projects. Alumnus Sravanti Ivaturi- excelling in PR and Communication with American Express

“The little kids of the Dakachaya village used to call me Basanti. Because of course they used to find pronouncing Sravanti- difficult,” exclaims alumnus Sravanti Ivaturi Mishra of Class 2013 nostalgically. Sravanti graduated from Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore and joined American Express in the same year. It is her 5th year and 5 months with the organization and she is an integral part of the Public Affairs and Communication team of the multinational financial services corporation. However, Sravanti does not really just see pay package and career accomplishments as the true achievements of her life. When asked about one her most memorable moments from B-school days, she pleasantly surprised us with her narrative.
Being a student of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore has its own perks. The state-of-the-art campus being located in the heart of the tiny village on the Indore- Dewas highway, students get to actively involve in CSR from a very early start of their management careers. Sravanti’s experience was nothing different. She had a lot of interactions with the villagers, their families and especially the young children who would arrive at the b-school campus every evening for attending evening classes from the didi and bhaiyyas of Jaipuria, Indore. Sravanti fondly recalls- “I would never forget that moment. In 2015 when I went for a visit on campus, one of the students came to me and thanked me for touching her life. It was absolutely beautiful and I think it was the biggest achievement of my b-school stint- getting to make an impact on someone else’s life.”

Today, Sravanti has been instrumental behind the success of various creative and marketing initiatives of American Express and her colleague endorses her as someone with- “full of positive and contagious energy. Someone who would bring cheer to the team even in a hopeless situation!” So what does it take to be a PR and communication professional in the 21st century- especially if associated with a MNC in the stature of American Express?
“It is not about one specific skill. You got to be jack of all trades- be it communication, leadership qualities or being a go-getter. You got to have a knack of creating new things, understanding how design works in modern day, building network and indulging in new collaborations,” suggests the alum.
Sravanti’s first tryst with the world of PR and advertising happened during her PGDM days at Jaipuria, Indore. She was coordinating with an external ad agency that was handling the communication of a campus event called- Chisel. “There, I learnt how ad agencies work and it sparked a lot of curiosity in me. I saw ideas getting transformed into beautiful designs. Words getting weaved to spin strong straplines, press releases and brand messages. I was overwhelmed,” remarks Sravanti.
“So, if you got Brand Communication in mind- put a lot of stress on written and speaking English,” adds the alum. Keep an eye on modern technology and understand your TG well. Know where they are, what they like to do, what they think and how they make decisions. It is then that you will be able to make your room in the otherwise crowded world of PR and Communication professionals.
And as a my goodbye message, Sravanti suggests- “respect your peers and your faculty. You will carry a little of them within you- no matter where and how far you go.”

Becoming the Territory Manager at FedEx Express – Jadumoni Das, PGDM 2015, Jaipuria Noida

“People. Service. Profit. We call that PSP in FedX and I think I sort of got that right,” says Jadumoni Das pulling away from the gravitas of the question pointed at him. He was in a light-hearted mood and why won’t he! He had just wrapped a long tedious day at work when we arrived at his office with a bunch of questions to ask.
Let us begin by introducing the man. Jadumoni’s native place is in Assam but he was only 18 when he left the beautiful land of eri and muga. He had BBA in mind and WBUT found his application perfect. 3 years in Kolkata, amidst BBA curriculum, internships, assignments and grades, Jadumoni did not forget the bigger picture. He wanted to do his MBA from a B-school that would put him in the map of big things! And, he made it just in time to Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida campus. It was 2013. Yet a lot was left to achieve. To begin with: a top-of-the-line industry placement.
“2 years of PGDM taught me a lot of things but the most important of what I learnt was- to not let go of opportunities,” suggests Jadumoni who started it at the executive level in FedEx and is now the Territory Manager at FedEx Express. He further adds, “just throwing my two penny here- what might often look very trivial and insignificant as an opportunity to you can just be the table turner of your life. The cultural fests, the conclaves, the internships, the golgappa stall at the startup fest, all of it are great deal important. You should and you must be an active participant in everything. These 730 days of your life that you will spend in Jaipuria will decide a lot for you and I vouch from my experience- there are opportunities awaiting you at every door you knock in this b-school.”
Jadumoni outshone other candidates who had sat for the FedEx interview in the year 2015. He had confidence to fall back on but his major enabler was his communication skills. “I carefully chose my specialization and I had picked Marketing & Operations simply because I wanted to settle in a company like FedEx. I honed my theoretical knowledge and complimented it with an internship with ITC” explains the alumnus. ITC was just launching its popular deodorant line- Engage and in the PGDM summer break, Jadumoni took off to Dehradun.
At ITC, he was assigned the task of identifying the loopholes in the distribution channel of the Dehradun region. He also had to figure out the problem set of retailers, maintain the daily sales report (DSR). He covered more then 300 new retailers in Dehradun region within a span of 20 days. “A spirit we are trained to nurture from the beginning at Jaipuria,” adds Jadumoni. At his interview with FedEx, this sheer passion and commitment to work shone out loud! The logistics company immediately hired him.
As a goodbye question, we asked this jocund man- what does he miss the most about Jaipuria life? “My friend Jagpreet Singh and the cricket ground which was very close to the girls’ hostel,” remarks Jadumoni while waving at us.

Effects of social media on the students of Fiji National University- Research done by Jaipuria Institute

What’s your status? Investigating the effects of social media on the students of Fiji National University- A compelling research work developed by Jaipuria Institute of Management’s Prof. Akash Dubey

Dr. (Prof.) Akash Dubey of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur just wrapped working on a fascinating research paper- “What’s your status? Investigating the effects of social media on the students of Fiji National University” alongside co-authors based out of Fiji. His research work has been published in the journal Education and Information Technologies, Springer Publications but Prof. Dubey’s itch to probe for more has not ceased. “I want to revisit my research in more of one-on-one basis with students. I want it to be even more qualitative,” says the teacher of Information Technology even after being accepted by one of the leading publications across the globe.
This IIT (BHU), Varanasi educated professor’s first research work during his Ph.D. was once rejected by his guides and mentors. “It still stings,” says Prof. Dubey laughingly. “I waited for 10 months. There were rounds and rounds of feedback but now that I look back, it did wonders to me. Rejections are important. I received extensive feedbacks. It gave me an idea about the art of writing research papers and getting them published,” adds Prof. Dubey happily. Today, he has been published by some of the leading international journals of computer applications.
While lots of studies talk of the negative effects of social media on the younger generation, Prof. Dubey wanted to explore the other side to it. His research work primarily concentrated on the students of the Fiji National University and scrutinized the effects of social media and networking sites on their behavior as well as their education. As part of this study, Prof. Dubey along with his co-authors reached out to students personally as well as analysed behaviors of participants through extensive questionnaires.
The conclusion of the study indicates- the students in Fiji have been affected both in positive as well as in negative manners by social media and social networking sites. The study also suggested certain interventions that can be done to scale down the negative impacts on the students and help them in improving their performance in their colleges.
“I strictly believe that with changing times, you cannot stick to the same old pedagogies in education. While people do talk about how Facebook, youtube, Twitter, and other social media sites have changed their kids drastically, I wanted to see what good it has/ can do in the society. This research has enabled me to see education and pedagogies in an entirely different manner,” states Prof. Dubey.
At Jaipuria Institute of Management, PGDM program is an experience that is considered half-complete unless students have considerable knowledge of research in their kitty. While students are made to write final dissertations before they graduate, their classroom sessions are often backed by research assignments to make them realize the importance of probing deep and finding multiple solutions to the same problem.
Prof. Dubey takes classes, designs his curriculum, grades students, is the Chairperson, Placement, SIP & Corporate Relations of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur and alongside- a passionate Researcher. He sets a new benchmark for his research work, every single time. “For my research, I decide the months I am going to dedicate for the research. I challenge myself to publish papers in better journals each time and it has helped me in more ways than one,” concludes Prof. Dubey who wants to now take out time to research and write around the sixth sense technology invented by Pranav Mistry, Senior VP-Research of Samsung.

"You do not need to be a B.Tech. to make friends with Technology,” says alumna Deepti Mehra, General Manager Marketing at Digispice Technologies Ltd.

Deepti Mehra graduated from Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow in the year 2005 with specializations in Marketing and Finance. And little did Deepti know during those days- what destiny had in store for her. “I was one of the most notorious students from Class 2005, really” says Deepti with an air of candour around her. “In fact, a lot of my professors still remembers me that way,” adds the alumna who was heading one of the most critical offices of the 100 crores revenue-generating consumer electronics company- Micromax & now working as General Manager Marketing at Digispice Technologies Ltd.
When Deepti was graduating as an MBA from Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, the world of advertisement had not really shifted to digital. The online revolution was approaching- but at a slow and steady pace. There were a lot of things that had to be tried, understood and tested “and I trained myself personally. There were no electives around Digital Marketing those days in MBA schools. Yes, we had very amazing professors in Marketing but the space was still dominated by newspaper, television and radio primarily, states Deepti as she begins to explain how her typical day at work as a looks like.
“It is a false notion that you need to be an engineer to understand technology. If you have to do justice to any new technology and as a matter of fact, any brand absolutely- you simply need to have the power of imagination in you; a foresight or empathy towards your consumer. And that’s exactly what we followed at Micromax when we sat down to create a product or strategise its marketing plan,” explains the girl who had once been the heart beat behind various successful events hosted by Jaipuria, Lucknow during her MBA days.
So how does a campaign really see the light of the day? “Well a lot goes behind the fabulous ads or the heard-hitting copies that you see across the country and overseas when top brands are concerned,” answers Deepti while pulling out some great advice for student aiming to gun high in the world of advertisements and PR. “Keep the pulse of the market in mind when you think of the kind of communication you want for the product at hand. For instance, if you are launching a new mobile, try to understand what might excite your customer about the new phone- is it the screen? Is it the ROM? Or the RAM? Or the battery life of the phone? And then- get into drawing the campaign. As to what you want to say to add to the excitement.” However, the task does not end there. “You have to then figure out the platforms or catchment areas. In case of digital marketing- the channels are varied. Facebook, Twitter, LinkediIN, Youtube, Snapchat, Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, so on and so forth. You need to choose your platforms properly because your RoI depends massively on this part of your campaign. And this the number driven part and needs a lot of pre-calculated metrics. However, things become easier as you keep gathering experience,” concludes the Deepti Mehra, General Manager Marketing at Digispice Technologies Ltd.

Green ticks, green ticks and green ticks on the career bucket list. Bhavana Tandon and her journey post Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida

Bhavana Tandon was graduating from Jaipuria Institute of Management in the year 2014 and in her graduation ceremony, she had stated one thing clearly to her friend and family- “I see myself at par and competing with IIM graduates henceforth.” It has only been 4 years since then and Bhavana’s career has been witnessing meteoric rise. The young girl has taken three distinct moves in 48 months, each being better from the other.
Baffled by her speed to success- we recently interviewed Bhavana over a cup of coffee, cookies and heartfelt laughter at her home. Bhavana looked immensely relaxed, happy and contented but the fire in her eye- had gotten us amazed. For a girl in her mid twenties, Bhavana is clear and cut-to-the-point about her career goals. In fact, she has always been clear since she remembers. Prior to starting her PGDM journey with Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, Bhavana was already “The Best All-Round Student” of Daulat Ram College, Delhi University.
Within the span of two years of her PGDM itself, she rose to the position of the student VP of the Finance Club, Core Leader of the HR club, published various papers and articles around Finance, stood as the runner up of the “Six Feet Under”, attended the national Workshop on the Global Economy organized by the B-school, completed a compelling summer project with Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd., emerged with the highest CGPA in her Finance specialization, so on and so forth. For a girl like her- a little training and some good mentorship was enough to do the charm. And so it did!
She walked out of the Jaipuria Noida campus with a placement offer from L&T Finance. She joined the company as a Management Trainee in the Mumbai office and within 8 months was made a Business Credit Analyst and shifted to the city of her choice- Delhi. Where others take a year or two conveniently to make the rise, Bhavana had it in 8 months. “After having the taste of both Branch & HO, I could finally move into the Small & Medium Enterprises Department of L&T Finance Ltd. at the Regional Office, Delhi and that had me immensely excited. The SME sector had me hooked to it since a very long time,” says Bhavana passionately. Two years passed in a whizz with L&T and she decided to shift her base to a more handsomely paying and gratifying opportunity.
In March, 2016 when Bhavana was contacted by Hero Fin Corp, her life had a big change ahead of her. They gave Bhavana the opportunity to join them as an Associate Credit Analyst where she had to sanction the Credit Facilities to SMEs which included clients within and outside the ecosystem. Not just that- she had to head a team. “When I reached Hero Fin Corp, I realized I have to pull my Jaipuria classroom lessons back from my memory to withstand the challenge ahead of me,” she adds. For the first time in her professional life, she had to head a team and she was nervous, but “I had a very good management education backing me there- my professors had taught me to be a sustainable leader whereas others were taught to merely lead.”
Currently Bhavana made another big jump to Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd. and is the Area Credit Senior Manager. She deals with big ticket size loans ranging from Rs. 7.5 Crs to Rs. 15 Crs (Mortgages-LAP and Housing Segment) for North Region and as she hands us over the news, she remarks- “my career has been so far, so good.”
