The Founding class graduate- Anshumal Dikshit. His 20 years. 5 industries. 1 dream project.

When you meet the 1997 PGDM alumni Mr. Anshumal Dikshit, it takes very little time to realize the secret behind all that success- the man is a perfect balance of grace and wisdom. Anshumal Dikshit has spent 20 years in the industry and interestingly, across five major sectors. He has tasted the waters of Manufacturing, Media, Banking, IT and Hospitality before he embarked on building his own successful venture as a veteran HR consultant. Today, Anshumal Dikshit runs one of the leading HR consulting agencies of North India- the HR Mantra Consulting and heads the office as its Principal Consultant.
1997 had seen Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow churn out its founding class- a group full of young, dynamic and ambitious professionals who are now creating wonders across the world. The young Lucknow boy Anshumal had stepped out of the campus with a placement offer from Sona Koyo Steering Systems Limited. Having spent couple of years in the Auto component manufacturing industry, he entered the eFunds world with HR Lead and soon shifted to Banking with Citi Group. Where others saw stumbling blocks, Anshumal Dikshit saw steppingstones. He spent considerable tenures across industries, bagging promotions, taking significant hikes, changing profiles to profiles and all that while, he went on learning and gathering valuable experience throughout his journey.

In 2007 Anshumal had an offer from the Oberoi Group. A big task where he had to head the 80 years old group’s Corporate Learning and OD function. “I enjoyed the years immensely there. It was a new sector for me and there was learning at every bend and turn of the road,” remarks Anshumal as he looks back at the years traversed. And then another short stint with Videocon as its Head HR in the Manufacturing unit and then finally Patni Computer Systems happened.
The man who has jumped from one industry to another with an insatiable hunger to learn and experiment new things finally took a pause at Patni for five years. His work earned him great many accolades and praises alongside colleagues’ infinite encouraging words. Atul Kulshreshtha, Vice President Business Services at Capgemini himself says- “I have been twice lucky to have Anshumal as my HR Leader once at IGATE/PATNI and earlier at eFunds/FIS.” Needless to say, experience backed with an endless drive to learn has no substitution, whatsoever.
And just when you will think Anshumal Dikshit has arrived in life, he would surprise you with more stunts in his portfolio. He left Patni, and joined Arvato, headquartered in Gutersloh, Germany. In his words- “As a Country Head for HR, Arvato was a unique opportunity that provided me a strategic direction to the enterprise and it helped me create capability for the next league.” And finally, with all the experience under his belt- he ventured out.
In 2016, Anshumal Dikshit laid down his 20 years plan- HR Mantra Consulting, the vague dream that he had once dreamt inside the classroom of Jaipuria Institute of Management. “I had chosen my specialization with a lot of clarity in my mind but then, to dream is one thing and to execute the dreams- another,” says the charming, handsome and successful alumni of Class 1997. Bottom line- “You got to know when you are ready. Everyone wants to start up today but Experience, you need it even today. The rules are still the same, yes, the games have definitely changed,” concludes Anshumal Dikshit with a broad smile on his face.

Eduroomz – A Story of Startup by 5 Jaipurians

Among the myriad tales of start-ups in India is a tale worth telling. This is a story of innovation, dream, tenacity and above all, of relentless motivation. This is the tale of Eduroomz.

“The greatest achievement was, at first, and for a time, but a dream.”
Napoleon Hill (from Think and grow rich)

Eduroomz was the dreamchild of Akshay, one of the 5 Jaipurians from the Lucknow campus who introduced the novel concept of providing classrooms to teachers. The journey of Eduroomz started as Akshay ramped up his team and implemented his idea on small- scale. While Akshay’s dream Start-up was just budding, Jaipuria’s MiDCOM BUSINESS CHALLENGE came as a boon to his team as they were given an opportunity to present their business plan. How could their dreams fail them? They won the title and were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs!

“If you have zeal to succeed, you have all you need to succeed”- is what Eduroomz believe in. Eduroomz provide rooms on rent to teachers who wish to impart knowledge but lack space to make their visions a reality. So if you are a teacher and have students with the desire to teach, Eduroomz has a room for you! The best part is the nominal cost, which is as low as Rs. 49 per hour. As a token to contribute to the society and not hinder the stream of knowledge from flowing, even in absence of monetary benefits Eduroomz is determined to provide rooms of knowledge to the weaker sections of society. So if you see an air conditioned classroom at Rs. 49 per hour (irrespective of the strength of the class), flexibility in terms of timings and independent work space to teachers, you are looking at an Eduroomz!

The Eduroomz team comprises of 5 members. Since it’s a startup by students, role switching is common and in a way this strengthens the team to explore all operational perspectives.

Right from the very beginning, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow has provided an uninterrupted support to Eduroomz. Because the expert team could recognise potential in budding enterpreneurs, be it providing various platforms to showcase a plan, mentorship and guidance, or networking, Jaipuria has been a pillar of support to Eduroomz. Jaipuria has also been working upon the team’s request to incorporate an incubation centre collaborated with the U.P. government.

It’s not that there have not been obstacles in the journey of Eduroomz. When it comes to education, ideas and results often do not coincide. Eduroomz has endured the obstacles and has built up a robust client network. Eduroomz is Lucknow’s well- knit network with well-equipped classrooms, conference halls, computer labs and study lounges. Eduroomz own 50+ properties with more than five thousand teaching slots in a month, where the priority is to provide teaching by experts at affordable prices.

Eduroomz is still experimenting to include other services, planning to expand its horizons over the next decade and create a niche where online teaching is taking over offline classrooms.

The most unanimous message that these young entrepreneurs wish to convey to those who aspire to have a start- up of their own someday is to be assured that no matter how meticulously they plan, their plans will fail, but the key is to plot a new scheme every time the old one is reduced to ashes. They also suggest stepping out and analysing the needs of target customers instead of planning in isolation because the key to a successful start- up is knowing the demands of target population and targeting them. Jaipuria is glad it could provide aid to these young minds and is committed to their success throughout their journey.

The 2018 orientation program at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore prepares new management recruits for the rigor and the joyride for the next two years

The two-year journey for new management recruits of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore began with an action packed Orientation program from 1st of July. Over the course of six days, students were put through a number of activities and had an opportunity to learn from industry experts, which set the tone for what to expect during their PGDM program. Dr. Harshavardhan Halve, Director of the institute had also organized an orientation for parents, who are equal stakeholders in the growth and success of future managers of the B School.
Mr. Soham Shukla, COO – Fincare was the Chief Guest for the inauguration ceremony, which had a traditional touch to it. Dr. Harshavardhan Halve then took to the stage and inspired the students to keep giving their best over the course of two years. He also highlighted the importance of leadership qualities for management aspirants. Mr. Soham Shukla then revealed the dos and don’ts for management students before saying, “The pursuit of excellence is – to be better than being bigger.” Talks by faculty members made students aware of the learning process at the B School and served up a healthy dose of inspiration to start the proceedings.

What made the Orientation Program exciting and engaging was the fact that it involved a number of management games and activities that held students’ interest. For example, the Yoga sessions challenged their bodies and minds to great effect. It was followed by the challenge of Business Orientation Projects, where students were divided into different teams and had to make presentations on given themes. It was the perfect way to get acquainted with the art of presentations, which will be an integral part of their learning process. The activity also had faculty members mentoring teams; another aspect of learning at the institute.

Jaipuria’s Got Talent showcased some of the best talents amongst the fresh recruits, who were then chosen for the final rounds. In a bid to offer students industry exposure right from the onset, the orientation program had Mr. Chetan Bajpai, COO, Sintex Infrastructure and Prefab Ltd sharing his experiences. He reminded the gathering, “Management does not teach you what is right or wrong. It teaches you how to make decisions when resources are scarce. There are three R’s for every work – Requirement, Resource and Risk.” Alum Ms. Ajitha Joshi, Director’s Gold Medal winner Batch 2017 talked about being in their shoes and what to expect in next two years.
Future managers need to be well groomed personalities to make the best impression in the corporate world. The session on grooming and presentation smartly made that point with the students. First formal mentor-mentee interaction was an ice breaking session, which culminated in all the groups taking their first group selfie. Alum Ms. Namita Chaturvedi, Branch Manager, Writers Corporation, Indore and Mr. Alok Mishra, Chief Operating Officer – Polycab Wires Pvt. Ltd. offered new students insights into the industry, talked to them about the role of managers of tomorrow and what’s expected of them as they enter the corporate world.

From 50 rupees game to Martial Arts and interaction with seniors from the B School, the orientation program had a fun and invigorating surprise every step of the way. Sessions with life coach Mr. Achal N Rangaswamy and Mrs. Neha Mulchandani, Counseling Psychologist were interactive and went a long way in preparing students for the change that’s to come into their lives. Meanwhile, the Business Orientation Project Presentation Competition had reached the next step as 17 presentations were chosen for the final round. If they are anything to go by, then the institute definitely has drawn some exciting talent in the batch this year.

In days to come though they will have to ‘Raise the Bar’, which was the theme of the talk by Mr. Mahipal Nair, Chief Human Resource Officer, Neilson – South Asia. He reminded the gathering, “Success is all about Skillset and Mindset, and that’s how one reaches their target. Chasing excellence is important, success will follow.” Amrita Ludhwani, Srishti Soni, Sheersha Bais and Haritima Amravat, already displayed their skillset as they bagged lucrative top three prizes in the Presentation contest. Along with winners of different categories of Jaipuria’s Got Talent, they were presented their awards by Dr. Harshavardhan Halve. The DJ Night was the fitting finale to the Orientation program that paved the way for new friendships and of course, flourishing careers of tomorrow.

Simulation games. Case studies. Presentations. Discussions. Debates. 8 phenomenal classes on Supply Chain Logistics by Prof. Chajjed at Jaipuria, Indore

“All you need to do is divide in teams and craft paper boats to begin with”, said Prof. Dilip Chajjed to kickstart the 8 sessions’ module on Supply Chain Management at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore. Prof. Chajjed teaches in University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and is the Executive Director of MS Programs at Department of Business Administration at UIUC. His one-week visit to Jaipuria, Indore had the PGDM students of Supply Chain Management undergo an interesting and intense learning experience.

The first day of the module saw Prof. Chajjed make students understand distribution processes and its challenges through paper boats and a case study on a German retailing division called Aldi. Students got in-depth understanding of value chain, product selection, product pricing and promotion, product quality, store operations, supply chain operations, purchasing, the back-office operations, international operations and competitors of Aldi.

The second day witnessed a simulation competition among the students wherein they had to play a Beer game. In a team of four, students were designated as producers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers so as to help them understand how intermediaries work for their own benefit and thus resulting in inefficient supply chain operations. It was followed by yet another exercise- a cupcake game. Students learnt the concept of overstocking and under stocking by the end of the session. In the words of Suyash Bhalerao, PGDM Class of 2019- “supply chain as a domain is intellectually stimulating however, the module made it even better for each one of us.”

Third day of the module was the day of discussing Zara from Harvard Business Review. “Empty racks at Zara don’t drive customers to other stores. Being out of stock in one item helps sell another,” remarks Prof. Chajjed while explaining the concept of bullwhip effect through which distribution channel forecasts supply channel inefficiencies to increase the response. The day ended with a discussion on ‘News Vendor Model’, which emphasized on deciding optimal order size and its tradeoffs.

The final day had two case studies- ‘Logistics of Mass Gathering: Kumbh Mela – Ujjain, India – 2016’ and ‘Halloran Metals,’ in store for students. While ‘Logistics of Mass Gathering: Kumbh Mela – Ujjain, India – 2016’, helped students understand the dynamics behind managing the fair efficiently it also helped them analyse it from projecting the percentage flow of pilgrims by an hour of the day, temporary facilities and transportation. They grasped the dimensions of demand and planning– the six entry points and temporal – a time of the day as concepts. Capacity planning, adaptive rerouting and moving queue models were also discussed. Later in the session, flexibility planning and case of ‘Halloran Metals’ was discussed. How Halloran Metals has been able to make profits in the steel industry of US was discussed with regards to various aspects like order winners, competition, marketing strategy, organizational structure and costs.

The 8 classes with Prof. Dilip Chajjed had Jaiuria Institute of management, indore’s students crack various mysteries behind logistics management and learnt from the popular turns and events of the 21st century.

Making the most of the IMRB summer internship to make it to Redquanta in final placements, Eva of Jaipuria, Lucknow talks about her PGDM journey

When Eva returned from her Summer Internship with IMRB, she had a feeling of- “I think I learnt and performed as much as I could,” but little did Eva know then that her internship will help her convert a full time placements with Redquanta. Located in 517, Palm Springs Centre, Malad, Mumbai, Redquanta is a research, analytics, and consulting firm working with some of the premium companies of the country and the globe. They arrived at the Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow campus in the month of February, 2018 and after a rigorous selection process picked Eva as one of their Project Managers. They found Eva’s SIP experience with IMRB extraordinarily in sync to the work that a Project Manager is expected to conduct at their company.

A typical day for Eva at the office sees her engrossed in client engagement and client retention activities. Other than that, she works around building questionnaires, audit guideline creation, to name a few. “These things, I had learnt at my SIP and had handled them in a more macro level,” exclaims the young girl enthusiastically. “You should never take your internship opportunity for granted- especially if you are a management student. The amount an internship makes you learn is unbelievably outstanding,” she adds. “IMRB is a giant in the field of market research, so getting the opportunity to work with them helped me learn a lot of things that are helpful now at Redquanta for me.”

It has been two and a half months for the Lucknow girl at her new office but like many of her friends, she misses her Jaipuria days. “We learnt a lot in the two years of our PGDM. While Class presentations helped us see through cases and instances with analytical skills, we networked with the industry professionals and alumni extensively. And your PGDM experience does not limit you to just education. You realize the power of deadlines, attendance and good habits when you are continuously under the grind,” says Eva who is now officially an alumni of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow.

From the out-start of her PGDM journey, she knew what she wanted from it- “I knew which domain interested me the most and am glad to see where I am today.” And why wouldn’t a girl with a precise vision like her won’t succeed anyway! After all, she was paving the path towards this since the beginning. “I was active in various clubs and committees of the B-school. The closest to my heart being – Media Relations Club where I was the Student Point of Contact for an entire year. I had a lot of responsibilities on me throughout the association. I absolutely leveraged all the opportunities to learn while heading the office of the committee.” While Eva could have simply selected to focus on academics and let the rest, take back seat, she chose to balance academic and extracurricular hand in hand. Result? A “happy ending” of PGDM!

A placement with Mahindra Finance and the two years PGDM with Jaipuria Jaipur explained!

Yashika Damani received a whatsapp from the Placement Committee of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur informing- “you have been selected by Mahindra Finance.” And her joy knew no bounds. The moment shall forever be etched in her heart.

Having spent two years pursuing PGDM and prepping up for the final placement, Yashika was actively participating in her classroom sessions alongside plethora of club activities. From being the core co-ordinator of all the events at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur to being the emcee for various Conclaves and valedictory events, this Jaipur girl worked towards her final placement day with confidence, poise and an unwavering determination to succeed. The outcome? A placement as the MT- Operations with Mahindra Finance!

“A lot of things contributed in my bagging the offer,” explains Yashika when asked- what she thinks helped her primarily in convincing the Mahindra Finance interviewers that she is the appropriate fit for the task! “My Summer internship project saw me through. I completed my SIP from HDB Financial Services Ltd., Jaipur. The project was about the evaluation of factors which impact rejection of loan application in PL Salaried class. Through and through, my employers went on asking me questions around it. And I knew what I was talking about,” said Yashika with a smile.

She owes a lot to her mother. “I am the first one in my entire family to go for service. And had it not been for my mother’s encouragement, it would all have been half-traversed,” mentions Yashika. She came to Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur with four primary objectives-

  • To build a personal brand in herself
  • To build a network of influencing connections
  • To learn how to communicate well
  • To present herself in front of a large audience- without fear
