Jaipuria Institute of Management’s alumni are extraordinary in ways. Our alums’ contribution to the b-school is unarguably remarkable, helping the entire community of Jaipurians move the world forward- one at a time. Located across various parts of the country and the globe, our alumni help juniors make the best of their PGDM- sometimes through webinar sessions around multiple topics, through frequent mentoring, through guest lectures on campus, counseling them rigoruously before pre-placement season and what not!
Apart from being ambassadors, they have built formidable reputation for themselves as source of inspiration for their juniors. Jaipuria Institute of Management’s alumni take out valuable time from their busy schedules and fly down to the campus (that was once home for them!) to provide their guidance. Often, the guest lectures are conducted by students from the most recent graduating batch. This is beneficial for the students, most specifically because these alumni can provide the latest insights into the job market and placement preparation having been through the process themselves most recently.
Three recent interactions between the current batch and alumni from the Batch of 2015-17 illustrate the value of almuni mentoring at Jaipuria Institute of Management:
Bennett Elias, Assistant Manager, Mahindra Finance | 14 August
Dr. Lokesh Vijayvargy, Dean- Student’s Affairs welcomed Bennett who provided valuable insights into Mahindra Finance. He also educated the students that skills like communication, situational handling and attitude play an important role during placements.
His practical tips on reading newspapers regularly, forming peer groups to focus on industries, and to polish GD/PI skills with help of these peer groups were particularly useful. Bennett also guided the students to zero down the company on the basis of Job Profile, package, location, and growth.
Akshat Jhalani and Aarushi Jain, US Tax Consultants, Deloitte Hyderabad | 5 August
Akshat and Aarushi specialized in Finance and Marketing respectively and were first among students who got placed in Deloitte, besides receiving the highest package of their batch.
Since Deloitte is a favoured recruiter, students were particularly interested in the insights that this session promised. The alumni spoke about building focus at an early stage and how students can be successful by concentrating on skills and knowledge.
Specifically, the alumni covered aptitude tests, skill requirement, interview preparation and emphasized extensive participation in events. They also stated the paramount importance of LSRW and being able to talk through the SIP experience for placement interviews.
Pragnesh Mehrunkar, Client Success Manager (Media Planning) Kenscio Digital Marketing Pvt. Ltd.
The popularity of Digital Marketing made this particular session particularly interesting for the students. Pragnesh spoke about his responsibilities in this exciting field and walked students through aspects of client pitching, proposal preparation, negotiation tactics, and client service. He spoke about how undergraduate specializations do not matter in this field and how important it is to build domain expertise in Digital Marketing for success. He also discussed the current trends such as banner ads, jacket ads, video ads, email marketing, and dynamic emails.

‘A detailed study on the availability and reach of the channels of Discovery Communications India in South and West India’ was the theme of Nimisha’s project. Nimisha had to track the non-availability of the channels in designated weeks and get them functional by talking to the FPRs. “I would start the day by reading news from media industry and carry out data analysis, interpretations, and connect with FPRs to trace any discrepancies. I also did an analysis on chrome data of non-availability of channels and competitor comparison,” she talks about the tasks that brought valuable experience.
Nimisha is a Jaipurian after all! Given that it was her first close brush with the corporate world, especially in the media industry, there were bound to be challenges. Getting feedback from the FPRs was one of the biggest challenges, and required perseverance from her in the form of regular emails, calls and text messages. “But throughout my internship I was there with the belief that I was learning something new through these challenges. I was prepared to work for long hours, do more than what was required and go that extra mile to deliver on my responsibilities,” she adds.
Sonam recounts the time she enrolled for the program late in the first semester. Soon after, she was taken ill with chikungunya, which hampered her progress. But with the support of her faculty members and friends she managed to keep pace with her studies and came through the internship process with flying colors. “The experience taught me never to give up hope and I took that attitude to my internship. Internships help you get true insight of the corporate world and build your own network. That’s why I was always proactive, communicating and networking, which helped me get the best out of my internship,” she reveals.
Sonam’s internship brought her a stipend of Rs. 50,000 but it also demanded every bit of her effort and dedication. Her project was on Tax compliance for C – Corporation and as a part of business tax services central she was a part of Houston team, as they are divided geographically. “I was assigned to prepare the book return for the U.S Clients and compute their taxable income. I learned about Tax software and how to calculate taxable income. About the work environment I would say that they have an open door policy. All the professionals are so amiable and I learned how to connect with right people and build a network,” she narrates.
Smriti was beating the blues of peak summer while at Opple. She was visiting retailers and sellers to understand the edge of Opple Lighting over its competitors. The Delhi sun of May or June has never been kind to anyone and amidst all the dust and heat; Smriti was pulling a 9am to 7pm schedule, everyday. Not to forget, the anemometer was reading 40 degrees Celsius.
Smriti is of the opinion that B Schools can only play their part in preparing you for internships; beyond that you need to take the initiative to gain optimally from the experience. Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida had already done everything possible to bring industry exposure to the campus through guest lectures, seminars, workshops and facilitate the internship. It was up to her to get the most out of the internship experience she had. “To do well in your internship you need to have the right attitude to learn. You have to be humble and cheerful to work in a stress free environment. If you can manage that, the internship can be a big step towards successful professional career for you,” she says.

Students of Jaipuria Institute of Management are no strangers to practical exposure. They study in an environment where they closely interact with corporate professionals and are put through activities that help them hit the ground running from day one at the B-school. Leela Swarup Mullapudi, student of PGDM Class 2018 remarks- “I felt confident going into the internship and had the right mindset for it. I performed to the best of my abilities and have come away with many crucial learning experiences for my future career.” Here’s Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida’s Leela’s story.
Leela asserts that to work with a renowned name like Accenture, you have to be flexible and versatile when it comes to responsibilities of the role. From ensuring sound progress of scheduled activities to collecting daily snags for maintenance, he had to handle different tasks every day during his internship. “I was also managing the inventory and client visits. I was inspecting quality of operations and in charge of organizing training programs for third parties. I was thrilled to have such dynamic professional experience at this stage in my life,” he enthuses.

Reema Sharma, student of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur had a more than stunner of a Summer Internship. There are some things that classroom theories cannot complete. That’s where relevant SIPs step in. Reema did her summer stint with GSK Consumer Healthcare Ltd. “Three things you can never learn through concepts are surviving in the unpredictable market, listening to complaints and finding solutions, and managing all levels of people associated with you,” she says wizened after her internship experience.
Did the internship bring any value addition to Reema?

It is one thing to survive in the professional world and another thing to do it with Success. Konica was well prepared for her internship. Her project on “Commercial Credit Appraisal” was with the BFS vertical of the organization. It involved preparing annual reviews for SME customers to give them ratings considered by banks when assessing risk factor. “Every day was a new learning experience, interacting with new professionals and handling new tasks. I learned to adapt myself to the corporate culture and tried to become one of the professionals with the organization and not only an intern,” she says.
