Jaipuria, Indore hosts its Induction Program and welcomes new students in style

Between the 1st and 12th of July, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore hosted its two-week Induction Program to welcome students of the batch 2015-17. This year, again, the renowned institute has a diverse batch of students from all over the country and it put on an extravaganza with diverse activities to welcome them into the fold.

The main objective of the program, held on the institute’s lush campus, was to familiarize the fresh students with the Jaipuria way of life and start off their academic journeys on the right note. Right at the onset, the students were acquainted with the campus, which is going to be their home for the next two years. Talks from experienced faculty members like Dr. Romi Sainy, Prof. Kalyani Parmal, and Prof. Nitin Merh helped them to understand the importance of foundation courses like Management, Finance, Economics and Communication.

The holistic learning experience that the institute creates is a result of the Life Management sessions that were included in the program.

From discussions on yoga and meditation, which students can do as things get hectic during their PGDM, to academic sessions with faculty members, the program ensured that it was creating the best platform for its new students.

Mr. Idrak Hashmat, a theatre artist from Mumbai, held a four-hour long workshop, which was fun and engaging at the same time. The music workshop and the Art of Living seminar were further highlights of the personality development aspect of the program.

A session on CSR responsibilities was also held to make students aware that as future managers they will have to make contributions towards Indian society, as well. Dr. Harshavardhan Halve, Director, Jaipuria, Indore then hosted the orientation for parents, who were impressed by the amenities offered by the institute, which gave them comfort that their children were in safe hands. Alumni Speak Jaipuria Lucknow

Founding Batch alumni, Anand Narian Kapoor, Founder & Vice Chairman MiDCOM on a nostalgic visit to campus shares his phenomenal career journey with students.

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow was recently a proud host to one of its most successful alumni – Mr. Anand Kapoor, Founder & Group Vice-Chairman, MiDCOM Group is the leading telecommunication distributor in Middle-East & Africa and a prominent distributor of consumer electronics in West Africa.

Anand was named as one of the top 100 Indian leaders in UAE by Forbes Middle East in 2013 and 2014. He has earned a lot of respect for himself in the professional world owing to his amazing story of making, losing and then regaining his wealth all in a short span of thirty months. Maverick, a man of exemplary courage and an innovator, those are few adjectives used to describe Anand by his peer group. He is not only a successful entrepreneur but also an investor and philanthropist. On his homecoming, MRC grabbed the opportunity to interview him and capture his amazing journey of innovation, perseverance, and strength that has brought him immense success in the world of business.

MRC: How does it feel to be back to your alma mater and being felicitated for your success?

Mr Anand Kapoor: It’s a great feeling! It’s a feeling of pride. It’s one of the most precious moments of my life. I think it is every business student’s dream to be recognized by the institute that made our foundations. It’s also a time for nostalgia. We were the first batch of our institute. I have so many memories and they are all rushing back today.

MRC: Tell us about your journey at Jaipuria?

Mr Anand Kapoor: I have a lot to thank Jaipuria for, the foremost being grooming my personality. I also believe that the diversity that the institute offers creates an environment that encourages development. I was fortunate to be the head of the class. So managing the environment, the team was the first learning, the beginning because there were diverse people with diverse interests, diverse opinions.

MRC: What are your suggestions about the curriculum at Jaipuria?

Mr Anand Kapoor: The academic content is being transformed keeping up with the change in the environment we’re working in. For example we can see the evolution of online world, e-commerce and the social behaviour of consumers in the last 5 years. Digitalization is the trend so businesses have to decide and converse with people in a very different way. I believe the marketing, financial and consumer behaviour – all environments around us are changing. Decision makers are looking at how fast these changes can be implemented.

MRC: You’ve created a huge conglomerate from bits and pieces. What motivated you and what were the challenges?

Mr Anand Kapoor: From the day I began the business and until now, I personally believe the challenges were not problems they were a part of life. The way you live the day, those are not problems – this is the nature of the life that you’ve chosen. And what kept me alive for the last 20 years is the fact that I never chased money. So I was never short of money because I never lost something that I was anyway not chasing!

However, time and again we were into deep financial troubles and I was thankful that Aakash, Jaipuria alumni also Group Manager at MiDCOM was always besides me. During this journey we saw many downturns but we never lost money because we were not chasing it. We were very positive and it has come back. All opportunities were created out of the crisis that we faced. First time, the bank that I used to work, closed down with all my money inside it. I tried to bid for that bank, to take the bank forward at the age of 25. So with every crisis, we tried to create an opportunity but we were never chasing money.

We wanted an organisation that would eventually become an organisation of people, which will add a lot of value to the employees and the society so that you can cherish at the end of your journey whenever you leave this world.

MRC: Share some memories from Jaipuria.

Mr Anand Kapoor: I remember our Faculty Mr.Goswami. His was the first presentation of Jaipuria’s I gave. I had the courage to stand up and face the grilling he did! I was stressed for 30 to 40 minutes. He ensured that he pushed me to the corner. I used to believe that I was the smartest person but here I was facing so many questions I had no idea how to answer! That humbled me and that is when I learnt the diversity of business. I think he played a vital role in my life and growth as a professional.

MRC: What is your message to management aspirants applying for PGDM at Jaipuria ?

Mr Anand Kapoor: Be as crazy as I was. And dream as wild as you can. Put those dreams into a plan, execute that plan with a process and with perseverance to see the results.

On the 14th of April, as a part of a study tour, 20 students were able to get hands-on experience through a tour of the different libraries on campus. But, after all, it was a learning tour for the students of the Library & Information Science program, and they had plenty to look forward to in the sprawling setup of Jaipuria, Jaipur. To begin with, students were given an orientation on technical classifications in library, which was immensely helpful to them. They were also offered insight into cataloguing and circulation operations, which are the integral elements of library functions.

The fact that Jaipuria, Jaipur has a new age, fully equipped library gave visitors a unique earning experience, because they learned more about automation and digitization processes at work in new, state of the art libraries. Students and visitors on the tour were introduced to the proprietary software and open source software available through the library. Importantly, the visiting students were also briefed on how the institute’s library uses ICT to provide information to students and faculty.

However, this study tour was also about getting practical experience and that was to come later in the day. The visitors had a hands-on training session on management systems, with the help of Moodle, which is used to facilitate online learning. It turned out to be an invigorating exchange session at the end of the day as students from Jaipuria, Jaipur found out more about the library management system used by their visitors, as well.

The students from the University of Jammu then had the opportunity to interact with Dr. Prabhat Pankaj, Director, Jaipuria, Jaipur. After taking a look around the entire campus and mingling with the students of the institute, the visitors left with special memories. As one of the students said, Jaipuria, Jaipur not only opened its doors but its hearts to them. Jaipuria Lucknow STUDENT Speaks

Nikita Mehra is thrilled about winning the Student of the Year Award and discusses how her institute prepared her for a professional journey in Finance.

“Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow has been a great experience and the best thing to have happened to me till date. Hence, I wanted to take the moment to thank each one of my faculty team and friends who have supported me on every step of the way.” These are the words of Nikita Mehra, student of Finance and Marketing, who won the student of the year award along with the prestigious Gold Medal. For her, the moment was made truly special because she made her teachers and father, who was present for the Convocation Day, proud of her achievements.

Nikita admits that she had taken a year’s break after her BBA before coming to Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow. So, she had to put her head down to get back into study mode and learn from the best. “The institute helped me realize talents that I didn’t know existed in me,” she says. “Who would have thought I would be performing in street plays? I thoroughly enjoyed that and learned from every experience. I would also like to thank my mentors and faculty members who were always accessible to me and guided me through the journey.

For Nikita, the journey with the renowned B School culminated with a placement with Capital IQ, a financial research company. She is filled with excitement about her future role and is raring to go. “The main factor that differentiates Capital IQ from other research firms is the manner in which it presents the data. I am proud to be a part of this company,” she says before adding that she would like to be working with the same company five years from now. But Nikita wants to be respected for her work – for her, esteem is more important than money.

Nikita came to Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow because her friends who had studied at the institute told her about it. On her Convocation Day, she had a new set of friends that she met at the institute hooting for her. Meanwhile, she had realized her dream of making a strong entry into the world of finance. “The institute has state of the art facilities and offers you opportunities to explore real corporate life. You are told how things work and I can see its advantage now that I have started working because I can relate things to every class of mine,” she ends excitedly. This connection between the classroom and corporate life is what the institute strives to impart to students. It is quite obvious that this approach can prepare students for the many demands of a professional career. Nikita, with her student of the year award and prestigious Gold Medal, is a perfect example of the success of this approach to education.
