“The discipline that Jaipuria taught me has helped me succeed in my career”, says Manpreet Singh Lamba who completed his PGDM from Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida. A 2010 batch alumni, Manpreet is employed with Mancer Consulting Services, the organization that offered him the position of management trainee during the campus recruitment. Since then, he has grown to the position of Team Lead/Assistant Manager.

Manpreet is convinced that an MBA today can be extremely helpful, especially one received from a good school like Jaipuria: “A college education provides with basic skills. To be employable and further grow in your domain, you need specialized learning and exposure, such asthe education you can receive while pursuing an MBA. A well designed program like the one Jaipuria offers can create huge impact.” However, it’s not just the program; the complete ensemble, including the faculty, infrastructure, co-curricular activities and the soft skill training contribute to the development of student into skilled professionals. “My journey with Jaipuria was very good, Manpreet tells us. “The program polished my skills, nurtured me in the best possible way, and gave me great exposure to a high-quality business education. The industry is becoming more competitive by every day. “I am a recruitment consultant and my clients are becoming more and more demanding, “Manpreet says. “The market trends are also dynamic, with businesses reducing or stopping the outsourcing of recruitment functions. The pressures are increasing, but this also makes the domain very exciting.” According to Manpreet, the economy is improving and the market is booming, creating growth in jobs in ever sector: “Today, even graduates from good colleges are getting placed and, hence, they can get some work experience before opting for post graduation”.

Manpreet advises the MBA aspirants to take the program seriously. “The program being offered by Jaipuria is designed to map the industry requirements,” he says. ”Its professional approach prepares students for employment, instead of simply handing out degrees”. This, he believes, is the greatest take-away from a higher education institute in the current times.

Mr. Yatish Wahaal talks about his meteoric rise and how Jaipuria Institute of Management helped him soar to towering heights of success

Saying that Mr. Yatish Wahaal has done Jaipuria Institute of Management proud would be an understatement. The fact that he is the winner of the first Chairman’s Medal given to alumni of the institute illustrates the significance of his professional achievements. A student of the 2007 batch, Mr. Wahaal remembers the fresh feel of Noida campus, and he credits the institute for giving him the right skills needed to make giant strides in his career. His success has led him to his current position as the CEO and Director of Nayati Healthcare & Research Pvt. Ltd.

Here, Mr. Wahaal talks about his professional growth and his institute’s role in his success. “I am really indebted to the house of Jaipuria because I feel that some of the very basic qualities they have instilled in me have resulted in the achievements that I have made,” he tells us. “It’s the passion for education, and not profits, that drives the institute.” He has, of course, reaped the benefits of his education, illustrated by his placement with Centurion Bank of Punjab. Mr. Wahaal bagged the placement at an interesting time for the bank – it was an in its expansion phase and his placement offered him a tremendous learning experience.

Since then, Mr. Wahaal has worked with Haier Appliance, a Fortune 500 consumer durable company, at a time when it was just setting up a base of operations in India. This was another position that gave him the experience needed to help him on his rise up the corporate ladder. He has also worked on several top rung projects, including the privatization of IPL, a gig for Sultanate of Oman and helping Sahara group acquire the Grosvenor House. He admits that it’s been a rewarding career so far and attributes it to the platform laid out for him by his institute.

Talking about his time at Jaipuria, Noida Mr. Wahaal says, “They offer plenty of scope to students to derive value from their education. Besides classroom learning, we did a lot of case studies, research work and industry visits that were really helpful. One of my most memorable experiences was working with Café Coffee Day with one of our professors. We did a live exercise at one of their outlets and helped create support material, including the idea of a signature CCD tune that worked towards their brand enhancement.”

Mr. Wahaal believes that it was exercises like these that brought him closer to his consulting career, which is his focus in the long run. Today, Nayati Healthcare & Research Pvt. Ltd. does its work in Tier 2 and Tier 3 areas where there is no network of doctors and medical professionals. The idea is to take healthcare to patients in a model that’s economically viable and sustainable. “It’s something I am passionate about and want to do for those around me, Mr. Wahaal says. “I am indebted by the Chairman’s Medal given to me; however, I also look at it as a sense of responsibility.”

Going down memory lane and reflecting on his academic days at the institute is not always easy for Mr. Wahaal, as it fills him with a wide range of emotions: “There are many great memories attached to those times. But, what I appreciate the most was that our institute took our suggestions on board, like when we asked for help in learning a foreign language. Upon this request, the institute quickly organized French lessons for its student body.” And, in a parting shot to current students, Mr. Wahaal says, “The institute offers you a phenomenal platform, make the most of it and avoid taking short cuts.” With his experience, both as a student and a professional, students would be wise to listen to these words.

Jaipuria Indore STUDENT Speaks

Ayush Garg bags second place at an event held by IMA; discusses the beneficial initiatives by Jaipuria, Indore as the reasons behind his success

Ayush Garg, a student of PGDM 2015 at Jaipuria, Indore, recently did himself and his institute proud by bagging the second prize in a research and study event hosted by Indore Management Association. What makes his achievement noteworthy is the fact that his team had to fight off competition from 40 other teams who participated in the first round. Here, he talks about the competition and his passion for CIS, an initiative from his institute.

We begin with his newest achievement, and asked Ayush to elaborate on the nature of the competition. “It was all about a detailed presentation on your research and study performed to understand how we can reclaim India,” he tells us. “through various leadership requirements and convert them into management lessons.” Ayush’s management education gave him a solid foundation to succeed at this event; however, it also showcased another of his great qualities: his leadership.

The thing to note is that Ayush’s team consisted of juniors, which means he had to lead the way. It was a challenge he seemed to relish. He shares with us some of the times during the event where the team had to step up and elevate their approach: “The first instance was when we had to build a conceptual framework, which we then used to frame the overall presentation. Finally, we had to answer the questions posed by the judges during final round, which was challenging.”

There is definitely an air of confidence about the young man, and doing exceedingly well at a prestigious event might have a lot to do with that. But, according to Ayush, it was possible thanks to his learning at his institute: “Some of the things I learned here, including building a perspective on a topic, believing in yourself and presenting your ideas with confidence, helped me immensely through the competition.”

Ayush also talks about the Course on Independent Study, which was introduced as a part of the Jaipuria PGDM curriculum. It offers students an opportunity to study one less subject and carry out detailed research on a chosen topic. “I always wanted to explore and get deep into any particular subject matter, which drove me towards Social Commerce study,” he adds. “It’s a great opportunity for us students and I’m making the most out of it.”

While Ayush awaits the much deserved award (the ceremony is on the 7th of February), he dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and thanks his institute for instilling this belief in him. “Our institute started an entrepreneurship course, and there was the tie up with entrepreneurship promoting organization like NEN,” he says. “I would like to do something with everything we’ve been given, and become an entrepreneur in the education industry.” Ayush has his sights set on the future. And, judging by his early successes and the educational foundation provided by his institute, it is clear that he will reach his goals.

FACULTY Speaks Jaipuria Indore

Dr. Romi Sainy offers aspirants an insight into the world of marketing and explains the latest trends, opportunities and challenges that lie ahead

Dr. Sainy, Chair Programme and Branding at Jaipuria, Indore has been a marketing faculty member at Jaipuria Institute of Management for years now, and has, over time, developed a passion for training industry executives. Having completed a few in-company training seminars and MDPs in the last few years, she has seen the field evolve, both in academia and in the industry. She is also working on a paper on technology readiness among customers in banking, which can be helpful to both banks and scholars doing research on related topics.

Given her experience on both sides of the fence, so to speak, it seems obvious to ask her about the latest trends in marketing. “There are two things happening in digital marketing that just cannot be ignored. Marketing analytics is definitely the driver, but personalized marketing is also coming of age. It’s interesting to see how it is affecting the marketing landscape, giving way to whole new methods of promotion and forcing companies to revamp their integrated marketing strategies” says Dr. Sainy.

New trends in the industry often bring exciting and dynamic opportunities for professionals in the field. It’s something all management hopefuls look forward to and Dr. Sainy has some good news: “Opportunities are immense, as a recent survey conducted by McKinsey shows pretty positive sentiments towards jobs available in marketing with a special focus on online platforms. Students who plan to take up marketing as their major should take these developments very seriously and start preparing themselves.”

Having worked closely with recruiters, and after conducting training sessions for students applying for marketing profiles, Dr. Sainy also seems to be the right person to offer aspirants an insight into what skills are required of them as future professionals. “Both hard and soft skills are taken into account,” she says. “Recruiters want students who are smart and possess hands on experience with MS Excel and presentations, besides just analytical and problem solving skills. Your dedication, commitment and flexibility are soft skills that come into play.”

After all, organizations are looking to recruit professionals who can be moulded into the culture of the company. Hence, flexibility and adaptability and the willingness to learn and grow are some of the attributes marketing professionals of today should have, according to Dr. Sainy. And how does one go about building on these skills? She ponders before replying, “There is no specific formula as such, but I believe in the old saying, ‘practice makes you perfect.’ Students should also focus on their interests and build their careers around them.”

At the end of the day, the world of marketing is challenging – professionals need to strive for excellence in order to make place for themselves. Dr. Sainy agrees whole-heartedly and adds, “You need to have a learner’s attitude and the hunger to strive for nothing less than extraordinary. If you have the fire in you, nobody can stop you from achieving what you desire. It’s also a good idea to update yourself in your areas of interest because once you have mentioned them in an interview, you can expect lot of questions on them.”

Jaipuria Lucknow hosts IS Conclave that unravels the mysteries around E-commerce

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow hosted its Information Systems Conclave on the 13th of December, 2014. “Sailing the E-commerce Boat” was the theme for the day that brought experts in the exciting and dynamic industry to the campus. E-commerce has changed the face of business for many and is here to stay. Hence it seemed apt for the students at the institute to get an insight on how the industry works and opportunities that lay ahead.

Mr Neelabh Srivastav, Founder, Greenfield IT Solutions and Mr. Subhashish Roy, IT Security Consultant, Trendsetterz IT Services Pvt. Ltd were the esteemed guests for the events and they touched upon all varied topics including working of E-commerce, cloud computing and related security reasons. The venue was filled with students waiting in anticipation as they were keen to learn all about this new age business medium.

The conclave began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a welcome speech by Dr. Ankit Mehrotra, Chairperson – PGDM, Jaipuria, Lucknow. He gave a brief overview of what one could expect from the conclave before handing over the stage to Mr. Srivastav. “The Enigmatic Commerce: Shifting Paradigm to look different” was the topic of his talk and through it he explained the emphasis of Ecommerce in our day to day lives.

E-commerce has definitely taken the world by storm and according to Mr. Srivastav it’s because of, “Benefits like saving time, more variety, less crowd, less taxes. However there is still lot of enigma about Ecommerce even today, especially when it comes to Hindi literature. That’s where the idea for my portal came from,” he says. He also talked about 3D retailing of Omni Channel Commerce to give students relevant examples from the industry.

Mr. Srivastav’s portal is Notnull that enables intellectuals to connect with each other. There are several research articles that those interested can access as well. Elaborating more on his venture, he says, “It is a platform to gain knowledge about creative stuff. The portal has got lot of success. Hindi for the first time got visibility through our website because there aren’t many Hindi literature magazines that you can find online.”

After that insight about the industry from Mr. Srivastav, it was time to focus on two other crucial elements of E-commerce; finance and security. “PCI Compliance: Confidence towards boosting consumer’s transaction” was the theme for the session by Mr. Roy and he began by saying, “Goal of PCI DSS is to protect information from cards and holders, defining a set of security requirements. Data Security status in banks needs attention.”

According to Mr. Roy, the service providers to banks also need to play their role by keeping up with the advancements. He then went on explain the Modus Operandi of Cashless Transactions. He believes the prerequisites for any cashless transactions are, “Infrastructure spread, technology, connectivity, data security, physical security, customer education and knowledge, customer friendly operations.”

To those who wish to start their E-commerce business, Mr. Roy had useful advice. “It is definitely going places, but you have to identify your target audience before taking the plunge. Know what you want to sell and its utility too. Focus on the thrust area for your ecommerce business. It’s important to be the Jack of one trade and master it too,” he thus concluded his talk and the conclave that offered students an insiders’ view of Ecommerce.
