5 cool things to expect when at Jaipuria Institute of Management

Life for a Jaipurian is anything but not boring. In fact, the majority of the Jaipuria Institute of Management PGDM students claim their life on campus to be an “insanely interesting affair!” Be it the Indore campus or Noida; the Jaipur campus or Lucknow, the sun never sets at Jaipuria Institute of Management. You literally got to take a walk through any of our four campuses- on a Monday or a Sunday to know what we mean when we say- welcome to our magical world!

All set to take a ride? Here’s a list of five “cool-max” things to expect when you are attending your PGDM from any of our four campuses:

1. Life after 6

Students swear by creativity here. Literally! After attending back-to-back classes throughout the day, Jaipuria students are often seen using their evenings to indulge in jam sessions or attending language workshops (Chinese language as well), or practicing the latest dance numbers for upcoming fests. While Jaipuria, Jaipur students are seen busy in Martial Art classes, Noida students willingly learn the art of Business Simulations or Applied Econometrics as part of their ECA. With the rigorous PGDM program curriculum, the school tries to keep evenings free for students to use them the way they like- learning new things or simply, relaxing over free-wheeling, coffee conversations among peers.

2. Campuses that are [really] beautiful

Spread over sprawling acres of green land, all the four campuses of Jaipuria carry in them state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities and are extremely technology-enabled places. The best thing about each campus is- you are greeted by green lawns right when you step in. The concrete waits for you, many steps away. Every effort has been made to keep students in touch with essential elements of nature—fresh air and sunlight. There are places within the campus where students indulge in group activities like seeing sunrise and sunset while sipping a cup of tea over-friendly, meandering conversations.

3. Food. Food. And a lot of food.

From the hostel specials to the twenty-four hours eating joints, Jaipurians got their places to curb their hunger. Be it the Indore campus’ famous Dahi Papri or Noida’s paranthe waala bhaiyya; be it the Lazy Mojo and the hostellers’ favorite Momo Bhaiyya right outside the Jaipur campus, or Wahid, Tunday Kebab and Idrish Biryani right across few blocks of the Lucknow campus- know this for sure- where there is food, there has to be a Jaipurian; and, where there is a Jaipurian, there has to be food.

4. The hot spots on campus

The student lounges across all four campuses are bustling with crazy energy and life! The Canteen and TT room of Noida and Lucknow campuses are literally never empty. Indore students spend their free hours walking and talking in “The Street” or at the “G Point” (yes, you read it right!), while the Jaipur superhumans are frequently spotted chilling “outside” the canteen (god knows why!) and you will see a lot of student groups sitting and chatting on the staircase (to classrooms) as well.

5. Clubs. Committees. Group activities.

You will not meet a single Jaipurian who is not an active member of at least one student club. Be it the famous Media Relations Club (MRC) of Jaipuria Institute of Management or the Mecca for any B-school grad- the Placement Cell, you will never come across a Jaipurian who is not leading from the front. With more than 50 active student clubs operating collectively across the four campuses, Jaipurians build on their capacities from day one into their PGDM.

Six reasons why MBA is a smart bet during Economic Recession

“MBA is the best investment during the recession,” screamed the headline of an article in Economic Times last year. The renowned publication made the big claim after taking into account opinions from industry and academia experts in India and abroad. It was when our economy had shown early signs of a downturn and yet B Schools like ISB, Hyderabad saw a rise in the number of applicants to its flagship program by about 20%. Today the economy is headed for a downward spiral with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and ET’s theory stands stronger than ever.

B-Schools globally, which had seen a drop in a number of applicants lately, is seeing a surge this year, all credit goes to COVID-19. Management institutes in India are no different. It’s a curious case of why the rise in MBA applications goes hand in hand with recession. But according to experts, the logic is fairly simple. Recession leads to fewer opportunities for career growth and interesting job profiles. MBA enables you to add value to your CV while boosting your industry-required skills to the next level and India’s top MBA college are geared up to equip you with these cutting-edge skills.

Why you should pursue MBA during the recession:

  1. Build a strong foundation across different domains of the business world while getting first-hand insights through live projects and case studies. Top B Schools like Jaipuria Institute of Management, MDI in the country constantly endeavor to create a seamless blend of theoretical learning and practical exposure.
  2. Pick up new age specializations in your area of interest or fields that are predicted to boom in the near future. For example, the Jaipuria Institute of Management is offering specialized programs in PGDM in Financial Services, PGDM/MBA in Retail Management, PGDM (Service Management), which can give you a foothold in lucrative sectors. Not only that Jaipuria has an option for Industry-run-certificate courses by BSE, KPMG, Thomas Assessment, IBM Analytics, TrakInvest, and British Standard Institute (BSI). These PGDM courses are over and above the electives and students have the choice of opting for one.
  3. Boost your long-term career prospects with new-age skills like Business Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning while mixing your MBA major and minor areas. Most of the premier management institutes like ISB, Hyderabad, SPJIMR, Jaipuria Institute of Management also incorporate these courses into their on-trend curriculum.
  4. Imbibe leadership skills that will take you a long way in your career. According to industry experts, it is one of the most sought-after skills for candidates for management jobs. Business Schools encourage you to be part of various student clubs and take an active role in organizing activities and events, which polish your leadership skills.
  5. A network you can rely on for the rest of your career. Renowned B Schools have a strong industry connection and alumni network, which you benefit from. And at a time like this with rapid changes in the world, your network is to decide your net worth in more ways than one. At the same time, you can build long-term bonds with your faculty members and mentors.
  6. Get placement opportunities that fast-track your career growth. Even during the pandemic and subsequent lockdown, top Indian B Schools have performed brilliantly as far as placements are concerned. In fact, blue-chip organizations and e-commerce companies are hiring MBA graduates from top B-schools in full swing to help them establish order and market in the new economy. Jaipuria had fared well in placement despite pandemics.
Remember recessions don’t last forever, your skills and transformational experiences will do. You can build on those skills and insights to work towards a future-proof career.

There will be heightened demand of MBA in specialized area in coming days? Explore now

Covid-19 pandemic has sent strong ripples around the world and almost no industry sector has remained untouched by its impact. The first lockdown in India began in March and the snowball effect was seen on MBA placements this year. Leading firms withdrew offers while several other companies deferred placements. In these times of uncertainty, we sought answers from Mr. Sandip Das, General Manager – Corporate Relations, Jaipuria Institute of Management on MBA placements in the new normal; the aftermath, and the silver linings (yes there are!).

In 2019, India produced a whopping 16 lakh MBA graduates. However, it’s the graduates from top management institutes that bag a major share of plum placements every season. As one of the top B schools in India, Jaipuria Institute of Management has enjoyed a consistent placement record, across its four campuses. But Mr. Das admits that the last 3-4 months have been challenging.

According to Mr. Das, with the industry facing the heat, the ripple effect on placements was expected. He asserts that Travel & Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment, Retail are the most adversely affected, but there are sectors that are emerging, offering a ray of hope too. “Healthcare, eCommerce, logistics and supply chain, insurance, nutraceuticals, retailing, agriculture are either emerging or are poised to grow in the near future. PGDM Courses will remain relevant for the market segment it serves, but specializations will emerge in a big way,” he adds.

Specialized MBA and Placements

MBAs and placements are entering a new phase and there is bound to be a shake-up. But as Mr. Das says, there will be a heightened demand for specialized MBAs in specific areas. And what are these areas that are likely to show growing demand for well-trained future professionals? “Business Continuity Management, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Analytics, Remote Productivity Management, are the main areas of specializations that will become a new normal in days to come,” he predicts.

Mr. Das also declares that the new normal needs sound management at B Schools to remain adaptable with changing times, have a vision and ability to see through emerging demands in the industry, and equip its human capital with these evolving needs, both in terms of infrastructure and skill development. “Repeat recruiters have always remained dependable partners of business schools. But their numbers might be restricted now. Campuses that build relationships with the emerging industry and start offering courses in trending specializations will be able to attract more companies for placements,” he says with authority.

After all, Jaipuria Institute of Management which is India’s one of the best MBA College in Delhi NCR has managed to overturn the slump in placements, what is also noteworthy is that during the ongoing lockdown, the institute introduced the Summer Internship Programmes (SIP) for students who did not receive work from home projects with companies. Developed by faculty members, these programmes included week-wise tasks, deliverables, assessments, and more to create a practical learning experience. The institute managed 275+ students recruit and got them on board at various companies across its 4 campuses during the lockdown period. Adapting with the new normal 2000+ hours of online engagement and over 400 webinars were conducted to keep the learning continue.

It also handled the placement season successfully amidst the pandemic.

The average CTC of the PGDM program of 2021 went up to 10.05 Lacs p.a. for the top 20% of the students. CITY FRESH BASKET- A Startup Journey by Anurag – an alumnus of Jaipuria Lucknow

Mr. Anurag Sharma is an alumnus of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow. He completed his  MBA in Retail Management in the year 2019 and was placed with BYJU.
Anurag was always a man of ideas and was always involved in one or the other idea or was busy giving shape to his ideas. He may be rightly called a serial entrepreneur as he started his first venture in his graduation time where he started serving a variety of sandwiches and beverages to customers in NCR region. The uniqueness of the venture was that it was open for an order for 24 hours.
Once he joined India’s top MBA college named Jaipuria Institute of Management, he made maximum use of opportunities provided by the Institute and Incubation Cell and participated and presented his multiple ideas on various prominent platforms which included IIM’s and IIT’s. He had such a deep passion for entrepreneurship that in all events in which he participated he was amongst the top 3 participants. He was also the winner of MIDCOM business challenge award where the prize money was 5 lakh INR.
After completing his PGDM course in Retail Management, he started his corporate journey but could not resist his temptation for new ventures and lockdown presented the perfect opportunity. While due to lockdown and work from home he was confined to the boundaries of his home, he opened the boundaries of his thoughts and imagination and mixed them with business logic/sense to come up with the idea of City Fresh Basket in his home town Agra. It is now almost a 7-month-old nascent baby but has started showing promising growth and a great future.
Following are some excerpts of our discussion with Mr. Anurag:
What makes City Fresh Basket unique?
If we look at the current fruits & vegetables online providers in the market, Big Basket, Grofers, Milk basket and all of them are selling but the difference with City Fresh Basket is in ‘the service’ which they are providing. Chemical-free, fresh, Organic are the Unique Selling Proposition of our model.
CITY FRESH BASKET- an alumnus of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow

Share some market insights of Agra and what convinced you to start this venture?
An interesting point of today’s businesses is that ‘Customers have too many options, but not the Sellers’. The market has shown impressive growth over the past years, consumer behavior has changed largely because of changing lifestyles and wants of the customers. Urbanization has played a vital role in the online buying behavior of the young generation. Premium quality products along with perfect expertise are what are desirable. We analyzed the various segments available in the market and designed our offering. Agra being a hot tourist destination has good number of hotels as well hence we decided to provide our offering both to B2B and B2C segment.
We were able to consolidate the demand and were able to deliver all orders before 8 am the next day. We strengthened our procurement strategy and procured the best quality of fruits and vegetables both commonly used as well as exotic ones.
What are some challenges which you faced while setting up this venture?
This market is characterized by huge price fluctuations, so the timing of the purchase is important. The margins in this market are 6-8% and considering high instances of wastage, it’s challenging to procure at the right time, preserve in the right manner and price them judiciously.
We decided to connect directly with farmers in certain cases. We even trained them in agriculture extension services and organic farming and the results have been encouraging as we have been able to increase their incomes as well. To manage the operations smoothly, decisions were made at right time. I feel meticulous planning and immaculate execution was the key.
Some unique aspects of our business are:
• Zero waste model
• Offering premium quality of products both to B2B & B2C
• Trust & Traceability
• Short supply chain-which is very important in today’s competitive business world.
• Better for the green planet, customer perception towards them.
What has been the growth till now and what are the future plans?
Till now it has been a journey full of challenges, learnings, and yes some rising revenues as well. We have close to 5000 active users as on date and achieved a turnover of around 30 lakhs in 6 months.
We are planning to expand to at least 2 new locations by end of the year. Apart from that we are committed to ensuring an increase in the income of farmers as well. In a nutshell, we are not only working for profits, we are committed to the cause of people (consumers, farmers, etc) and also for the planet (by promoting organic farming).
Your piece of advice for the young budding entrepreneurs?
‘Idea’ is nothing without a team. It’s not like that it will get stolen, so feel free to discuss it with people around you and experts. If there is no need, create a need. But at the same time, be realistic. Firstly, find the right people and then manage them well. Planning and execution are life and blood for success. Last and the most important one ‘Make mistakes, keep failing but don’t give up till you succeed’.

Rashmeet, Samrat, Saagar – The trio from Jaipuria set to start their career with HCL

Rashmeet, Samrat, Saagar – The trio from Jaipuria who are all set to start their career with HCL

What constitutes a successful career? Well, to begin with, a great education degree from a reputed institute, mentors who always motivate you, and professors who prepare you to take up every challenge with a winning attitude.
The journey of success, then we can say, begins on a campus where each student is nurtured to accomplish something great.
Rashmeet, Samrat, and Saagar can vouch for such a journey they had at Jaipuria Institute of Management, which is India’s one of the best MBA Colleges in Noida, Delhi NCR, Indore, Lucknow and Jaipur. Recently, all three of them got placed with HCL Technologies.
While the world today struggles with covid crisis, the Institute has actively facilitated the students in every possible way – be it holding classes on campus or online, expert talks, placements, or convocation.
Jaipuria Institute of Management is committed to excellence in management education. Here, faculty members are always available to help and guide the students to make them corporate-ready. They leave no stones unturned to provide students with training sessions, learning materials, industry talks, which helps in preparing us according to industry requirements,” Rashmeet says.
“Constant motivation and support are two pillars that always helped us to get our best possible potentials”, says Samrat. He adds that faculty and staff members have always been supportive in bringing out the best possible opportunities for us to excel.
An important feature of the Placement Training program is pre-placement talks, personality development, and preparatory classes (including mock interviews). This is compulsory for all eligible students.
Saagar shares that since the lockdown, as interactions and interviews moved online, the Institute was quick in organizing the Online Etiquettes session, Personality sessions, Optimizing LinkedIn session, Training about different virtual meet platforms such as Zoom, Google meet, MS Teams. “Moreover, we were provided company-specific training not once but at least twice,” says Saagar with appreciation.
The interview with HCL Technologies involved several rounds. It began with a Group Interview wherein all 10 candidates were asked a similar set of questions. The focus was to assess a student’s communication, attitude, and general awareness skills.
The second round was a personal interview, where among other things questions related to student’s background, situational-based questions, why the student wants to join the IT industry were asked. The interviewer wanted to understand a student’s perception of the job description also. The third round was also an intensive personal interview. Lastly, a Group HR round was conducted. Here students have shared the location constraints and what are the things a student should do before joining the organization.
Saagar is thankful to his professors – Dr. Sajjan Singhvi and Prof. V P Singh – who has been a constant inspiration to him throughout his 2 years of MBA. He says that in these 2 years at Jaipuria Noida, his mentor Prof. Joy Patra put in more efforts to chisel him than Saagar himself did. “It is indeed great to have the full support of your MBA institute to make your dreams come true,” Samrat says.
Collectively, a lot of things put together strengthens your future success. Among them, the first one is to live your dream of getting ‘campus placement’.
At Jaipuria, we take care of your dreams!

When she got the news of her final selection, Soumya was at home. Instantly, she shared this news with her parents who were glad to have chosen Jaipuria Management Institute for their daughter’s MBA program.

She credits her achievement to her professors, who even during the lockdown phase were actively involved in organizing classes in online mode. “Most faculties were easily available for any doubts that we had. Studies were smooth this whole time.”

Speaking about her interview experience at Deloitte she shares that a lot of questions were on accounting and excel. Additionally, few personal and situational-based questions were asked too.

” A tricky question for me was when I was asked to mention a difficult decision that I have ever taken in my life,” she shares. Even though she instantly didn’t know what to answer, she composed her thoughts, took a few moments to think, and then answered it by saying – ‘It was difficult for me to make a career choice after 12th as I was confused between choosing B.Com or English Honours for my graduation’.

No matter how you perform during an interview, there is always a learning curve. Soumya has a message for the upcoming batch that “utilize time to strengthen your Excel skills. Take MBA/PGDM courses on your major like financial modeling and regularly read the news, as your general knowledge plays a major role in the recruitment process.”
