Jaipuria Institute of Management opens campuses for Physical Classes

In the summer of 2020, when Shivani decided to take admissions for an MBA at Jaipuria Institute of Management, she had a bucket list of things to do on campus.

The one that topped her list was “making memories for life”. But because of the pandemic, her classes were held online regularly until now. Though learning never stopped at Jaipuria, all these months Shivani eagerly waited for the campus to reopen.

College means different things to different people. For some, it’s a mecca where dreams are built, where careers are given shape and the leaders of tomorrow are nurtured. To others, besides a career, college is also a place to make lifetime friends and create campus memories.

Palpable vibrant energy with students’ fills the campus as Jaipuria Institute of Management opens campuses for physical classes.

So, when Jaipuria Institute of Management decided to reopen the campus from January 2021 for physical classes, Shivani of the PGDM/MBA course 2020-22 batch was more than excited.

“The start of physical classes fills me with excitement and eager anticipation of who will join me in my courses and where our discussions will take us,” Shivani says.

Palpable vibrant energy fills the campus air as enthusiastic students return after seven months. The same goes for faculties and staff members who are eager to interact with freshers, newcomers, and existing students.

Everyone is more action-oriented than ever. The spirit to host the annual management fest like Ojas or National conference IIC at Lucknow, Youth 2025 at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur, or the annual all-campus alumni meet ‘Punarsangam’ at Jaipuria Noida is exemplary.

Talking about the arrangements on campus, Shivani says, “The Institute has meticulously planned to keep everybody safe and healthy. The institute’s response to the pandemic showcases its resolve towards safety. Their concrete plan to resume classes, with all precautions and safety measures intact, has ensured that each student gets top-of-the-line facilities to get an environment safe as home. Not just that, there are thermal scanners, hand sanitizers, masks, wherever you turn.”

Significant resources have been dedicated to bringing students, faculty, staff, and academic personnel back safely to a healthy campus. Jaipuria Management Institute in India has collaborated with HealthSetGo, one of the reputed healthcare organizations to develop the SOP guidelines on campus. Hundreds of person-hours have gone into planning because every small detail is necessary to prevent COVID-related health risks.

“Of course, the campus is a lot different now. At the entrance, temperature checks are mandatory. Students are strictly asked to follow physical distancing norms be it in the class, library, or cafeteria. Classroom sessions are held with 50% seating capacity,” says Syed Kamran, PGDM 2019-21 batch from Jaipuria Lucknow campus.

For Shivani and her classmates, seeing these arrangements in place conveys that – Jaipuria cares. She looks forward to the remaining semesters of the MBA program.

She says, “I feel it is important to interact with my peers to pursue acts of learning. I believe, besides studies, our class learning community equally shapes our personality.”

Indeed, creating a safe, healthy campus takes elbow grease and human concern.

The “future of work” has already arrived, says recent research released by the World Economic Forum. Forecasting the future scenario, the report says that by 2025, automation and a new division of labour between humans and machines will disrupt 85 million jobs globally in medium and large businesses across 15 industries and 26 economies.

However, a key point to note is that the tasks where humans are set to retain their comparative advantage include – managing, advising, decision-making, reasoning, communicating, and interacting.

According to The Future of Jobs Survey, core skills such as critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving are consistently at the top of the reskilling and upskilling priorities for educators and businesses.

Keeping this in mind, the Jaipuria Institute of Management has developed a unique industry mentorship program, wherein students are mentored by industry experts in real-life projects to get first-hand experience. Indeed, this initiative has boosted the confidence of recruiters which can be seen in placements at Jaipuria Institute of Management. Things To Do Before Appearing For GD & PI of a B School

Getting into the B School of your choice can be the gateway to the successful corporate career you have dreamed of. You may have already narrowed down the list of B Schools where you want to pursue your MBA. Your efforts before the CAT may have borne results. Together with your strong academic record, they can bring you to the doorstep of the B School of your choice. But to cross the threshold, you need to put your best step forward, one more time.

The Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI), are considered the crucial stage in the MBA admission process. Widely accepted by most of the B Schools in the country as a benchmark to pick the best candidates for their respective programs, GD and PI can be daunting prospects. This stage of the selection process has been designed to test your communication skills, problem-solving skills, and leadership abilities. Your performance should reflect a good sense of all three to get through. At Jaipuria Institute of Management 35% weightage is given to case-based group discussion and personal interviews apart from 45% weightage to CAT/MAT/XAT percentile.

Understanding what is expected of you during the GD and PI rounds is the first step in making the best impression. Your performance on the D Day is a culmination of your efforts and the entry ticket to the B School of your choice. It also decides your eligibility for the scholarship and even the desired PGDM program. But in between these two, lies the key stage of preparation. Academic experts believe your preparations for GD and PI should begin right after you appear for your CAT. It will help you gear up for what is to come next.

So how do you ensure that your GD and PI preparations are spot on? How can you give yourself the edge over hundreds of candidates appearing for the selection process of a top B School?

Few things you need to do before you appear for GD & PI.
  • Every candidate is expected to stay abreast with current affairs. Group Discussion themes often revolve around social and political issues, economic growth and decline, International affairs, and industry trends. You can grasp things happening in the world around you by reading newspapers and magazines regularly. Business Standard, Economic Times are some of the popular choices.
  • The next step is outlining your arguments so that they are expressed coherently. When you are preparing your arguments, think about the counterpoints that will be thrown at you during the GD. Mock Group Discussions work wonders for your preparation. Gather your friends, fellow candidates, or family members and practice your arguments. It will give you the confidence for the big day and also polish any rough edges.
  • Here’s some good news about Personal Interviews. They often have staple questions like “Tell me a bit about yourself”, “Where do you see yourself five years from now?” etc. Now to the tricky part. Candidates have similar, staid answers for these questions, which can get repetitive and boring for the interviewer. If you want to hold their attention, prepare an answer that reflects something truly unique about you.
  • But not everyone can have something different to say in order to stand out from the crowd. When you can’t conquer with content, win them over with presentation. During GD and PI both, your communication should be authoritative but composed. Your body language should be relaxed but not flippant. Pick a crisp outfit and rehearse your entry, sitting position, and delivery a few times before the actual day.

There is no magic formula to ace the crucial GD & PI round of the admission process, but these tips can help you make a lasting impression and ace in the selection process.

Dr. Prithvi Yadav, Director – Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore Future Growth Plan

Dr. Prithvi Yadav, the new director of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore reveals his Ambitious plans and growth strategies for the B School Education has remained the cornerstone of every society. But as we transition into the “new world” that relationship gets deeper. Dr. Prithvi Yadav understands the full potential and significance of this relationship. “Today when we talk about an institution, the society around it plays a crucial role. How we take society along depends on the brand image of the institution. We have a complete plan to cater to the society by involving students, faculty, and staff through formal and informal processes,” he says thoughtfully. We talk to him about his other such plans for the leading Management Colleges in Indore, Central India.

In his career spanning almost three decades, Dr. Yadav has taught at the IITs, IIMs as well as foreign universities in the UK, US, and China. He has been awarded the prestigious first “Fellow of AIMS International” by AIMS International, USA, and President, GBMF (USA) for contribution in Management Education & Research. It’s this vast experience and the reputation of being a visionary for education that he brings to his new role. But according to him, “Quality, emphasis on academics, and good faculty, have been guiding factors in higher education. NEP-2020 emphasizes on full autonomy to quality level institutions, which will maintain academics and research at the top standards.”

Having been nurtured in the faculty-driven culture of IIMs, Dr. Yadav believes in maintaining the highest order of transparency and accountability. It’s something he has emphasized on practicing from day one at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore. He is equally candid with us when he talks about the key areas of focus for him in the near future. “Improving the standards of academics through teaching and research, followed by executive programs will be the top priority. My prime role would be an enabler of the best learning environment for students. Faculties will have full autonomy to adopt the most appropriate pedagogy to deliver the highest level of learning and to undertake industry-relevant research activities,” he adds with refreshing candor.

According to Dr. Yadav, the Jaipuria Institute of Management already has a strong reputation, which he aims to build on further. He reminds us that the B School is perceived as one of the best in terms of RoI in the country. Its curricula are as per the standard of AACSB and faculty members have been trained by AACSB professionals. “Today, industry rates AACSB at the top for assurance of learning. Our very first agenda would be to bring AACSB accreditation to its cap in the next 2-3 years, thus becoming the first and youngest in the city to do so. AMBA accreditation would be the next target in the coming 5 years,” he spells out the tangible goals.

Dr. Yadav believes that when NEP-2020 comes into force, the higher education sector will have a complete 360-degree turn. Institutions based on the concept of multi-discipline and multi-program would be the new paradigm of growth. Jaipuria, Indore, one of the best MBA colleges in Indore already has the infrastructural facilities in place to realize the potential as full-fledged University status. With his “transformation man” reputation, Dr. Yadav is the right man to helm matters at the B School at the right time.

Excellent placements of PGDM graduates in Jaipuria Institute of Management during Pandemic

When they coined the adage, ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going, they couldn’t have foreseen the present times. The covid-19 pandemic has been one of the biggest health, humanitarian and economic crises we have seen. Its aftermath has taken its toll in all directions, including MBA/PGDM placements for 2020. But it took one of the top B Schools in North and Central India to show us how it’s done. Jaipuria Institute of Management has proven its tough mettle by mitigating the damage to the current placement season. We interviewed Mr. Amit Attry, Vice President – Marketing & Corporate Relations, and Mr. Sandip Das, GM – Corporate Relations & Placements of the B School to find out how they did it.

The highlights of Placements 2020 at Jaipuria Institute of Management:

• Over 95% of students placed and campus placement still continues for the remaining students
• More than 60 multiple offers
• Diversified roles have been offered
• Increase in both fixed and CTC compensation
These are achievements one could be proud of in regular circumstances. But Jaipuria Institute of Management has unleashed these figures in the year marred by Covid-19. In times when employers were rescinding and deferring offers, how did the top management institute achieve this feat? “It was the robust network, tireless efforts, timely shift in technology, and well-planned acts of Jaipuria CMC that started bringing companies back to the campus. Processes of online campus selections resumed within a span of one and half months of commencement of lockdown,” says Mr. Attry.
It’s interesting to note that new graduates of Jaipuria Institute of Management have received more than 75 employment offers via tech platforms during the lockdown. Mr. Das reminds us that companies are using zoom, hangout, Webex, skype and telephonic interviews to conduct their selection processes. “Jaipuria CMC adopted the hummingbird approach and immediately shifted to online platforms for all interactions with students. We organized over 25 webinars with industry experts and many other sessions in a short span of time,” he adds.
These effective and timely responses enabled students to smoothly transition to the tech-driven placement process. As a result, during the lockdown, the B School placed close to 75 students who were waiting for their first offer from campus. More impressively, it also placed more than 10 students whose offers were revoked by their respective organizations during this period. Not only that the institute managed to get over 275 students on board at various organizations.
Looking ahead Mr. Attry. says, “We are committed to responding to changing needs of the industry and have been working developing modules/capsule programs/certification courses to equip our students to meet the need of the hour.” It’s something that this NIRF top-ranked B School has done effectively and has led by example.

Anoushka after doing PGDM Course from Jaipuria Institute of Management

Anoushka’s online Placement experience after finishing PGDM Course

Focusing on the solution rather than the problem was the strategy that paid rich dividends for Anoushka Bhatia during the Group Discussion round of the recruitment process for Pantaloons. As she prepares to step into professional gear in times of pandemic, it’s the same strategy that will hold her in good stead. PGDM course Batch 2018 – 20 students of the leading b-School in Jaipur, India, Anouska has been placed with the leading Indian retail brand Pantaloons.

With close to 40 candidates from different campuses opting for Pantaloons, Anoushka knew that the placement process would be nerve-wracking. The selection process where the panelist created a tense environment. “They asked me to reveal something about myself that wasn’t on my CV. One minute they were asking me questions about workplace situations and the next they would trick me with personal questions. You have to be on your toes and at the top of your game to keep up with them,” she advises from experience.

Anoushka was up to the challenge because she had gone through similar drills in training leading up to the placement season. The industry exposure she received gave her enough insights to understand what was expected of her. “Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur which is also ranked one of the top MBA colleges in Jaipur, fosters an environment where the best aspects of your personality are polished and revealed. All of us have some confidence within us, but my B School gave me the platforms to showcase it to the world. Good organizations take care of all stakeholders; great institutions treat you like a family. I have always felt that at Jaipuria, Jaipur because everyone was personally involved in our success,” she says emotionally.

As a professional, Anoushka hopes to create a similar family-like environment for employees of her organization in the future. “My campus experiences have taught me how to capture people’s attention. I have worked in teams of people with different personalities and gained people management skills. I will rely on them to prove myself as a professional,” she concludes strongly.
