The covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath have taken a toll on practically every sphere, from economy to education. New management students in particular have been faced with doubts and uncertainties. In these unprecedented times, Jaipuria Institute of Management has stood tall, focusing on student interests and learning experiences while making their health and wellbeing a priority.

Jaipuria Institute of Management engaged with their students during the Covid-19 pandemic

The early days of the pandemic led to much anxiety about safety, including on college campuses. Jaipuria Institute of Management, India’s one of the top MBA colleges in Noida, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Indore was quick to respond to the challenge with precautionary measures that minimized risks of the infection. Vaishali Kiran, student of PGDM Batch 2020 – 22 rightly points out, “The precautionary measures not only ensured safety but put our parents’ minds at rest. In general, it created empathetic vibes, which we all need in these times.” But there was work to be done as students’ learning couldn’t be compromised upon.

When many B Schools in India dropped the ball, Jaipuria Institute of Management picked up the gauntlet by engaging with its students in various modes for its students. The lockdown only went on to unlock the true potential of online learning for students as experts from various fields were invited to share insights on a wide range of highly relevant topics. Dr. Prabhat Pankaj, Director, Jaipuria, Jaipur discussed ‘The Economics of Happiness” while several faculty members across campuses joined in with live sessions in their respective domains.

Dr. Kavita Pathak, Director, Jaipuria, Lucknow emphasized the experience as she said, “At Jaipuria, we look at every adversity as an opportunity to unlock new doors. We have not only migrated online but also cemented our bonds with all stakeholders including students, alumni as well as recruiters.” A strong outreach program by the B School keeps students updated with information about learning as well as co-curricular and fun sessions that keep their spirits up in these testing times.

It has stayed the reassuring voice during the lockdown that students needed to hear. According to fresher Deepak Kumar, “Negativity was spreading around us because we didn’t know how the next few months would be. But the way Jaipuria helped us in this phase by offering various programs online shows their dedication to students. I definitely made the right choice by enrolling here.” But it’s not just the esteemed faculty members of the institute that students get to learn from. They have also had the opportunity to gain from experts from industry, academia, and alumni.

Dr. Devi Singh, distinguished professor at Jaipuria, Former Director, IIM Lucknow joined entrepreneur Mr. Rajat Kotra, Founder Advisor KOUO for a webinar on ‘Covid 19: Economic Implications for The World’. Mr. Rahul Nandi, Talent Acquisition Leader, South Asia, GE Healthcare shared the recruiters’ hiring perspective in a live session that made students aware of attributes expected of future managers.

“These sessions with eminent personalities are giving us an inside view of the industry while being safe at home,” says a student from an upcoming batch of PGDM course 20-22, Avishek Chatterjee.

And that’s mission accomplished for Jaipuria Institute of Management, which has dealt with the lockdown effectively while keeping students’ safety and learning at the forefront.

Graded Autonomy by AICTE for Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow

How recognition of Graded Autonomy by AICTE was won by Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow to become one of the few institutions in the country to bag that achievement

“The three things that motivate creative people – autonomy, mastery, purpose!” wrote American Author Daniel H. Pink. Let’s extrapolate that statement on the broader scale of management educational institutions that have developed mastery in training and are driven by the purpose of shaping future leaders. In his study ‘University autonomy: Improving educational output’, Dutch Economist and researcher Jo Ritzen state, “Universities deliver more competent graduates and higher quality research if they are more autonomous and well-funded.” Back home, Jaipuria, Lucknow has bagged the distinction of being one of the few institutions in the country to be awarded graded autonomy by AICTE. But how was this honor achieved, what does it mean for the B School, and how does it influence its future plans? Dr. Kavita Pathak, Director, Jaipuria, Lucknow shed light on the rarest of achievements for the top B Schools in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

What is Graded Autonomy?

While many looks at AICTE as this almighty governing body looming large over educational institutions, Dr. Pathak reminds us that it has twin responsibilities. The first is to ensure that institutions comply with set norms and secondly to provide them an opportunity to grow and excel. “The graded autonomy is a way of recognizing that institutions independently working towards excellence do not require high levels of monitoring and regulations. Such freedom can encourage healthy competitions amongst institutions to attain gold standards of academic performance. With this recognition we are certainly encouraged to improve our performance and set new standards,” she says responsibly.

How the recognition was won!

Soon after Dr. Pathak’s tenure began in December 2017, the team identified four key areas for interventions, and to develop capacity. Target number one was to get full accreditation (six months duration), which was granted for the flagship PGDM program based on the National Board of Accreditations validation team’s visit last year. MBA in Retail Management and Financial Services programs were re-accredited. “We are among only 13 programs and 10 institutions pan India to achieve full accreditation. Graded autonomy we received was the result of our NBA Accreditation scores being above 675 on 1000 for all our three eligible programs,” she informs.

Some of the other interventions by Jaipuria, Lucknow that went in its favor include:
  • Setting up of the incubation center two years ago. It presently incubates three physical and more than ten virtual businesses.
  • Launch of the fellow program in management.
  • The thought leadership series was appreciated by the NBA accreditation team.
  • External linkages including operational MOUs with IIA, EO Uttar Pradesh, Margdarshak Financial Services Ltd, and Grant Thorton, are leveraged for the benefit of students.
  • A strong community outreach program that has resulted in impactful campaigns with Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation, Department of Road Safety, etc.
  • Robust alumni and industry outreach initiatives along with a strong lineup of client organizations for executive education including National Health Mission, Airport Authority of India, etc.

What happens next?

Keeping up with industry trends like Business Analytics, maintaining one of the best gender ratios for faculty and students, Jaipuria, Lucknow seems to always have an eye on the ball. Brilliant placements, inclusivity profile are a testimony to it. Graded Autonomy recognition offers further confirmation. But how will it affect the future plans for the B School? “We have a clear growth trajectory and we would like to consolidate on what we have built for the next two years. We want to drive capacity creation in the domains of research, digital transformation of teaching and learning, pedagogy based experimentation, robust academic data analytics among others,” she concludes with a roadmap packed with initiatives for the future, asserting that the B School remains fully aware of its responsibility towards all its stakeholders.

Jaipuria Institute of Management moving ahead despite the Covid-19 crisis

For the greater good, Jaipuria Institute of Management moves ahead with innovativeness despite the Covid-19 crisis

Since its inception in 1995, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow has been providing 360-degree learning to its students and supporting them with a robust placement program. The Corona Virus outbreak hasn’t impacted this vision.

The rich heritage of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, is apparent from its extensive alumni base, with innovation and excellence driving new initiatives in the field of business education. Even with the covid-19 crisis, classes at the Institute haven’t been impacted at all. Regular online sessions have helped continue the learning process, using software like Impartus, Zoom, and Webex. Faculty members are available 24/7 through call and WhatsApp, maintaining social distance, yet guiding students ahead in their curriculum.

Speaking on the ongoing challenge Dr. Kavita Pathak, Director of the Institute said, “student development is our key agenda. We are fully aware of our responsibility as a B-School towards all our stakeholders. In the prevailing situation, I would say proactive and innovativeness is the need of the hour and we have proved that in this challenging time. We are engaging with our students through our digital platforms. Every student who chooses us has made a choice, and every parent who sends their ward to us for education places great trust in us. We are committed towards it.”

Such efforts strongly reinforce Jaipuria Lucknow’s recognition as one of the best management institutes in the country. No wonder that Jaipuria Lucknow has been NBA and NAAC ‘A’ accredited and AIU recognized PGDM courses as equivalent to MBA. With 9000+ alumni, 110+ faculty members, and 375+ industry recruiters, this prestigious organization also enjoys the graded autonomy by AICTE, amongst very few B-Schools in the country to get this. Moreover, the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) has reaccredited PGDM programs at Jaipuria Lucknow for six years.

Fostering creativity and collaboration

This management institute in Lucknow has been providing 360-degree learning to its students and supporting them with a robust placement program since its inception. Out of many of its notable initiatives, Uncampus is one. It strives to go beyond campus walls, to create a culture of oneness and excellence across its four locations. The Lucknow, Noida, Jaipur, and Indore campuses all work on a similar vision for creating employability, promoting education through excellence.

Nurturing entrepreneurial mindset

Jaipuria Institute has set up the Innovation and Incubation Centre (IIC), incubating ventures in technology, fintech, education, and other interdisciplinary areas. The IIC organizes regular events like entrepreneurial talk series, workshops, and seminars to develop entrepreneurial ecosystems in the nearby areas. Currently, the institute supports three physical and few virtual incubates such as Eduroomz, Yoyocial, and Tiffilo.

Shaping the flag-bearers of tomorrow

Jaipuria Institute of Management Lucknow further supports its students with the Career Management Centre (CMC). CMC, right from day one, not only assesses a student’s competency and skill gap but also creates an individual development plan for each of them that best fits his/ her career.

Jaipuria has an immaculate record of operating with 100% quality placements. With the world suffering a pandemic, placements for graduating students have been a huge concern. Yet, this year as of now, 91% of students have already been placed with more than 200 companies visiting the campus. These include prominent national and multinational companies from sectors such as research and advisory, manufacturing, FMCG, and retail to mention a few.

The companies recruited students in functional domains like marketing and sales, finance and financial services, human resources, operation, business analytics, retail, and information tech.

Even though the placement process was disrupted due to Covid-19, placement for the remaining students is going on remotely through online interviews. This has helped many students get placed even during this lock-down period. Needless to say, in the coming years, Jaipuria Lucknow will continue to equip its graduates with all the professional and personal skills required to ace in their fields.

The B-school also rewards meritorious students with scholarships up to 50% based on their CAT scores. In order to not delay the future plans of students any further, all admissions-related procedures for MBA/PGDM programs have been shifted online completely. Aspirants are appearing in the admission process through Zoom and Skype.

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur’s PGDM readies new-age professionals with a new-age curriculum- nothing more, nothing less!

The world is feeling the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution all around. Last year, leading Business commentator, Forbes magazine presented a list of skills that future professionals will need to make their mark. Technology skills, creativity, and being global professionals ranked pretty highly on that list. Dr. Prabhat Pankaj, Director, Jaipuria, Jaipur quotes The Future of Work Report by World Economic Forum (WEF) and report on Global Employment Trends for Youth 2020 by International Labor Organization (ILO) to underline the importance of new age skills for global professionals. In that moment you realize that the extremely aware and highly experienced academic being at the helm is the secret to his B School being ahead of the curve. But we probe further into the new age specializations, industry oriented courses, emphasis on technology and how they have had a transformative influence at Jaipuria, Jaipur.
Keeping himself abreast with the reports from the voices of authority in International business, Dr. Pankaj has certainly kept an eye on the ball. He firmly believes that learning needs to transcend beyond classroom and dive into real-life experiences. It’s a strategy Jaipuria, Jaipur adopted quickly through experiential learning, learning-by-doing, and learning beyond classroom quite early. He tells us that it has led to two major shifts in PGDM program. “Firstly, there has been a focus on learning coupled with major re-shuffling of pedagogy. Secondly it has resulted in blending of technology and new-age electives and certificate courses. We have also seen a huge change in student assessment and emphasis on collaborative learning. Can we make our students learn how to learn together in group and how to do peer assessment? These are some of the questions we have tried to address,” he informs.
According to Dr. Pankaj, elective courses are a fantastic opportunity for B-schools to keep up with the fast and dynamic changes in the industry. With dual specialization option, Jaipuria Institute of Management has been enabling students to carve out their own niche. New age open electives related to machine learning, analytics, and international economics give them the competitive edge. The Director tells us that from next year his B School will add tourism, health management, and family business management to the list of electives. “These are fast growing areas not only in terms of their contributions to GDP but also from the point of view of starting a new business. Creative economy is expanding and there will be a lot of focus on B-schools to assimilate new age services as part of electives. As usual Jaipuria Institute of Management will stand ahead of the curve,” he declares strongly.
Many industry experts and academic gurus have spoken of the importance of lateral thinking for future professionals. Integration of Liberal Arts courses into management learning is its secret sauce. Dr. Pankaj reveals that Jaipuria, Jaipur offers Liberal Arts courses in Happiness & Wellbeing, Economic History of India, Alternative Cultural Shifts, Culture and Society, Management Thought Leaders and Perspective, and French Language. He asserts that though traditional specializations are still popular with students, you see a steady shift towards these courses and new age electives like machine learning and analytics. “The offering on Happiness and Wellbeing is unique to Jaipuria, Jaipur as it is delivered based on our own research and expertise. Perhaps, we are one of the pioneers in launching this futuristic course. Students are also looking at AI and Blockchain but more in the form of workshops,” he explains.
And Jaipuria, Jaipur has consistently molded its learning experiences to cater to students’ interests and requirements. Dr. Pankaj tells us that by taking students’ demands into account, the B School is offering them Industry-run-certificate courses by BSE, KPMG, Thomas Assessment, IBM Analytics, TrakInvest, and British Standard Institute (BSI). These courses are as popular as the electives, and go a long way in boosting students’ employability credentials. The placement results speak for themselves. “Given the popularity of these courses we will introduce AI and machine learning courses in time. The new age electives and industry-run-certifications have given us wonderful placements. For the past two years, our students have cracked core finance profiles in companies like Moody’s analytics, Protiviti, S&P Global. We see these results in HR, Marketing, Supply Chain Management; across the board really,” he says proudly.
Dr. Pankaj and his B School have a lot to be proud of as it has stayed quick on the button, transforming with the fast evolving demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and showing the way for others management institutes in the country.
