Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore student Raksha Gupta puts her learning to test and bags attractive placement with Lido Learning, Mumbai

‘You are at a client’s place and he is the last customer that can help you achieve your sales target. You only need Rs. 50000 to achieve your target and the product price is Rs 40000. You can increase the product’s price and sell but the customer is poor. What will you do?’ that was one of the trickiest questions Raksha Gupta faced during her final placement interview with Lido Learning. Thankfully, the Jaipuria Institutue of Management, Indore student had picked Human Resources and Marketing as her specializations. Balancing the human side with the market compulsions was a cakewalk.
The cake in this case was Raksha’s placement with the ed-tech company that has revolutionized classroom education through immersive, online learning experience. The cherry on the cake is that she starts her career as a Business Development Associate at a handsome package of INR 10 LPA. Talking about another important stage of the placement process where she made her mark she says, “My Group Discussion topic was Marketing or Customer satisfaction. What is more important? Again my knowledge of human behavior as well as Marketing came handy.”
“I was very clear about my opinions and kept adding facts to them. At the same time I was listening to others’ points of views too, which is very important,” she explains her modus operandi.
Now that Raksha has got the dream start for her career, she is gearing up to prove herself as a professional. According to her, the guest sessions, classroom discussions, faculty support, and training sessions helped her become the better version of herself. It’s this version, ready for industry 4.0 that she plans to take into her professional role. “I will be required to increase the consumer base of the company. It’s something I have learned in my Sales and Marketing classes and in the live projects at Jaipuria Indore. My understanding of human behavior should help me build connections with customers,” she says with the acumen of a sound professional already.

Vaishnav S Vijay tells how her learning from Jaipuria Jaipur help her to excel at Deloitte

With more than 70 candidates during the placement process, it could have been a nerve-wracking experience. But she decided to stay calm and believe in her preparations. The questions from accounting to taxation to cultural adjustment at Deloitte Vaishnav eloquently defended that she is the right fit for the role of Tax Consultant with the international power-house-Deloitte. The Finance and Marketing student tells us how she hit the jackpot.
“Being the last candidate to be interviewed. The interviewer expected me to be drained and frustrated but I presented myself with confidence and enthusiasm. They were impressed by my quick wit and positive attitude,” says Vaishnav S Vijay, PGDM Batch 2018 – 20 student of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur.
The trickiest one in the final interview was the ‘What is the difference between a good and a bad manager and how would I work under a bad manager?’. Another important question was about my SIP experience when I was asked how I would use it to work with Deloitte. I had done my internship with Aditya Birla Mutual Fund and ‘Perception of investors towards mutual funds’ was my project. It taught me a lot about consumer behavior and how people are inclined towards investments. I realized that selling financial products is tough.
But these are the lessons that will be with me for the lifetime. They will come handy when I start with my role as a Tax Consultant at Deloitte. Jaipuria Institute has given a lot of take-away, my PGDM has given me insights into business operations and industry on the whole. Several industry interaction sessions have helped figure out what I need to do to make my mark in the corporate world.
Another important lesson has been the ability to work in teams to assess problems and process information. The soft skills I gained during the program are going to be vital in my professional journey too. Today I realize that whether it is story writing or role-playing, it enhances creative and innovative thinking. I want to continue that in my work sphere, passion for photography, learning a new language or to play an instrument.”

But what makes her placement more remarkable is the fact that she was chosen from a strong pool of around 90 candidates from the four campuses of the B School. According to her, the placement processes was arduous because, “It lasted for a week right from the aptitude test to two personal interviews – Technical and HR. For the latter they asked me to describe myself, my friends, my parents in one word and give the reason for it,” she says reflecting on the process.
Now that’s a tricky proposition where you can easily overthink your answers. But Bipasha had appeared for the interview rounds with the aim of expressing herself freely. “I had decided to not get weighed down by the pressure. I gave the interview everything I had but without worrying about the results. I think that carefree confidence is what they were looking for,” she claims. Bipasha will now be heading back eastwards as she will be posted in Kolkata for her new role. She will be handling vital responsibilities like mapping the Business Contract versus situation on the ground, making apple to apple comparisons for various contracts, etc. “I feel I am prepared for the tasks that will be given to me because of my training at Jaipuria, Noida. I want to prove myself as a professional and rise up the organization while learning on the job. In the future I also want to start something with girl child education,” she says with her heart set on giving back to the society too.

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow student Pratha Tiwari spells out the skills she will rely on in her career with Reliance Industries

From a Group Discussion on Ayodha verdict to ‘how would you handle a drunk driver at one of our petrol pumps?’ question during the Personal Interview, Pratha Tiwari was put through the wringer during the placement process. But that was expected considering the fact that the job on the line was with one of the biggest industrial houses in India – Reliance Industries. She met every curve ball thrown at her with confidence, poise, and a smile. Pratha takes us through her journey at her B School, which not only prepared her for the grueling placement season but also for her career ahead.
“When you appear for selections with a company like Reliance Petroleum you expect a tough process with intense competition. My placement process lasted two days and included three rounds – Aptitude Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. For the Group Discussion on Ayodhya Verdict, I decided to take the initiative. In fact, I initiated the conversation with a clear thought process. It was that confidence that made me stand out.
In all, 14 students made it to the PI round. We were interviewed by a panel of two and I was asked questions about situations that I am likely to encounter on the field. I was asked questions like how I would address a customer who always complains. I was very honest with the interviewers, which they appreciated. On hindsight, I could have perhaps brought more of my life experiences into my answers, because I have had many of them at Jaipuria, Lucknow.

Pratha Tiwari, PGDM 2018-20, Placed at Reliance Petro

The last two years have been a huge learning curve and I feel like I have been riding a wave of personal and professional growth. The CMC, in particular, has equipped me to handle diverse situations confidently. It held different programs right from our first trimester to the placement season, which have prepared me for the professional challenges I will face in my career. I think I am also confident enough to handle the work pressure.
If I were to give an example; as Area Sales Manager with Reliance Petrochemicals I will have to consistently meet targets and strategically analyze opportunities. I feel convinced that it’s a responsibility I can handle because in my Supply Chain class we discussed a case study about ONGC and its growth. I have also done sales pitches in my Sales and Distribution elective, which will enable me to negotiate better on the field.
These are the kinds of real-world insights you get at Jaipuria, Lucknow. They have shaped my professional aptitude as well as social awareness. The Social Responsibility Committee has been an eye-opener and I have been donating some of my stuff to them. I also try and help children from underprivileged backgrounds. My time at Jaipuria, Lucknow has made me see the world differently and become a socially responsible professional.”

Given the industry trends, the role of a Business Analyst has been hailed to be one of the premier positions in the corporate world for years to come. Shailja Sharma, student of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida has not only bagged the dream role but will start her career with an industry powerhouse like HCL Technologies. She may be heading south to begin her professional life in Chennai, but her career graph is on the up as she is set to reach for the skies. Here’s the story of her flight to the top.
Shalija came through four rounds of the selection process for HCL Technologies with flying colors. It’s the promising role that has her excited about the future. “I will be required to prepare a few important documents like Business Requirement and Functional Requirement documents. I will be bridging the gap between the IT department and the financial clients by delivering products,” she says earnestly.
There is a lot to look forward to for Shailja, but we rewind to the crucial placement process that included a GD round and three rounds of PI. She informs us that more than 40 aspirants appeared for the selection process. “For the GD, we were asked to discuss financial ratios while assessing the credit need for the firm. I was the first one chosen for the interview because I was told I did exceptionally well in the GD since I had examples to support my data,” she says proudly.
As a coordinator for Jaipuria Quiz League, you would think the PI would have been a cakewalk for Shailja. But she reminds us that it was entirely based on the word document given by the company and required three rounds for the final selection. “One of the tricky tasks of the PI was when I was asked to analyze the DSCR ratio based on the amount of loan they had given me. I did well but I wish I had prepared the document they had given us better,” she says candidly.
It was the confidence she had gained through presentations, mock GDs and PIs that saw Shailja through. Getting feedback from her faculty members every step of the way helped her assess her strengths and enhance her skills. “Our B School’s location in a corporate hub gave us a huge advantage. It has helped me start my career with this exciting profile. I want to make my way to top management and then mentor young professionals,” she reveals her plans for the future.

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur’s student Divya Somani decodes her taste of success with Coca Cola

“Personal interviews are an exchange of energy between the interviewer and you,” words of a faculty member were ringing in Divya Somani’s ears while the interviewers from Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Ltd were sitting across the table, trying to evaluate her professional abilities. Although she stumbled with one of the answers during the interview, she maintained her positive energy and calm. When she was picked by one of the world’s most recognizable brands – Coke, she knew it was that composure and poise that tilted the balance in her favor. We probe further and discover her winning attitude says the recruiter.
The placement process for a massive brand like Coke was bound to be competitive. The rigorous process included Group Discussions and multiple rounds of personal interviews. Divya looks back on the day and reveals, “‘How would you use the online platform to increase the sales of the beverages?’ was the GD topic. I stayed patient while hearing out everyone’s ideas and made my points crisply but effective. I think being agreeable was one quality that helped me to make my mark,” she says.
If the Group Discussion session was tricky, the personal interview raised the level of difficulty. Strategies to increase market share, interactions with retailers, were some of the questions Divya was asked. “In fact, they even asked me if I felt like going back to Eastern parts of the country where I come from. I wondered if my being from Jharkhand would come in the way of me getting the placement,” she admits candidly. But nothing was going to stop her on the day as she realized these were just ways to rattle her during the interview, and she rose up to the challenge.
Divya’s sterling performance during the entire process has won her the exciting career profile of Sales Team Leader. Is she prepared for the challenges of professional life? She confidently asserts that her preparations began right from her early days at Jaipuria, Jaipur and haven’t stopped since. “We went through many courses like Sales Management and Business Development to role-play techniques in our PGDM classes. It taught me to negotiate, communicate and pitch the product,” she stresses.
For Divya, real-life exposure to the world of Sales and Marketing offered valuable takeaways that she will rely on in her professional life. First, the live project with Big Bazaar and then the internship with Parag Milk Foods taught her a lot about teamwork and sharpened her professional skills. “My role as a social media handler with MRC Jaipur also taught me a lot. It pushed me to give my best in any situation, which is going to be my strategy at work. In the future, I want to get a Ph.D. and share these learnings with others,” she concludes.
