Bikaner girl – Komal Baid of Jaipuria Jaipur bags Investment Banking placement at Moody’s Analytics

“An investment in knowledge pays best interest,” said Benjamin Franklin. Bikaner girl Komal Baid was clearly aware of that when she moved to Jaipur to pursue her management program at Jaipuria Institute of Management. She also possessed unique clarity about her career goal. She wanted to make her mark in the lucrative world of Finance. After almost two years the investment has paid off, with an exciting career foray into Investment Banking. We talked to her about her placement with Moody’s Analytics and Knowledge services and the road that led to it.
Given her strong focus on the domain, it wasn’t surprising that Komal chose Finance as specialization in her PGDM. According to her, the knowledge she gained at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur held her in good stead, especially during her PI as it was about the technical knowledge. “More than 60 students had given their nominations for placements. For the Group Discussion round I was the only one who backed my arguments with figures. I think that helped me stand out. The Personal Interview tested my knowledge by I stayed calm and enthusiastic throughout it,” she explains.
Komal’s love for numbers is clearly visible. But it’s something that has been honed at her B School, Jaipuria Jaipur. She smiles as she reminisces about her early days on the campus. She remembers that initially it was all about project based work to imbibe team spirit and leadership skills. “But things moved to the next gear soon. There were several platforms like Finance Conclaves, which brought us insights from the corporate world. I don’t think I would have been so well prepared for the placements without this solid preparation” she admits.
Komal believes that the internship plays a huge role in helping management students be prepared for professional challenges. Her internship took her back to Bikaner as she worked with HDFC AMC on ‘Individual Perception and Awareness towards Mutual Funds’ project. “The internship may not have been in core Finance but it certainly increased my interest and zest for the domain. Everything I learned there will be used in my professional role as part of an investment banking team,” she says brimming with confidence.
But confidence isn’t the only attribute Komal has gained during her internship. In fact, she believes her holistic journey at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur has taught her the significance of being a good listener, giving your best efforts, and staying patient for the results. Being the Head of the Student Welfare and Disciplinary Committee at her B School has also equipped her to handle teams and be a strong leader. She will be counting on those skills and experiences as she embarks on her professional journey that has made a promising start.

Kratika’s continuous pursuit for self-improvement gets her placed with Deloitte

“The Universe wrote fiction in us: It’s called Fear,” wrote bohemian poet Christopher Poindexter. It creeps up on the best of us and letting go of that overwhelming feeling is one of the greatest challenges of life. Kratika Sharma believes Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur made her face her fears and come out of her comfort zone. So much so that in a short span of time the self-proclaimed introvert was presenting a paper at International Youth Conference. The PGDM Batch 2018 – 20 student went on to surmount many other challenges to get to her goal. She has been placed with International consultant powerhouse Deloitte in the role of a US Tax Consultant.
Taking us through her story of transformation is not a task for the erstwhile introvert. Kratika starts at the beginning and tells us how she landed her dream job. “When I first came to Jaipuria, Jaipur I had only one goal in mind. I wanted to keep improving and become a better version of myself. At Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur I was given ample opportunities to push myself to places I had never dreamt of. The group projects and presentations helped me get rid of my stage fright and become more confident. There was inspiration all around, especially from Dr. Anurag Singh, our Dean of Academics. He kept raising my curiosity about Finance and kept things interesting.
That was important for me because I have chosen Finance and Marketing as my specializations. Another turning point came during my internship with Coinage Capital Advisors, a sub-broker of Motilal Oswal Financial Services. My supervisor told me a story about how financial literacy can not only make your life better but stop you from making mistakes as well. It is a message that has stayed with me and made me truly understand the value of Finance.
The internship was a stepping stone into the corporate world for me and gave me the opportunity to apply the theoretical concepts I had learned to real life scenarios. It came up during my placement interview and since I had given my best to the internship, I could give them honest and well thought out answers. But one tricky question they asked me was how I would handle three projects given my three different supervisors by the end of the day.
The placement process had lasted whole day and more than 60 students had appeared for it in this on-campus recruitment drive at Jaipuria. We got the results on the same evening and when I heard that I had been placed I was overjoyed. I owe my success to my family as they are the pillars of my strength, as much as my B School for preparing me for the corporate ride.
Recalling my two years at Jaipuria Institute of Management Jaipur, I was a member of social responsibility committee and had coordinated the debate at Abhyudaya 2019. I also participated in the Best out of Waste competition at the same event. At Jaipuria, Jaipur I have learnt that your reputation goes to any place before you do. So before I start working with Deloitte I am preparing myself by understanding more about US Taxation. I did well to bag this prestigious placement but there is always room for improvement.”

After working with Tata Consultancy Services as Cyber Security Analyst for about 2.5 years when Shubhi Sinha decided to go back to academics, she was looking for “creative enhancement”. Little did she know that it was this trait – her creativity, that would help her through the trickiest question in the selection process and bag her placement with industry giant Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL). With an exciting role of Supply Chain Executive.
A strong believer in her talents and hard work, Shubhi asserts that you get what you deserve. That belief encapsulates her experience at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow. When she enrolled for the program, the PGDM Batch 18 – 20 student knew that she was taking the best decision for her career. But it was up to her to make the most out of it. From participating in numerous initiatives to learning from her internship with General Electric – Healthcare, she tells us how she benefited from every experience that has led to her placement today.
Can you describe the selection process for the placement?
For the initial rounds we had to fill out forms to describe our dreams and goals. 82 candidates from various colleges including 21 of us from Jaipuria, Lucknow were called for the Group Discussion round. Finally, 30 of us made it to the Personal Interview Round.
That sounds quite competitive; what made you stand out?
I believe being honest is the best way to impress in interviews. My interviewer asked me if I struggled with any subject and I admitted that it was “Capacity Planning”. Then she went on to ask me a question on the topic where I stayed true to myself. She said she loved my approach.
Clearly you made the right impression; but had you imagined that you would bag one of the highest salary packages?
When I came to Jaipuria, Lucknow I had confidence in my abilities. So I knew that the platforms I got would only enhance them. I realized that I was heading in the right direction from the start. The salary package is one of the ways you get what you deserve.
What were these platforms at Jaipuria, Lucknow that helped you grow?
I was a member of the Media, IT and Public Relations Committee, and a student journalist for Business Standard. Right from Road Safety Design Thinking Project to International Immersion programme in Singapore; I was passionate about active participation in every activity.
Shubhi-Sinha-of-Jaipuria-Institute-of-Management

The learning to fun moments to interview challenges- Nidhi spills her experience at Jaipuria to Colgate Palmolive

During her time at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur, Nidhi Chauhan has come across many industry experts, who left an indelible mark on her mind. But one person who has remained a constant source of inspiration for her is her father, who works with Punjab National Bank. Interestingly that led to a tricky question during her placement interview as she was asked about the big news pertaining to PNB in recent times. “While I talked about the Nirav Modi case, I was not expecting them to ask me about non-performing assets etc. for a marketing profile job,” she says. The PGDM 2018 – 20 student got it right and not only bagged placement with Colgate Palmolive but also walked away with a plum offer.
Here’s Nidhi taking us through her progression graph at her B School, what she did right, and what lies ahead.
“If I had to describe myself I would say I am a confident person, who is self-motivated. I have never been part of any race and I am happier creating my own path. I have always had a clear vision of where I want to go with my career and this placement has paved the way for me. I can’t forget the moment when the official from the company came out and announced my name. It was the time when I felt all my hard work and determination had paid off.
One of the important lessons I have learned at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur is that nothing comes easy. I was given many opportunities like live projects, summer and winter internships, but it was up to me to work hard and prove myself. I tackled all questions from marketing, finance and general knowledge sections with complete composure during my interview. I also think my internship with ITC was extremely useful as it is a FMCG company like Colgate Palmolive. I worked in sales and realized that I thrived on its new challenges every day. That’s the reason I had decided to make my career in FMCG industry.
At Colgate Palmolive I will be working as a Customer Development Officer. I need to understand the basics of the business and get insights into the market. I have to fall back on my learning to ensure that my team and I can generate leads and get business for my company.
My time at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur in many ways has been a preparation for this time. Right from becoming the Miss Fresher of our batch to participating in events like Abhyudaya, I have been growing with every experience I have had. There have been fun moments too. I can admit this now that I would turn off the projector during lectures to break the flow. We have made so many fun memories in classrooms, student lounge; I am going to miss it all.”

Nishant’s colorful story of his transformational from day one at Jaipuria to Asian paints

Nishant Kumar identifies himself as a storyteller. It was a skill he used to good effect during his placement interview with Asian Paints. “I answered the questions in a storytelling manner, which made me stand out from the rest of the candidates. For every situational question I put forth my learning during the internship and live projects,” he shares his secret. The strategy worked for the PGDM Batch 2018 – 20 student of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida. He has been placed as a Sales Officer with the market leader Asian Paints. As he gets ready to soar into the corporate skies, we asked the storyteller to take us through his own story from his first day on the campus to the placement day.
“When I enrolled with Jaipuria, Noida I had never imagined that I would be placed with a company like Asian Paints. My goal was to keep adding value to my credentials so that after completing my program I would be ready for professional challenges. I never missed any classes and focused on academics. I also received a lot of support from my batch mates and seniors, which I value a lot today.
One thing Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida does is that it focuses on the mantra ‘Believe In Yourself’. Those three magic words lifted my spirits when I was down and made me a more confident person. I actively participated in every opportunity I got and was the Class Representative twice. I managed all IT facilities and didn’t walk away from taking the initiative. Only when you try something new, you learn something new.
My first live project with Kottaram Agro Foods was the next step towards being a professional. It gave me the high of working in a real-life situation as I was responsible for the sales of Soulful Raggi bites at Big Bazaar in Delhi. My second live project was with Bajaj Consumer Care limited. I handled several responsibilities during the project, and it helped me make up my mind about a career in Sales.
The internship with Future Consumer Limited in Chandigarh was another huge experience and made me think like a professional. During the internship, I added more than 30 retailers in the distribution channel. The experience polished my Sales skills but also made me realize the value of time management when you are on the field. I was able to bring attention to my internship learnings during my placement interview.
Now here’s the thing – in my first year I got rejected for SIP with Asian Paints after the group discussion stage. So when I learned that I had the opportunity for placement with them, I used all my past disappointment as a motivation. The interviewers knew that I had experience with sales products that are disposable. They quizzed me about a sales pitch for durable products. That was a tricky question but I stayed calm and answered confidently.
I remember the day and time when my friend informed me that I had bagged the placement. It was a moment of shock followed by excitement and euphoria. I had proven myself, and now I am ready to prove myself in my career.”
