For Madhurima, PGDM student of Jaipuria, Lucknow last two years leading up to her placement with Ujjivan Finance have been a serendipitous journey. Right from finding out about Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow to her first day as a professional, which happens to be her mother’s birthday, it’s been a series of exciting moments for her. Today as she is about to set off on her journey as a professional she traces her steps back to the personal and career transforming two years of her life.
How it all began?
A BCA graduate, Madhurima knew that she had to up her game to make it into the corporate world. Jaipuria, Lucknow’s reputation reached her through her seniors and she decided to take the plunge. “I could see myself fit into a few roles after I completed by PGDM – FS. I was particularly interested in finance research and marketing, and the institute groomed me. I have to say the last two years have been life changing,” she says thoughtfully.
Industry-focused training does the trick
According to Madhurima, one of the major highlights of studying at the institute is that it emphasizes on giving students a peek into the corporate world. She mentions industry expert sessions, visits, and of course the SIP to make her point. “I did my SIP with First Call India Equity Advisors and it was such a huge learning experience for me. I had to do equity research of 10 FMCG companies, which I thrived on,” she adds confidently.
Placement preparation
Madhurima shows immense gratitude towards her institute and its placement cell for helping her with every aspect of placement. She recounts the special placement prep as she says, “We were encouraged to read Economic times. Right from public speaking skills to body language; everything was taught. I think my placement interview was quite stressful, but I stayed calm through it. The composure and clarity was because of the preparation I had.”
Life as a Professional
While Madhurima admits that she has found her dream placement, she quickly adds that being able to enhance her skills at the institute meant the world to her. And now she steps out into the real corporate world filled with confidence. “I will be working as a Compliance Officer (risk) with the company. I have to make sure everything is in keeping with RBI’s policies, and pay attention to every detail that can put my company`s future at risk,” she says.
Gripped with nostalgia
As Madhurima is about to bid goodbye to her beloved campus, she is filled with emotions. She knows she is going to miss sitting in classrooms, her classmates and teachers. “I will always have fond memories of this place. It wasn’t an easy ride but it was needed. One thing I would like to tell my juniors is that you should listen to everyone but finally only you can decide what works for you and what doesn’t. Just believe in yourself and go for it,” she ends on a high note.
