Dr. Prerna Jain is a calming influence in more ways than one at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur. Deeply spiritual in her outlook, Dr. Jain’s composed exterior comes from her practice of meditation. It brings a certain balance to her teaching methods, very critical in a subject like Economics, which she teaches at Jaipuria Jaipur.
“I take courses like Managerial Economics, Macro Economics and International Economics at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur. My teaching philosophy revolves around creating a comfortable learning environment based on respect. I strongly believe that individuals are unique, and therefore attention, guidance and mentoring are also given as per individual levels and requirement.”
Dr. Prerna Jain has a special place in Jaipuria Jaipur as one of its founder faculty members. Ever since the inception of Jaipuria Jaipur in 2006, she has handled various portfolios like Chairperson-Student Affairs, Chairperson-Examinations and PGDM Chairperson. Over and above her academic commitments, Dr. Jain has the added responsibility as the Editor of Jaipuria Jaipur’s Newsletter, ‘Insight’. She is also the Co-Chairperson- Student Welfare, and is actively involved in organising the forthcoming ‘International Conference on Creating a Sustainable Business – Managerial Implications and Challenges’.
“This will be a great opportunity for students of Jaipuria Institute of Management to hear and learn from the stalwarts in academia and industry. It is bound to be an excellent exposure to strategies and marketing practices, and will come very handy when they move into their respective industries. I believe this event will go a long way in tuning Jaipuria Jaipur students to the industry requirements today.”
The smallest gestures of gratefulness on the part of her students or alumni of Jaipuria Jaipur touch Dr. Prerna. It only makes her work with renewed vigour. She is constantly on the lookout for new pedagogical tools with which she can infuse life into her classes.
“To encourage active listening, I give my students a list of important questions well in advance, so that they can come prepared to discuss and debate. Students are selected on a random basis to summarise key points from previous lectures. I employ a lot of exercises, visual presentations and discussions to stimulate class participation. I enjoy being up-to-date with the latest information; keeping in touch with global issues and discussing them in the classrooms of Jaipuria Jaipur helps in involving and engaging students.”
As a message for her students at Jaipuria Jaipur, Dr. Prerna chooses the words of Thomas D. Willhite.
‘Let your life mean something. Become an inspiration to others so that they may try to do more and to become more than they are today.’
