“My fundamentals of business management were shaped at Jaipuria, Noida. The basics of Marketing and Business always remain the same; they just morph into different forms with time,” says Nitin Joshi, alum, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida and now Senior Manager, Marketing – Avis. The institute allowed him to explore and express himself exactly the way he wanted. And that to him is one of the main reasons he has managed to chalk out his own path in the corporate world.
The Non-conformist
In his career that started with Bennett Coleman, Nitin has explored different industry sectors and worked with names like India Mart, Kingdom of Dreams, Myles Cars and now Avis. He admits that switching industries and brands might not send out the right signals to recruiters, but he doesn’t conform to such notions. “I have been fortunate to work with some of the leading brands in their respective industries. It helped me broaden my horizons on the subject as dynamics differ,” he states.
Mantras for future managers
B School graduates enter the corporate world with dreams in their eyes and the drive to prove themselves. Nitin, a seasoned professional has practical advice for them. “Forget your inhibitions and avoid being judgmental or building stereotypes about peers and work,” he says.
Talking about his own learning experiences as a professional he adds, “Read, write, recite and repeat the topics of your interest. Cross functionality networking within an organization helps. Importantly, hold an opinion on things that matter to you.”
Marketing – then and now
As an experienced marketing professional, Nitin is well placed to throw light on the changes in the field and the impact of Social Media, digital marketing today. “Digital marketing is to brands what stand-up comedy is to comedians; you get instant feedback. Traditional media has its advantages and the two can complement each other if used smartly,” is his take on the matter.
Nitin believed that this was the field he would excel in and his hunch turned out to be right. Today his biggest reward as a professional is to be able to do what he loves.
Almost a decade since Jaipuria
Nitin is a student of the 2007 batch at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida and recounts debates, presentations, sports, interaction with Industry mavericks as his confidence builders. His time at the institute has been instrumental in his journey. “It’s a great place to build a strong foundation as a management professional. It has grown manifold in the past years and is moving in the right direction,” he ends on a note that fits perfectly with his own career graph too.
