The Founding class graduate- Anshumal Dikshit. His 20 years. 5 industries. 1 dream project.

When you meet the 1997 PGDM alumni Mr. Anshumal Dikshit, it takes very little time to realize the secret behind all that success- the man is a perfect balance of grace and wisdom. Anshumal Dikshit has spent 20 years in the industry and interestingly, across five major sectors. He has tasted the waters of Manufacturing, Media, Banking, IT and Hospitality before he embarked on building his own successful venture as a veteran HR consultant. Today, Anshumal Dikshit runs one of the leading HR consulting agencies of North India- the HR Mantra Consulting and heads the office as its Principal Consultant.
1997 had seen Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow churn out its founding class- a group full of young, dynamic and ambitious professionals who are now creating wonders across the world. The young Lucknow boy Anshumal had stepped out of the campus with a placement offer from Sona Koyo Steering Systems Limited. Having spent couple of years in the Auto component manufacturing industry, he entered the eFunds world with HR Lead and soon shifted to Banking with Citi Group. Where others saw stumbling blocks, Anshumal Dikshit saw steppingstones. He spent considerable tenures across industries, bagging promotions, taking significant hikes, changing profiles to profiles and all that while, he went on learning and gathering valuable experience throughout his journey.

In 2007 Anshumal had an offer from the Oberoi Group. A big task where he had to head the 80 years old group’s Corporate Learning and OD function. “I enjoyed the years immensely there. It was a new sector for me and there was learning at every bend and turn of the road,” remarks Anshumal as he looks back at the years traversed. And then another short stint with Videocon as its Head HR in the Manufacturing unit and then finally Patni Computer Systems happened.
The man who has jumped from one industry to another with an insatiable hunger to learn and experiment new things finally took a pause at Patni for five years. His work earned him great many accolades and praises alongside colleagues’ infinite encouraging words. Atul Kulshreshtha, Vice President Business Services at Capgemini himself says- “I have been twice lucky to have Anshumal as my HR Leader once at IGATE/PATNI and earlier at eFunds/FIS.” Needless to say, experience backed with an endless drive to learn has no substitution, whatsoever.
And just when you will think Anshumal Dikshit has arrived in life, he would surprise you with more stunts in his portfolio. He left Patni, and joined Arvato, headquartered in Gutersloh, Germany. In his words- “As a Country Head for HR, Arvato was a unique opportunity that provided me a strategic direction to the enterprise and it helped me create capability for the next league.” And finally, with all the experience under his belt- he ventured out.
In 2016, Anshumal Dikshit laid down his 20 years plan- HR Mantra Consulting, the vague dream that he had once dreamt inside the classroom of Jaipuria Institute of Management. “I had chosen my specialization with a lot of clarity in my mind but then, to dream is one thing and to execute the dreams- another,” says the charming, handsome and successful alumni of Class 1997. Bottom line- “You got to know when you are ready. Everyone wants to start up today but Experience, you need it even today. The rules are still the same, yes, the games have definitely changed,” concludes Anshumal Dikshit with a broad smile on his face.

Alumni Speak Jaipuria Lucknow

From a class in HR to Head-HR… a winning career

Without actually meaning to, Anshumal Dikshit has made it his business to challenge the norms of the times he lives in. A die-hard lakhnavi, instead of heading out for a top-notch B-school outside, Anshumal stuck around in Lucknow, choosing to be a part of the first batch of an unheard of Management Institute. 17 years down the line, that B-school – Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow – has grown to become one of the best B-schools in North India, and Anshumal Dikshit, Head of Human Resources, iGate Patni, is one of the shakers-and-movers of the Indian IT Industry.
After having majored in Psychology from St Francis College, and then earning his Masters in Public Administration from Lucknow University, Anshumal, chose to specialise in HR from Jaipuria, Lucknow.
“In those days, HR was seen in isolation from the main line of business. It was looked upon as a soft area as opposed to Finance, Operations or Marketing. Infact, I was the only male in HR stream, of my batch in Jaipuria Lucknow. With time though, the demands in an organisation from its HR department has grown manifold, and today, HR is perceived as a business partner, and is pretty much gender agnostic.”
Today, brand-Jaipuria, Lucknow pulls the biggest of recruiters; but back in 1996, you could not be sure. So it was quite a surprise when Anshuman actually ended up with three offers, through the campus placement of Jaipuria Lucknow. Yet again, he opted for the path less trodden.
“Of the three offers, Sona Koyo – which was not as big then – was not my top-priority.  But after a detailed discussion with faculty members of Jaipuria, Lucknow I chose the Assistant Manager’s profile offered to me by Sona Koyo. The logic was that, a compact organisation on the growth path would be a better option as compared to a larger organisation where you are more likely to get lost.”
It is generally perceived that as a HR practitioner, you’ll do well to catch hold of a fast growing industry, start building on your contacts, and every couple of years keep hopping jobs – with hikes in salary and designation – within your chosen industry.
Not for Anshumal though.
“Out of choice, I have worked across various industries. I started out with Manufacturing; managing labour work-force and getting an idea of industrial relations. Learning about personnel and HR in a factory environment gives you a distinct edge. It is a practical experience, which cannot be learnt later on, as your career progresses. Over the years I managed HR in banking, with the Citigroup;in hospitality as AVP, HR with the Oberoi group; and in the Media, with Business Standard. Media particularly was a very difficult job; managing journalists especially. But the learning was immense. The aim was of managing people across different industries, with organisations that are in the growth phase. As AVP, Corporate Learning and Development at the Oberoi Group. I was able to implement some good organisational initiatives for the group, before I really ventured out into IT county.”
Over the years, Anshumal has been a great asset in building brand-Jaipuria Lucknow.
“Thanks to the regular alumni meets, facebook and linkedIn, a lot of us are in constant touch. While it’s always nice to go back to Jaipuria, Lucknow, I do miss the small tea-stall which was there within the institute during our times. It has now been converted into a bigger and better canteen.”

Investing Time In My Dreams…

As I leave for the hostel at the end of the college day, I see groups of students near the canteen, the amphitheatre, near the parking lot, playing basketball listening to music, rushing to complete assignments. But whenever I have some free time I work on the campus company called Illuminati. We started with this club in my first year and as our first assignment we made T Shirts for the school which was a big success. It was amazing to see the T shirts flying off the table in our stall. From there, we ten members of the club have moved on to a lot of cool stuff. Our current assignment is making t-shirts for a pet shop. I won’t name the pet shop, but this is like the big break Illuminati was looking for. Also we (myself and Natasha Verma) are working on an advertisement concept for them. I am really excited and am looking forward to working on this.
Reflecting back, I have traveled the length and breadth of India, as my Father is working in the Indian Air Force. I have stayed in Kashmir, Delhi, Punjab( Amiritsar), Chennai, Agra and Rajasthan. I never really thought of pursuing PGDM till my graduation After getting through PGDM in Jaipuria-Noida things just started to happen on their own. Luckily there was no conflict with my choice of becoming an entrepreneur or pursuing my PGDM. It was my father’s job which gave me the inspiration to do these things. I have lots of ideas that I want to work on and implement. Before Illuminati was formed, Jaipuria Noida, gave us the opportunity to visit and work at Hometown and worked with their sales Manager for fifteen days. From there I got these ideas, how to set up a business, what it takes to start and then we got inspired and started Illuminati. One person I would like to mention is Ravi Ranjan sir (Manager Placement) who helped us give shape to Illuminati.
I am looking forward to establishing Illuminati in the coming years. I want to nurture this dream and make it grow. I have a lot of ideas and any free time I get, is not enough free time. Jaipuria Noida is arming me with information, education and new ideas. For me, right now, my present is golden, and am looking forward to my future!

Romil Jain, alumnus of Jaipuria Noida, leads war on plastic!

Jaipuria Institute of Management Noida fired the first shot in its war on plastic by holding a bag making competition with the event judged by Jaipuria Noida graduate Romil Jain, sponsor of the event and Director of Meenakshi International which has developed an oxo-biodegradable plastic product. At the heart of the plastic problem is the ever-present plastic bag – hence the student’s alternative bag-making contest held last month at Jaipuria Noida, an event backed by the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN). Who better to judge the competition than a Jaipuria alumnus, a man whose company has developed a rapidly biodegradable plastic alternative? Romil Jain said he looked for creativity, innovation, long-term commitment to their creation and presentation when judging the students efforts.
Asked how he came up with the oxo-biodegradable plastic product, he said they found plastics were a major concern when it comes to products adversely affecting the planet and worked with Wells Plastics UK, to come up with a creative alternative.
They then presented it to the European industry, received a positive response and then looked at the potential in the Indian market for such creative solutions in the area of plastic. He then approached students, alumni and faculty at Jaipuria Institute of Management Noida, found the students were really enthusiastic and excited about bringing about a change in the way we look at plastics and the product has grown from there.
Asked about the inspiration behind the product, Romil, the first Jaipuria student to go for a student exchange to Finland, cited friends he met abroad, companies he worked with there, his parents and teachers – “So this product is the result of that student exchange program!”
The non-profit National Entrepreneurship Network was established in 2003 with a mission to create and support high-growth entrepreneurs, driving job creation and economic growth in India.
NEN has more than 70,000 members in 30 cities and gives support to start-ups and early-stage entrepreneurs through entrepreneurship education, access to mentors and experts, fast-track access to incubation and funding and learning tools and materials. It is also partnered with more than 470 top-tier academic institutes in India to help them develop entrepreneurship ecosystems on campus, which develop and support new and future entrepreneurs.

Jaipuria Noida alumnus Romil Jain credits alma mater for his success

Jaipuria Institute of Management Noida alumnus Romil Jain, entrepreneur and Director of Meenakshi International, visited his alma mater as a guest lecturer, to speak on plastics and judge the initial action in the institute’s war on plastics. Jain, whose company has developed an oxo-biodegradable plastic product, said he found plastics were a major concern when it comes to products adversely affecting the planet and worked with Wells Plastics UK, to come up with a creative alternative. Plastic is a major industry in India, he said, pointing to the Plastindia 2012 Eighth International Exhibition and conference to be held in New Delhi February 1-6.
In India, he said, plastic consumption has increased from 7.5 million tonnes to 15 million tonnes and the country will become the third largest consumer of plastic in the future. Consumption of plastic has grown and the concerns center around the disposing of the product, he said, but the industry is coming up with new technology to help people and to use plastic in a better way without harming life on the planet and jeopardizing society.
Speaking on life out in the business world, Jain said it is a matter of survival of the fittest. Tough competition exists he told students and if practical knowledge is not present, a student will suffer as he will switch jobs and will not be able to learn anything.
He stressed the need for practical knowledge but also said self evaluation is important, noting everybody works individually and a person should have good knowledge and personality to succeed in the long run.
Jain said his working motto is “plan not for today but for tomorrow” and told the students to never be afraid of hurdles – every problem has a solution.
“Just believe in your own self and be positive,” he said.
As for his success, he gave credit to the Jaipuria Noida faculty, his colleagues, the college environment and awesome opportunities which he received. As the first student to go for an exchange program in Finland he thanked Dr. J.D Singh, Director of Jaipuria, for making the impossible possible.

Punarsangam: Jaipuria Institute of Management all campus alumni meet

Jaipuria Noida was decorated grandly. Every light shone bright and the welcome committee were busy with registrations, which grew by the minute after the initial flood of 120 confirmations.
The meet was started by welcoming the Guests and the Alumni with flower, tilak, lighting of lamp & recitation of vandana. It was followed by a welcome speech by Mr. Shreevats Jaipuria –Executive Director ,who welcomed all & said that, “the greatest asset of any institute is it’s people – the students, the faculty, the staff the administration and the Alumnus.” Dr. J D Singh –Director General, in his welcome note said that “the main aim of the Meet is to promote and foster interaction amongst the Alumni, Faculty and present Students and to engage with our Alma Mater in order to raise the college at different levels and also to help fellow Alumni through various initiatives.” Hon’ble Sharad Jaipuria -Chairman of Jaipuria Institute of Management were very happy with the way the event flowed so seamlessly from one element to the next.
The Punarsangam evening of December 10, 2011 was a success . “Punarsangam was the first ever all campus alumni meet of all Jaipuria institutes. I must credit the student organizers for putting up such a grand show at such short notice. I could see the smiles and the joy on our alumni’s faces as they met again. It is so nice that they are all doing well in their careers and are good human beings. Jaipuria’s ideals are upheld, and that is a feather in our caps,” said Mr. Sharad Jaipuria, Chairman of Jaipuria Institute of Management. The event glittered with speeches, games & fun by the Alumni who shared their experiences. They were all very nostalgic about the years that they spent in the college. All were unanimous in echoing their feelings that college has played a very vital role in shaping their destiny.
Faculty organizer, Prof. Poonam Sharma, said, “This was the first alumni meet of the NCR Chapter where students from all the campuses of Jaipuria Institute of Management met, interacted and networked with each other. This also allowed the faculty to interact with alumni from all four campuses.” We wanted to re-establish connection of other alumni with the institute – for example, a Jaipuria Indore alumni working inDelhiwould not be able to attend the Alumni Meet atIndore, but could attend a nearby Jaipuria alumni meet.”
The Jaipuria alumni continue to be in touch with their Alma Mater via guest lectures, placements, contributing articles to the college magazines and judging various Jaipuria Institute’s events. Their institute gives them recognition and a chance to interact with current students.
To attend the 10 December meet, alumni worked around their prior commitments and came in huge numbers. “We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. I think Jaipuria should have many more such events so we can meet our batch mates and see what the current students are capable of & guide them,” said an enthusiastic Alum. “We never had classical dancers in our class. Both Sneha and Bytris are such skilful dancers with effortless grace.” One thing is a given: all Jaipuria students are constant learners. They know that a formal qualification is the doorway to more knowledge.
“The other cultural events were a treat too which included skits, dance, acting, & a band performance by ‘Lafz-e-Delhi’ !” another Alum quips.
Education needs to be all round. Jaipuria Institute’s intention of inculcating values of “commitment, excellence and quality” has successfully impacted its alumni. A good manager is someone whose interests go beyond single minded focus on a career. Jaipuria Noida’s Punarsangam proved just that.
