Jaipuria Noida Placement Update

Isha Misra tells us about the 9 rounds of placement process that helped her get her dream job with Hyundai Motors.

I am currently working with Hyundai MOBIS (Hyundai Motors Group) as a Management Trainee (Marketing) – Parts Division. My job description basically consists of handling all the communications and preparing them from time to time. This includes preparing all Report Approvals, Internal Communications, Circulars, the Quarterly Newsletter, etc. I also  handle the installation and follow-up for display stands, display kit dispatches, the leaflet dispatch every quarter, design and photo shoots related to those leaflets, conducting surveys every quarter on challenging topics and the vendor selection for the designing of the newsletter & leaflets. Finally,  data extraction from our AMOS and DPOS software also falls to me.. Even though it sounds like a lot, this is just a brief outline of my job profile.
The placement process for this company was obviously quite rigorous and consisted of 9 rounds. The first round was a technical interview and questions were asked from the spheres of marketing, strategic marketing, the automobile industry and about the recently held auto expo. The second round was another technical round conducted by another marketing head of the company. The third was an HR round in which questions were asked in order to judge my ability to fit into the company’s culture. Then there were a string of technical rounds with other department heads and a final HR confirmation round through a  video conference with the GM (HR) of the Chennai office.
With so many rounds and so much pressure, no wonder that I needed support and guidance. In that, the faculty at Jaipuria Noida  came through for me and were very supportive throughout the placement month. They gave us interview questions and guided us by arranging crucial mock placement sessions whenever a company visit was due.
The 2 years in Jaipuria Noida have been a joy ride with all the backing that I’ve got from the  faculty and placement coordinators. I have learnt and grown a lot, both professionally and personally, in these years. The whole experience was intense and will  certainly helped me a lot in my professional life.

An Insight on Consumer Behaviour

As a part of Jaipuria Institute of Management’s strong industry interface programme, Mr. Vishal Khanna, Marketing Manager at Reliance Infocom, shared his expert knowledge of consumer behaviour with students and faculty at the Jaipuria Noida campus. The event was set in the backdrop of the recent placement of two interns from Jaipuria Noida with Reliance Infocom for the summer training programme.
Showing keen insight into the consumer’s decision-making process, Mr. Khanna took the future managers from Jaipuria Noida through the entire consumer behaviour process. This included how a consumer decides onproduct specifications, how he searches for suppliers, seeks proposal solicitation, carries out selection and finally, carries out post-purchase evaluation.
Mr. Khanna made his talk interesting by sharing many real life situations faced by him and his company with the students of Jaipuria Noida. “The actual study of consumer behaviour begins only when the consumer seeks proposal solicitation. With time, consumer behaviour has become a very complex process that is highly researched, and is critical for the success of a product and a company,” he said.
In an interactive way, Mr. Khanna discussed a number of case studies with the youngsters of Jaipuria Noida, which showed how consumer behaviour varied from department to department even within the same organisation.
“There are a number of reasons for this. Some of these are: difference in perceptions of departments involved, conflict – technical versus commercial, cost reduction versusincreasing efficiency – which is pretty much Finance versus HR. The role of individuals also has a part to play in consumer behaviour.”
Mr. Khanna’s talk covered all aspects of consumer behaviour, from the reasons behind different buying behaviour for same product, to challenges faced in selling products to the corporate buyer as well as the retail customer. He brought out various examples of how companies try to overcome these challenges, particularly through communications aimed at the target consumer. Step by step, Mr. Khanna took the aspiring managers at Jaipuria Noida through the process of the creation and implementation of a ‘Brand Recall Strategy.’
“By the time you pass out from Jaipuria Noida, you will know that the one who knows his consumer, and has studied the nature and requirements of his consumer well, is most likely to win the deal,” concluded Mr. Vishal Khanna, Marketing Manager, Reliance Infocom.
“I feel absolutely in touch with the industry now,” said Mohammed of the 2011-13 batch of Jaipuria Noida. “Thanks to our faculty at Jaipuria, we knew most of the terminology used by Mr. Vishal Khanna, and were able to make sense of what he was saying. It was great to learn from the experience of such a senior manager at Reliance Infocom.”
With two of their peers placed with Reliance Infocom this year for summer internships and the valuable industry interface with Mr. Vishal Khanna, students of Jaipuria Noida feel that this is just the beginning of a long-term relationship between Jaipuria Noida and Reliance Infocom.

Jaipuria Noida’s 6th Annual Convocation: A memorable occasion

Chief Guest at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, Mr. Sachit Jain, Executive Director Vardhman Textiles Ltd and Management Author delivered the convocation address to the enthusiastic gathering.
Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida hosted their Sixth Annual Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 for graduating students of PGDM, PGDM Services and PGDM Marketing of 2010-12 batches. The convocation was formally inaugurated with the ceremonial lightening of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana.
Dr. J.D. Singh, Director General, Jaipuria, Noida, in his welcome address, gave the students two very valuable tips. “Have hunger to leave a mark in this world. Do something that others haven’t done before. Innovate. Dare to disagree if you want to be different. Being different is easy. Being distinctive is not. Be both.”
Dr. Singh’s second tip was, “Be happy. Have a sense of humour. Love people, smile with them, and enable them to laugh from within. Ultimately, it is not the strategy, but the people who matter.”
Mr. Sachit Jain’s speech, loaded with humour, began with an interesting observation right after he gave awards to deserving students.
The Chairman’s Gold Medal for PGDM went to Ms. Akansha Chaturvedi and the Vice Chairperson’s Silver Medal to Ms. Mehal Rakhra. The Gold Medal PGDM (Services) was awarded to Ms. Kavita Gupta and Silver Medal to Ms. Akansha Bhoobna. For PGDM (Marketing), The Gold Medalist was Mr. Prakash Chaubey and Vice Chair Person’s Silver Medalist, Mr. Avinash Raj. The Gold Medal for Best Woman Student, 2010 – 2012 went to Ms. Akanksha Chaturvedi.
“The female of the species is certainly deadlier than the male. They took away all the awards, except for one course,” Jain began. Laughter followed.
“You are starting out in life,” he said. “Sometimes it is good to listen to people who have traversed these paths before you. You can learn from them by not making their mistakes. Make your own.”
According to Mr. Sachit Jain, there were three kinds of people. Those who used their hands to work, those who used their brains and those who used their hearts. It is a good idea to be able to use all three if you want to succeed, Mr. Jain suggested.
“One sentence which Dr. J. D. Singh used, ‘Dare to disagree,’ he said. I admire that sentence very much. Also learn how to disagree. If you disagree in the wrong way, you’ve had it,” Jain spoke from the heart.
It was an honour for the students who received their diplomas from Shri Sharad Jaipuria, Chairman, Board of Governors, Jaipuria Institute of Management.
Dr. Anup K. Singh, Director, Jaipuria Noida in his Annual Report, said, “This year has been distinctive for Jaipuria, Noida. The B-School received an A Grade accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, a body of UGC. Our student centric culture got us A +++ by Business India, AAA by Business and Management Chronicle and Jaipuria Noida is among the top 50 B-Schools by MBA Universe. “
In his vote of thanks, Mr. Shreevats Jaipuria addressed the students as the soul of Jaipuria, Noida. They were stepping out with dreams for a future full of ‘success, happiness and peace’. He said that the Institute has been instrumental in meeting the needs of the nation with a pool of qualified corporate professionals.

Alumni Speak Jaipuria Noida

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, Alumni Executive Body Meet, Held Outside The College Campus Becomes A Big Hit.

Summary: Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida has for the first time, organized its alumni executive body meet, outside the college campus. Attendance at the meeting was very inspiring and members liked the idea of moving out of the campus every now and then. Efforts are on to find ways to generate more alumni fund and increase the level of interaction among the members.
April 14, 2012 has become a milestone in the Alumni saga of Jaipuria Noida. Earlier also alumni have been interacting, sharing ideas and working together to widen their network, but that was confined to the college campus. But not anymore, as the third executive body meeting of the alumni association grew out of the campus and was held at Country Inn, a hotel in Vaishali, Noida.
“I have been discussing with other alumni members, and they all were of the opinion that we should try and move out of the campus every now and then, to keep an element of surprise. Going by the positive response, we plan to follow this trend in future,” says Prakarsh, an alumnus and one of the organizers.“We managed to break the monotony of same place every time, andthis helped infused new enthusiasm in the whole event, Also, we may even start holding meetings outside the Delhi-NCR,” adds Prakash.
Attendance at the meeting was good and all the credit goes to the intelligent planning of the organizers. The venue being close to metro station, helped many to avoid the heavy traffic of Noida, and it was rather easy for participants to take out time on Saturday. “Organizers remain in constant touch with all the alumni, and everyone’s comfort is kept in mind before finalizing date and venue,” says Prakarsh. At present, there are 22 members in the executive body, and there are plans to increase the number soon. Members include students from all the past batches. Students’ representatives from the present batches are also offered membership, so that they get to understand the working of the association and when they pass out, they will be more familiar and attached to the whole system. This helps bridge thecommunication gap between present and past students as they get to interact regularly at one platform.
Apart from the venue change, there were many first, as many new ideas were floated by the members.“We all have come up with practical ideas to generate more alumni funds and devise ways to increase the level of interaction among the members. We are also inventing methods to increase interaction between alumni and all the present students of the institute, so that students get help of their seniors and fetch suitable placements and assignments,” says Prabhashkumar, another founding member of the association.
Efforts are being made to develop the whole concept in such a way that everyone associated with it gains in the long run. “We all are deeply attached to Jaipuria Noida, and most of the alumni are doing excellent job in their chosen fields. If we all get together then think of the opportunities we bring to the table, and this is available to everyone associated with Jaipuria,” says Rohit Kumar, another alumnus who passed out two years back.
The meet ended with a delicious buffet and a resolve to meet regularly.

Jaipuria-Noida Taught Me That Hard Work Counts But Smart Work Pays

I joined Jaipuria-Noida after three years of work experience at Ebix which is based in Atlanta. My job profile was that of a data quality analyst and I had to handle and audit data. Ebix, Noida, was where I learnt the nuances of managing myself in the corporate world. I learnt that even though hard work is what counts, it is smart work that pays. It was here that I learnt the importance of building up personal relationships with everyone around me.

I graduated in Electronic and Communications Engineering from Agra. I joined Jaipuria-Noida, because this was the only institute which provided specialization in Operations. The things I learnt at Ebix greatly helped me at Jaipuria-Noida. I was able to maintain my relationships with the members of my study groups. I believe that having had a first-hand experience of the corporate world, I was able to apply my learning in a realistic manner. This is something that freshers have a problem with. I was able to represent myself in a better manner at Jaipuria, thanks to my applicative skills.

I will be taking up Operation Skills and Total Quality Management next year because I wish to expand my knowledge in the field. I am doing my majors in Operations and Marketing. I believe that Ebix and Jaipuria-Noida are similar in that both of them are people-centric. Ebix is extremely employee-centric and Jaipuria, student-centric. Thanks to being at Jaipuria-Noida, I have been able to considerably expand my knowledge which has greatly strengthened my corporate knowledge as well.’

Jaipuria Noida: An Architectural Marvel Of Integration And Harmonization For Better Education.

You become what your surroundings are. Learning is a constant process and it happens all the time. “This has been the guiding principle behind the establishment of Jaipuria Noida and it gets reflected in every aspect of the institution, from architecture to curriculum,” says Dr. J.D. Singh, Director General of Jaipuria Noida. “When we are in harmony with the surroundings then everything integrates and this marriage of elements brings out desired result–all round development that eclipses the best in the world,” adds Dr. Singh.

A student during the course spends considerable amount of time on the campus. It has been scientifically proved that one’s ability and interest to absorb and retain information is very much affected by the surroundings, ambience, atmosphere and space available. “We have always believed that in the campus there should be freedom to breathe, freedom to think, freedom to interact,” highlights Dr. Singh while explaining the thoughts that went into designing the architecture and finalizing the curriculum.

Even before you enter the premises of Jaipuria Noida, you get to see the wave that creating ripples in the education world. Well, we are talking about the façade of the campus building which is in the shape of a wave. “This is the wave of learning and every wave of learning says, mitigate the one which has gone by and acquire the fresh one that is coming up,” explains Dr. Singh.

The moment you step in, you get a sense of tranquility in the greenery and free space of campus. You don’t bump into the concrete building; rather big lawn is waiting to embrace you. When you walk through the big corridors, gentle cool breeze will re-energize you. “Every effort has been made to keep students in touch with essential elements of nature—fresh air and sunlight. There are places in the campus where students indulge in group activities like seeing sunrise and sunset while sipping a cup of tea and chatting with friends,” tells Dr. Singh. “The idea essentially was to let people think big, thinks fresh, remain fresh and carry on”, recounts Dr. Singh on the necessity of relaxing in order to be creative and more productive.

Dr. Singh says that when students join Jaipuria Noida, they come with overload of information which bogs them down. Here they are taught the art of unlearning and emptying their cup of knowledge, so that they can retain what is taught to them in the campus. The entire teaching pedagogy and curriculum is designed on the art of isolating the relevant from the not so relevant.

The library, apart from the books, has a lot to teach the students. Here stones teach wisdom lesson if you care to pay attention. It is like a beach inside. “Stones on the river bed or beaches are polished. In the library too, same stones will always keep on reminding that knowledge is a never ending process and we can never claim to have known it all, but the process of acquiring knowledge will polish us, make us shine. Like the flowing water, new creative thoughts should also keep flowing. Importantly, one should keep moving forward” concludes Dr. Singh.
