Blockchain-based Drug Traceability System for Pharmaceutical Supply Chain is now patented on her name by Govt. of India.
Research is an integral part of Jaipuria culture. Faculty members here are deeply engaged in numerous research activities. One of the recent research that got its due recognition is Dr. Shivani Bali’s, research titled Blockchain-based Drug Traceability System for Pharmaceutical Supply chain which is now patented in her name by Govt. of India. In a conversation, the Professor of Business Analytics and Programme Director, PGDM (Service Management) at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida shares the background behind her research. Excerpts:
The consumer of any pharmaceutical drug always has a question, “Is the drug genuine or fake?” Currently, there is no technological solution available to this question. The only way to ascertain the genuineness of a drug is via lab tests, which are definitely highly accurate, but they generally take days to provide the answer. This patent provides a traceability system based on blockchain technology that will distinguish between original and falsified drugs.
A survey done by the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that there are more than 1 million deaths yearly due to counterfeit pharmaceuticals. The World Health Organization estimates that 50% of the drugs that are sold are counterfeit and 90% of drugs purchased online are not from the country from which the website claims it to be. Falsified drugs don’t do the due treatment that the patient needs and this in many cases can lead to risky consequences. Imperative nodes of the supply chain can distinguish between original or falsified drugs as they would be able to track the pharmaceuticals to their provenance. The imperative nodes can gain transparency regarding pharmaceuticals and if it has been altered, replaced, it also helps in inventory management.
When a drug is delivered to the pharmacy, pharmacists and consumers can easily trace it down through the supply chain and also the information if the drug has not met the standard parameters at any step in the chain as they will have full access to the supply chain. They can find out whether the drug is coming from a factory that is authentic or has been planted in the middle of the supply chain. Blockchain reduces complexity, hence it becomes more feasible to track and trace drugs.
Kudos to her research, in fact, it was one of the most awaited solutions that the pharma industry and the consumers were looking for.

By our situation, we must realize that difficult situations are not meant to bury us but to plant us. Having hope is having an expectation that something good will happen in the future. The change in learning style and adapting to Zoom is itself an infinite hope, and passed the best wishes virtually to the batch”.

Mr. Shah advised students, to incorporate long-term thinking in everything you do. He further added that life is a marathon and treating it like a marathon is very important. The success formula which cherished me a lot is ‘Ideas and values’, Idea is like an accelerator and Values are your breaks and tells you what to do what not to do, and quoted ‘Ideas Create and Values protect’. ‘Be your best-self and Learn, Relearn and Learn’

In the summer of 2020, when Shivani decided to take admissions for an MBA at Jaipuria Institute of Management, she had a bucket list of things to do on campus.
The one that topped her list was “making memories for life”. But because of the pandemic, her classes were held online regularly until now. Though learning never stopped at Jaipuria, all these months Shivani eagerly waited for the campus to reopen.
College means different things to different people. For some, it’s a mecca where dreams are built, where careers are given shape and the leaders of tomorrow are nurtured. To others, besides a career, college is also a place to make lifetime friends and create campus memories.
Palpable vibrant energy with students’ fills the campus as Jaipuria Institute of Management opens campuses for physical classes.
So, when Jaipuria Institute of Management decided to reopen the campus from January 2021 for physical classes, Shivani of the PGDM/MBA course 2020-22 batch was more than excited.
“The start of physical classes fills me with excitement and eager anticipation of who will join me in my courses and where our discussions will take us,” Shivani says.
Palpable vibrant energy fills the campus air as enthusiastic students return after seven months. The same goes for faculties and staff members who are eager to interact with freshers, newcomers, and existing students.
Everyone is more action-oriented than ever. The spirit to host the annual management fest like Ojas or National conference IIC at Lucknow, Youth 2025 at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur, or the annual all-campus alumni meet ‘Punarsangam’ at Jaipuria Noida is exemplary.
Talking about the arrangements on campus, Shivani says, “The Institute has meticulously planned to keep everybody safe and healthy. The institute’s response to the pandemic showcases its resolve towards safety. Their concrete plan to resume classes, with all precautions and safety measures intact, has ensured that each student gets top-of-the-line facilities to get an environment safe as home. Not just that, there are thermal scanners, hand sanitizers, masks, wherever you turn.”
Significant resources have been dedicated to bringing students, faculty, staff, and academic personnel back safely to a healthy campus. Jaipuria Management Institute in India has collaborated with HealthSetGo, one of the reputed healthcare organizations to develop the SOP guidelines on campus. Hundreds of person-hours have gone into planning because every small detail is necessary to prevent COVID-related health risks.
“Of course, the campus is a lot different now. At the entrance, temperature checks are mandatory. Students are strictly asked to follow physical distancing norms be it in the class, library, or cafeteria. Classroom sessions are held with 50% seating capacity,” says Syed Kamran, PGDM 2019-21 batch from Jaipuria Lucknow campus.
For Shivani and her classmates, seeing these arrangements in place conveys that – Jaipuria cares. She looks forward to the remaining semesters of the MBA program.
She says, “I feel it is important to interact with my peers to pursue acts of learning. I believe, besides studies, our class learning community equally shapes our personality.”
Indeed, creating a safe, healthy campus takes elbow grease and human concern.
A post-graduate student from Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida talks about his journey towards achieving his goals and successfully securing a job with Colgate Palmolive Sometimes you need to find your career, and sometimes, your career finds you. Born in the interiors of Uttar Pradesh, Neeraj Tripathi grew up aspiring to become a Management post-graduate. Similar to a lot of other professionals in the sector, his passion for specializing in Marketing came not from great future prospects, but from an intense desire to learn and practice the art of selling without actually selling. Neeraj’s first step towards getting into Marketing for a brand like Colgate Palmolive began with scouting for opportunities internally. Luckily, that worked for him. That was the time when he realized the potential of chasing for the finest job, and for that he decided to reskill himself to suit into the industry parameters. Today a proud employee of his dream-like workplace, he recalls the placement interview phase, “there was immense competition for this profile, since we were 60 of us who applied for it. The first question was tricky, and it baffled me instantly. I was asked – if a distributor does not assign work to you during your training period, what will you chose to do in that period? Today, I’m glad for the answer I gave during that time,” said Neeraj. The thing he most appreciates is the encouragement and guidance he got from his professors at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida. Through all the reading between the lines and dedicatedly working towards achieving the set goals, he ultimately learned that the only person holding him back from doing so was himself. He adds, “What set me apart from the crowd was my willingness to learn, unlearn, re-learn and maintaining self-confidence. Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida helped me prepare for the job marketplace, tremendously. The MBA program was perhaps the gateway to my future.” Three months away from contributing towards a new stint as a Customer Development Officer, Neeraj happily owes the credit to his internship experience at Amul and Mr. Karni Singh Jhala from Viacom 18 who truly inspired him. As a piece of advice, Neeraj adds, “While it’s easy to give excuses and difficult to maintain consistency, do not give up without even trying to know what’s in there. Everybody around us is always helpful – in my case, my professors, my fellow-students, friends, and undoubtedly, my family. You can be your own mentor, but that does not mean you shouldn’t pay heed to what others suggest” Life holds a special place for those who dare to dream beyond their capacity. Neeraj aspired to build a career with nothing but the best, and that’s what he manifested. He recalls and says, “I remember travelling back to Noida from hometown and that’s when I got a call from Colgate. While I did secretly hope for good news, I didn’t see my dream coming true so quickly. The first call I made was to my parents, and I’ll never forget that day.”
Becoming the Territory Manager at FedEx Express Jadumoni Das, PGDM 2015, Jaipuria Noida
“People. Service. Profit. We call that PSP in FedX and I think I sort of got that right,” says Jadumoni Das pulling away from the gravitas of the question pointed at him. He was in a light-hearted mood and why won’t he! He had just wrapped a long tedious day at work when we arrived at his office with a bunch of questions to ask. Let us begin by introducing the man. Jadumoni’s native place is in Assam but he was only 18 when he left the beautiful land of eri and muga. He had BBA in mind and WBUT found his application perfect. 3 years in Kolkata, amidst BBA curriculum, internships, assignments and grades, Jadumoni did not forget the bigger picture. He wanted to do his MBA from a B-school that would put him in the map of big things! And, he made it just in time to Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida campus. It was 2013. Yet a lot was left to achieve. To begin with: a top-of-the-line industry placement. “2 years of PGDM taught me a lot of things but the most important of what I learnt was- to not let go of opportunities,” suggests Jadumoni who started it at the executive level in FedEx and is now the Territory Manager at FedEx Express. He further adds, “just throwing my two penny here- what might often look very trivial and insignificant as an opportunity to you can just be the table turner of your life. The cultural fests, the conclaves, the internships, the golgappa stall at the startup fest, all of it are great deal important. You should and you must be an active participant in everything. These 730 days of your life that you will spend in Jaipuria will decide a lot for you and I vouch from my experience- there are opportunities awaiting you at every door you knock in this b-school.” Jadumoni outshone other candidates who had sat for the FedEx interview in the year 2015. He had confidence to fall back on but his major enabler was his communication skills. “I carefully chose my specialization and I had picked Marketing & Operations simply because I wanted to settle in a company like FedEx. I honed my theoretical knowledge and complimented it with an internship with ITC” explains the alumnus. ITC was just launching its popular deodorant line- Engage and in the PGDM summer break, Jadumoni took off to Dehradun. At ITC, he was assigned the task of identifying the loopholes in the distribution channel of the Dehradun region. He also had to figure out the problem set of retailers, maintain the daily sales report (DSR). He covered more then 300 new retailers in Dehradun region within a span of 20 days. “A spirit we are trained to nurture from the beginning at Jaipuria,” adds Jadumoni. At his interview with FedEx, this sheer passion and commitment to work shone out loud! The logistics company immediately hired him. As a goodbye question, we asked this jocund man- what does he miss the most about Jaipuria life? “My friend Jagpreet Singh and the cricket ground which was very close to the girls’ hostel,” remarks Jadumoni while waving at us.
Ayush Mishra of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida is graduating with a job in Dubai, offering him a package of 18 lacs. p.a.
For Ayush Mishra of Jaipuria, Noida, the next few years of life is going to be about hard work, followed by spending evenings and weekends at Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Ferrari World, Atlantic, so on and so forth. After all, he has received his job offer all the way from Middle East’s renowned supply chain and logistics company- Zen Global DMCC. The moment when the news arrived “It was 15th October and I was attending my Inventory Management class. It was around 2:30 p.m. when a UAE number flashed on my mobile screen. I could feel my heart thumping inside me. I excused myself from class to receive the call and as soon as I took the phone close to my ear, a voice from the other side asked- ‘Am I speaking to Mr. Ayush Mishra?’ Even before I could reply, arrived the news- ‘I am calling from Zen Global DMCC and I wish to inform you that we are willing to provide you the employment with us at 18 lacs p.a. Is it fine with you?’ My joy knew no bounds,” narrates Ayush while explaining how it felt on first hearing about his new job offer. The Varanasi boy- his stumbling blocks and his wins
Before Ayush sat for the interview with Zen Global DMCC, he had applied at SRF Ltd.- a manufacturing company located in Gurgaon. The competition was fierce. There were applicants from all across India but Ayush managed to sail through easily till the final round arrived. “After 35 minutes of intense questioning, the panelists asked me- ‘what are your ethics in life?’ and I replied almost instantaneously- ‘I cannot be dishonest to anyone’. After that I was asked to handle a situation where after a point in time, the situation demanded me to lie. I did. And they immediately pointed out- ‘yes, you are caught! You just lied.’ Of course, Ayush could not make it to SRF Ltd. but his win was- the lesson he brought back home from the incident. “Next time I am asked this question again, I will draw the answer from my strengths,” says Ayush smilingly. What acted in favor during the Zen Global DMCC interview? Ayush’s interview panel had the Marketing Head and the Operations Head asking him various questions and testing his domain knowledge, especially in Logistics Management. “Luckily, just the day before my interview with Zen Global, I had my end term examination on Logistics Management. Therefore, it almost became a cakewalk and I had the answers ready on the tip of my tongue,” says the Varansi born boy who is set to leave for Dubai to join Zen Global on 15th December, 2018. As of now, Ayush will be trained about procurement and supply chain of the company and during these 3 months of training, he would be shifted across departments for gaining from the holistic understanding of the organization and its functions. So, what will Ayush miss the most about his Jaipuria life? “My friends, my hostel life and of course, my girl friend. They stood by me no matter the circumstances and it would be difficult without them,” says Ayush while concluding the conversation.

Green ticks, green ticks and green ticks on the career bucket list. Bhavana Tandon and her journey post Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida
Bhavana Tandon was graduating from Jaipuria Institute of Management in the year 2014 and in her graduation ceremony, she had stated one thing clearly to her friend and family- “I see myself at par and competing with IIM graduates henceforth.” It has only been 4 years since then and Bhavana’s career has been witnessing meteoric rise. The young girl has taken three distinct moves in 48 months, each being better from the other. Baffled by her speed to success- we recently interviewed Bhavana over a cup of coffee, cookies and heartfelt laughter at her home. Bhavana looked immensely relaxed, happy and contented but the fire in her eye- had gotten us amazed. For a girl in her mid twenties, Bhavana is clear and cut-to-the-point about her career goals. In fact, she has always been clear since she remembers. Prior to starting her PGDM journey with Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, Bhavana was already “The Best All-Round Student” of Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. Within the span of two years of her PGDM itself, she rose to the position of the student VP of the Finance Club, Core Leader of the HR club, published various papers and articles around Finance, stood as the runner up of the “Six Feet Under”, attended the national Workshop on the Global Economy organized by the B-school, completed a compelling summer project with Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd., emerged with the highest CGPA in her Finance specialization, so on and so forth. For a girl like her- a little training and some good mentorship was enough to do the charm. And so it did! She walked out of the Jaipuria Noida campus with a placement offer from L&T Finance. She joined the company as a Management Trainee in the Mumbai office and within 8 months was made a Business Credit Analyst and shifted to the city of her choice- Delhi. Where others take a year or two conveniently to make the rise, Bhavana had it in 8 months. “After having the taste of both Branch & HO, I could finally move into the Small & Medium Enterprises Department of L&T Finance Ltd. at the Regional Office, Delhi and that had me immensely excited. The SME sector had me hooked to it since a very long time,” says Bhavana passionately. Two years passed in a whizz with L&T and she decided to shift her base to a more handsomely paying and gratifying opportunity. In March, 2016 when Bhavana was contacted by Hero Fin Corp, her life had a big change ahead of her. They gave Bhavana the opportunity to join them as an Associate Credit Analyst where she had to sanction the Credit Facilities to SMEs which included clients within and outside the ecosystem. Not just that- she had to head a team. “When I reached Hero Fin Corp, I realized I have to pull my Jaipuria classroom lessons back from my memory to withstand the challenge ahead of me,” she adds. For the first time in her professional life, she had to head a team and she was nervous, but “I had a very good management education backing me there- my professors had taught me to be a sustainable leader whereas others were taught to merely lead.” Currently Bhavana made another big jump to Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd. and is the Area Credit Senior Manager. She deals with big ticket size loans ranging from Rs. 7.5 Crs to Rs. 15 Crs (Mortgages-LAP and Housing Segment) for North Region and as she hands us over the news, she remarks- “my career has been so far, so good.”
