Jaipuria Noida STUDENT Speaks

J. D. Singh Sir is My Idol

I am a first year student, absolutely inspired by Dr. JD Singh, Director General, Jaipuria-Noida. All of us look for someone to look up to, someone to idolise. At Jaipuria-Noida, I found my idol. An effluent academician, he has served as IFCI Chair Professor of International Business and as a member of faculty of IMI Delhi, IIM Bangalore, XLRI Jamshedpur, Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad and the Delhi University. A Summer Visiting Faculty at McGill University, Montreal, his academic achievements are completely overshadowed by his inspiring character.

Although initially I did not believe it when someone said that the people who reach the top are great because they are humble and gracious, yet after having met Dr. Singh, all my doubts stand erased. His personality is a strong embodiment of the fact that humility, grace and success go hand-in-hand.

I feel that Director General JD Singh is similar to the Late Steve Jobs – extremely influential and exceptionally passionate about his work. Even though I haven’t got many opportunities of interaction with him, he has made a huge impact on me during the single, short talk I had with him. He patiently discussed and strategized about my future plans and aspirations and gave my concerns a patient hearing and left a profound impact on me. Thanks to Sir, my conviction in myself has increased manifold.

Sir’s speeches are the most rousing – be it on academics, social issues, or an address to the crowd in general. They make us rethink our motives and encourage us to dream big and dream strong.
His patent reply to a ‘Thank you’ is that the pleasure is all his. His zeal is motivating, his presence is electrifying. The ever-smiling face of Sir epitomizes his magnanimous personality which is forever an object of positivity for each of us.

Dr. Singh is like a candle who continues to light the lives of the many students who get to come under his well-regarded guidance. I am honoured to be a part of Jaipuria, mainly due to the fact that this is where I got to meet my idol and mentor.

Value systems key to managerial prowess, says Jaipuria-Noida faculty

Jaipuria Institute of Management is known to provide high-quality managerial education to students. One of its main tenets lays the basis of every managerial study in positive value systems. The same principle seeps down to the level of teaching as well.
One of the oldest faculty of Jaipuria-Noida, Dr Swati Agarwal, gives an ethical form to this belief. A professor of human resource management and organizational behaviour, she is one of the most popular teachers at Jaipuria-Noida.
The secret lies in the methodology adopted by her. “In today’s dynamic world, one has to be up to date.” The professor opts for techno-savvy ways to keep the students interested in the subject, which she feels is elemental. Further, it helps increase the retention span of a concept taught in class. “I try to incorporate videos and presentations as a mode of communicating the nuances of the subject,” she says.
Dedicated to her profession, she one of the rare teachers who give their heart and soul into teaching the class. “I try my best in terms of what I can do. The process of imparting knowledge must have a personalized streak,” says the much-sought-after professor of management. Apart from an efficient flow of knowledge on a two-way basis within the class, she is open to all sorts of feedback and queries even during the post-lecture hours. According to her, “a one-to-one relationship to the extent that the student feels confident to clarify all subject-related doubts is the success mantra of the teaching profession.”
Dr Agarwal has herself been very ambitious, with a rising academic and career graph. Her present job was preceded by a stint with the government-controlled University of Allahabad. Academically, she has done her research in management and attained a doctoral degree in the same. With a rich decade-long experience, she surely understands the significance of an all-round development. Till date, she goes by this philosophy.
Apart from being an HRM and OB professor, she is an active member of the examination cell for the past three and a half years. She also chairs the HR committee.
With this wide perspective on the range of student-oriented departments at Jaipuria-Noida, she understands the importance of exposing these future managers to the practicalities of the industry. For this, it is necessary to make them face the world
in some way. Since most of the students who get admitted to the institute are fresh graduate, executives comparatively less in number, it is through methodologies like case studies, real-life examples and lively discussions on the day-to-day incidents related to the subject prove a helpful.
Advising the managers of today, Dr Agarwal echoes the pillar principles of Jaipuria-Noida Basic. The quality called leadership enables one to manage and influence a group. Being a team worker catalytically bonds the various members of the group. Another key element is being a good orator and being able to persuade others to agree to an idea. But, professor says, “the vitality lies in holding on to one’s value system and integrity.”

My College Has The Best Faculty, Ever…!!!

Jaipuria Institute of Management Noida possesses gems in form of its faculty members and one of its precious member is Ma’am Poonam Sharma who taught marketing to me in two semester. She is one who makes teaching so lively and practical. I especially like the way she tries to bridge the gap between theory and practicality. The exposure she gave us is incredible and arranging visits to places like Asian Paints Store was a step in the process. The way she articulates and tries to stem professionalism in us makes the subject more meaningful.
My other favourite faculty is Pratibha Ma’am. She taught us Accounting in the first semester. I have been accounts student for the last five years. But the way she cleared my concepts and basics no one else could do. I had phobia of accounts, but later I realized what role a good teacher can play in removing all the fears. We have some other teachers like Sonali Ma’am. She used to teach us Quants and I can bet it’s very difficult to find a quant’s teacher like her. She used to handle all our queries very patiently.I really feel that Jaipuria Noida rocks, because of its wonderful faculty!

Prof. Ahmed, Enriching GenY With Passion And Attitudinal Optimism at Jaipuria-Noida

Ahmed sir,as he is fondly called by the students of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, is a multi-tasker, and is passionate about each of them. Emphasizing on an all-round development, Moiduddin Ahmedsir, apart from holding the prestigious position of Assistant Professor, Finance and General Management, is also a member of the sports committee, boys’ hostel office and the library committee.
With this, he justifies the “fruitful, enriching and prolific” nature of the institute. He finds the working environment conducive to academics for students as well as the faculty. “I have learnt a lot here,”he says.
Presently, a vital microcosm of Jaipuria-Noida, Ahmed sir has had rich experience in a wide variety of fields. His last job was at Babu Banarasi Das Institute of Management three years ago, preceded by a course in Integral University. But what catches one’s attention is the innate entrepreneurial streak in him. His starting his own business brings home the catalytic force that helped him construct a project on microenterprises. It’s no surprise that an insight into the chaiwala and panwala stay is part of his study.
In spite of the threat of an impending recession, India is doing quite well for its sustenance, he says. For those who wish to turn entrepreneurs, the professor’s wise words are, “In planning to start one’s own business, there is a need for passion.” Zeal, solely, will take one to the aspired state since only this vital element will help cross hurdles with confidence.Being a firm believer in an all-round development, Ahmad sir is glad that Jaipuria Institute of Management lays stress on co-curricular activities along with academics. There is an inside as well as outside classroom development,he says.
Personally, Prof Ahmed prefers the case-study mode of teaching. An application of the theory studied is important for one to make sense of it as well as the situational aspect of the same.Going by the Jaipuria Noida tradition, the mentor and his mentees put their heads together and discuss on forums pertaining to writing learnings, movie summaries, build contacts and develop the professional–personal bond between the faculty members and the students.

Jaipuria Noida’s Research Professor Richa Mishra Follows Texts to a T But Not in Her Teaching Methods

In her two-year stint at Jaipuria-Noida, research professor Richa Mishra has come to personify the insitute’s philosophy – that communication is a two-way process. As such, she doesn’t believe in only lecturing her students on research methodologies in management but uses interactive sessions.
“One must learn to make the lectures interesting,” she says. It is more important for students to understand the concept rather than just sit through lectures. Therefore, she resorts to ways of discussion, not just dictation. “Case studies and visual exercises such as paper presentations are vital teaching methodologies that one must practise,” she says.
That’s not only as far as the teacher-student equation at Jaipuria-Noida, goes. The professor says the institute is a well-structured place. In the absence of a hierarchical system, the management is open about all their decisions. They treat every teacher as indispensable. The institute gives a lot of importance to the feedback from the professors. Apart from a top-down approach, it also looks at the bottom-up flow of communication. That helps, says Richa.
Apart from the academics, Richa also personifies the institute’s objective of all-round development. Each professor volunteers for a co-curricular activity committee. Here, she heads the modal training management group.
It is no wonder that she is highly popular among the students of Jaipuria-Noida. The secret, she says, lies in “making the student catch up with the same wavelength as yours while you are teaching a topic.”
So much so for a teacher’s approach. As far as students are concerned, she says, they should also reciprocate a teacher’s enthusiasm and give their best in achieving the target, academically and even as far as their overall development is concerned. Today, managers within the industry must work on strengthening their basics. It is imperative to make the study base strong. One cannot simply rely on Internet search engines for details of all kinds, Richa says. According to her, “Theory given in the books is the basic support structure. Never forget this.” Paper presentations and other visual techniques must go hand in hand with these theories. The former must solely be an application stand; the latter, sacrosanct, she says.
In addition to knowledge – of theoretical systems and industrial methodologies – the Jaipuria professorlays emphasis on a proactive approach. Laziness and procrastination never help in reaching the heights, she says. One must have the confidence to face people and situations at all times. Another helpful tip is to “be a team member.” Since companies designate broad work tasks to teams, not individuals, one must learn how to work and behave in a team, she says. In her case studies and visual-aided presentations, she explains how while retaining one’s self, one should also take notice of the other people in the team. One must work with them, understand them, be compassionate, but at the same
time, never lose sight of the goal – of the task at hand, of the company and even each individual’s workprofile, she says.

Faculty of HR & OB at Jaipuria Noida,Dr.Shalini Shrivastava, spearheads student satisfaction survey initiative

No one is perfect. This applies to Institutions too. But only those who try to overcome their weaknesses and strive for perfection finally reach the top. Jaipuria Institute of Management Noida is going out of the way to help students reach the pinnacle of success by ironing out the bottlenecks. Spearheading this mission, along with the Director General Jaipuria Institute of Management ( All campuses) J.D. Singh, is Dr. Shalini Shrivasta, Associate professor OB & HR.
Dr. Shalini is a hardcore researcher, who is using her skills for the benefit of students, what if she has to go the extra mile and devote more time. Although just a year old in the organisation, this veteran’s contribution to the organisation will be remembered for years to come. And this is just the beginning. “The whole project is based on students’ feedback on every aspect of the institution. After going through each and every suggestion, certain decisions have been taken, and results will be in front of everyone very soon”, says Dr. Shalini. “Importantly, this student satisfaction survey is not just a one-time exercise. This will be a regular phenomenon and students will have every opportunity to get their problems redressed “, adds Dr.Shalini.
Associate professor Dr. Shalini Srivastava is very happy that she got an opportunity to work in an esteemed organisation like Jaipuria Noida which is devoted to students’ welfare.
Apart from her academic talent, what makes Dr. Shalini stand out is her enthusiasm and love for the profession. “I tell my students that they should do what they love to do, and everything else will fall in line”, says Dr.Shalini, without realizing that she is thumping the table. Well, it is heartening to see a teacher thumping the table for students cause. Dr.Shalini has been in the academics for the last fifteen years. Teaching OB & HR at Jaipuria Noida, she has an advice for HR students—be ready to slog in the initial years and career will boom after that. Contrary to popular belief that HR is easy, she stresses that it is equally demanding and requires one to put in the best in order to succeed.
She busts the myth that HR is for girls. “Now, boys outnumber and outshine girls in HR. It is no longer dominated by girls. Anyone who understands human behavior and knows how to deal with people can carve a niche for oneself”, says Dr.Shalini. This hardcore professional is a mother too, who is happy that she is able to spend quality time with her baby. Although she sometimes calls her second year students Beta(Son), but she considers them budding mangers who are mature and ready to take on the fierce world of Business.
