Jaipuria Noida Creates a Confluence of Professionals to Kick-Start the Batch of 2012-14.

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida welcomed its 2012-14 batch of 240 Business Management students amidst a lot of learning and fun-filled activities. A two week-long Orientation Programme that began on the 27th of June, 2012 included industry interaction, familiarisation with the system and ice-breaking sessions.
The inaugural session was opened by Dr. Anoop Singh, Director Jaipuria Noida. Welcoming the students into the adult professional world, Dr. Singh spoke to them about their future as well-placed managers in the world of business.
The Chief Guest for the inaugural session was Professor Abad Ahmed, Chairman, Aga Khan Foundation. Professor Ahmed shared his own journey through the corporate world to inspire new students.
Asim Talukdar, Ex- Senior VP- Hr Global NIIT, addressed the students the next day. He picked up the most relevant issue for his audience – ‘Expectations of Industry from Young Managers’.  Shivesh Kumar Singh, Regional Head HR, ING Vyasya Bank and Kamal Gairola, Regional HR Manager, Mahindra Financial Services, discussed the current industry trends from a marketing perspective.
The other guests who interacted with the students during the orientation included Gyanendra Singh, Director Mancer Consulting, Hari Sharma, Head-Talent Acquisitions, Neuerth Group, Gautam  Pandey, Associate VP, Deloitte Consulting, Sonal Chadha, Process Trainer, Copal Partners, and R.K. Mediretta, GM- Finance, FCI.
Faculty introduction was part of the orientation and it seems to have made quite an impression on the newcomers. As Rahul Prakash, a new student, said, “I feel that the faculty here is like a river of knowledge.  What you fill depends upon the size of the bucket that you are carrying within yourself!”
The students were also familiarised with attendance requirements, Moodle – their Learning Management System, examinations and the grading system.
During this Orientation, the batch was divided into groups of six students, who were required to work together on a variety of assigned tasks.  “It was a very different experience compared to all the sessions that had taken place till then. It made us feel more comfortable with our batch-mates,” feels Komal Behl, one of the newcomers.
During the last leg of the Orientation programme, the new students were introduced to the huge infrastructure of Jaipuria Noida.
Experiential learning was facilitated through activities like Extempore. “An on-camera extempore was organised. A year later we will have the video recording to compare our improvement,” explained Kirti, another fresher.
The high note of the entire process, however, was the ‘Talent Hunt’! By this time, the ice was well broken and a new batch smoothly moved into their 2-year course amid a lot of singing, dancing and drama. “We had a gala time!” concludes Tarun Suneja, another aspiring manager from the 2012-14 batch.

Students of Jaipuria Institute of Management, led by professor Aman Shrivastav, complete International Entrepreneurship Programme at JIBS, Sweden.

Professor Aman Shrivastav of Jaipuria Noida has just returned from a month-long tour of the Jonkoping International Business School. Professor Shrivastav was accompanied on his tour of JIBS by 3 students of Jaipuria Noida, who had gone across for the renowned one-month International Entrepreneurship Programme.
“Jonkoping  University is one of the three Swedish private universities that can award doctorates. It is recognised as one of the best Business Schools of Entrepreneurship in the whole of Europe. This entire trip was organised by Jaipuria Noida.”
Professor Aman Shrivastav, who was at JIBS to study the how this world-class institution conducts its education programmes, found that European class-room methods were very different from Indian class-room techniques.
“We are more oriented towards the American system. In Jaipuria Noida, we follow the Harvard-style method of case studies and discussions. In Jonkoping  University, the system is very much lecture-oriented. But their stress on Live Projects is immense. One particular industry visit that included the Jaipuria Noida students was to the production line of the world renowned retailers, ‘Ikea’ – which is shortly coming to India. Right from the unloading of the raw material from the trucks till the finished goods, everything is automated. Manpower is almost negligible.”
Automation of the entire administrative and security process even in Jonkoping University was something that impressed Professor Shrivastav.
“If your entry is approved, all you have to do is present yourself at the gate. Your access card, along with your photo, will be generated automatically. This card not only gives you access to your classrooms but to all the facilities in the University as per your role. You tap your card and enter the computer lab, and even to start the computer, you tap your access card. There are no security-men like you find here in India.”
Professor Aman Shrivastav and all the students of Jaipuria Noida on this summer programme were gratified to find that there was no hint of prejudice against Indians in the Swedes; in fact, most Swedes avoided the company of those who did have a prejudiced outlook. The small group from Jaipuria Noida came back deeply impressed by the Swedish ‘dignity of labour’ and regard for humans above all.
“Jönköpingisthe 10th largest city in Sweden. The public transport system is absolutely fantastic, but is hardly used, as people prefer travelling by private vehicles. Infact, on my first day, I was talking on my mobile while waiting to cross the road. I was surprised to see that despite the fact that I was standing on the pavement, cars had come to a halt on the road waiting for me to get across. One of the drivers actually indicated to me that unless I crossed the road, the cars would not move!”
Professor Shrivastav is positive that apart from the Diploma in International Entrepreneurship from the famed Jonkoping  University of Sweden, the Jaipuria Noida students who actually want to start their own businesses stand a chance of receiving support from Jonkoping  University.
“Atleast 50 new business ideas generated by their students are funded annually by the Jonkoping  University. It was also a great place to network as we came across faculty and students from across the globe, who will grow up to be future leaders.”
Professor Aman Shrivastav hopes that the students at Jaipuria Noida will inculcate the great Swedish fitness mantra as well.
“Just like the car, a bicycle is a necessary part of a Swede’s life. They are extremely fit, probably because they walk 2-3 hours a day.”
Professor Aman Shrivastav has already chalked out a plan to bring in the best of what he had seen at Jönköping University to the Jaipuria Institute of Management.

Jaipuria Noida Placement Update

Isha Misra tells us about the 9 rounds of placement process that helped her get her dream job with Hyundai Motors.

I am currently working with Hyundai MOBIS (Hyundai Motors Group) as a Management Trainee (Marketing) – Parts Division. My job description basically consists of handling all the communications and preparing them from time to time. This includes preparing all Report Approvals, Internal Communications, Circulars, the Quarterly Newsletter, etc. I also  handle the installation and follow-up for display stands, display kit dispatches, the leaflet dispatch every quarter, design and photo shoots related to those leaflets, conducting surveys every quarter on challenging topics and the vendor selection for the designing of the newsletter & leaflets. Finally,  data extraction from our AMOS and DPOS software also falls to me.. Even though it sounds like a lot, this is just a brief outline of my job profile.
The placement process for this company was obviously quite rigorous and consisted of 9 rounds. The first round was a technical interview and questions were asked from the spheres of marketing, strategic marketing, the automobile industry and about the recently held auto expo. The second round was another technical round conducted by another marketing head of the company. The third was an HR round in which questions were asked in order to judge my ability to fit into the company’s culture. Then there were a string of technical rounds with other department heads and a final HR confirmation round through a  video conference with the GM (HR) of the Chennai office.
With so many rounds and so much pressure, no wonder that I needed support and guidance. In that, the faculty at Jaipuria Noida  came through for me and were very supportive throughout the placement month. They gave us interview questions and guided us by arranging crucial mock placement sessions whenever a company visit was due.
The 2 years in Jaipuria Noida have been a joy ride with all the backing that I’ve got from the  faculty and placement coordinators. I have learnt and grown a lot, both professionally and personally, in these years. The whole experience was intense and will  certainly helped me a lot in my professional life.

An Insight on Consumer Behaviour

As a part of Jaipuria Institute of Management’s strong industry interface programme, Mr. Vishal Khanna, Marketing Manager at Reliance Infocom, shared his expert knowledge of consumer behaviour with students and faculty at the Jaipuria Noida campus. The event was set in the backdrop of the recent placement of two interns from Jaipuria Noida with Reliance Infocom for the summer training programme.
Showing keen insight into the consumer’s decision-making process, Mr. Khanna took the future managers from Jaipuria Noida through the entire consumer behaviour process. This included how a consumer decides onproduct specifications, how he searches for suppliers, seeks proposal solicitation, carries out selection and finally, carries out post-purchase evaluation.
Mr. Khanna made his talk interesting by sharing many real life situations faced by him and his company with the students of Jaipuria Noida. “The actual study of consumer behaviour begins only when the consumer seeks proposal solicitation. With time, consumer behaviour has become a very complex process that is highly researched, and is critical for the success of a product and a company,” he said.
In an interactive way, Mr. Khanna discussed a number of case studies with the youngsters of Jaipuria Noida, which showed how consumer behaviour varied from department to department even within the same organisation.
“There are a number of reasons for this. Some of these are: difference in perceptions of departments involved, conflict – technical versus commercial, cost reduction versusincreasing efficiency – which is pretty much Finance versus HR. The role of individuals also has a part to play in consumer behaviour.”
Mr. Khanna’s talk covered all aspects of consumer behaviour, from the reasons behind different buying behaviour for same product, to challenges faced in selling products to the corporate buyer as well as the retail customer. He brought out various examples of how companies try to overcome these challenges, particularly through communications aimed at the target consumer. Step by step, Mr. Khanna took the aspiring managers at Jaipuria Noida through the process of the creation and implementation of a ‘Brand Recall Strategy.’
“By the time you pass out from Jaipuria Noida, you will know that the one who knows his consumer, and has studied the nature and requirements of his consumer well, is most likely to win the deal,” concluded Mr. Vishal Khanna, Marketing Manager, Reliance Infocom.
“I feel absolutely in touch with the industry now,” said Mohammed of the 2011-13 batch of Jaipuria Noida. “Thanks to our faculty at Jaipuria, we knew most of the terminology used by Mr. Vishal Khanna, and were able to make sense of what he was saying. It was great to learn from the experience of such a senior manager at Reliance Infocom.”
With two of their peers placed with Reliance Infocom this year for summer internships and the valuable industry interface with Mr. Vishal Khanna, students of Jaipuria Noida feel that this is just the beginning of a long-term relationship between Jaipuria Noida and Reliance Infocom.

Jaipuria Noida STUDENT Speaks

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida nurtures the student entrepreneur dream club – Illuminati

Jaipuria Noida knows that there is more to the educational experience than merely attending class. As a result of this, students at Jaipuria Noida have many chances to connect with fellow, like-minded students through a myriad of student groups. One such group, the Illuminati, is made up of students who developed a lucrative business idea that is not only promising, but also a successful venture.

The Illuminati’s purpose is to experience the world of business management, to create a platform for their fellow students and to promote Jaipuria Noida as the Brand Ambassador among students, giving them pride in their institution. With this in mind, the Illuminati began production of collared T-shirts that bore the college logo. Selling the T-shirts to students and faculty, their idea was for students to wear the T-shirt as a means of promoting the product and the institute.

As the idea has taken off, they have a long-term goal of implementing their plan with other Jaipuria branches based in Lucknow, Jaipur and Indore. Additionally, they also plan to start business collaborations with corporations and conglomerates in the near future. The ultimate goal of the Illuminati is to bring back lost Indian culture into the modern world with the help of rural artisans. In this way, they can create a symbiotic relationship between urban and rural economic growth.

The young group is well on its way towards success, paving the way for themselves and their fellow students.
