J. D. Singh Sir is My Idol

I am a first year student, absolutely inspired by Dr. JD Singh, Director General, Jaipuria-Noida. All of us look for someone to look up to, someone to idolise. At Jaipuria-Noida, I found my idol. An effluent academician, he has served as IFCI Chair Professor of International Business and as a member of faculty of IMI Delhi, IIM Bangalore, XLRI Jamshedpur, Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad and the Delhi University. A Summer Visiting Faculty at McGill University, Montreal, his academic achievements are completely overshadowed by his inspiring character.

Although initially I did not believe it when someone said that the people who reach the top are great because they are humble and gracious, yet after having met Dr. Singh, all my doubts stand erased. His personality is a strong embodiment of the fact that humility, grace and success go hand-in-hand.

I feel that Director General JD Singh is similar to the Late Steve Jobs – extremely influential and exceptionally passionate about his work. Even though I haven’t got many opportunities of interaction with him, he has made a huge impact on me during the single, short talk I had with him. He patiently discussed and strategized about my future plans and aspirations and gave my concerns a patient hearing and left a profound impact on me. Thanks to Sir, my conviction in myself has increased manifold.

Sir’s speeches are the most rousing – be it on academics, social issues, or an address to the crowd in general. They make us rethink our motives and encourage us to dream big and dream strong.
His patent reply to a ‘Thank you’ is that the pleasure is all his. His zeal is motivating, his presence is electrifying. The ever-smiling face of Sir epitomizes his magnanimous personality which is forever an object of positivity for each of us.

Dr. Singh is like a candle who continues to light the lives of the many students who get to come under his well-regarded guidance. I am honoured to be a part of Jaipuria, mainly due to the fact that this is where I got to meet my idol and mentor.

FACULTY Speaks Jaipuria Noida

Value systems key to managerial prowess, says Jaipuria-Noida faculty

Jaipuria Institute of Management is known to provide high-quality managerial education to students. One of its main tenets lays the basis of every managerial study in positive value systems. The same principle seeps down to the level of teaching as well.
One of the oldest faculty of Jaipuria-Noida, Dr Swati Agarwal, gives an ethical form to this belief. A professor of human resource management and organizational behaviour, she is one of the most popular teachers at Jaipuria-Noida.
The secret lies in the methodology adopted by her. “In today’s dynamic world, one has to be up to date.” The professor opts for techno-savvy ways to keep the students interested in the subject, which she feels is elemental. Further, it helps increase the retention span of a concept taught in class. “I try to incorporate videos and presentations as a mode of communicating the nuances of the subject,” she says.
Dedicated to her profession, she one of the rare teachers who give their heart and soul into teaching the class. “I try my best in terms of what I can do. The process of imparting knowledge must have a personalized streak,” says the much-sought-after professor of management. Apart from an efficient flow of knowledge on a two-way basis within the class, she is open to all sorts of feedback and queries even during the post-lecture hours. According to her, “a one-to-one relationship to the extent that the student feels confident to clarify all subject-related doubts is the success mantra of the teaching profession.”
Dr Agarwal has herself been very ambitious, with a rising academic and career graph. Her present job was preceded by a stint with the government-controlled University of Allahabad. Academically, she has done her research in management and attained a doctoral degree in the same. With a rich decade-long experience, she surely understands the significance of an all-round development. Till date, she goes by this philosophy.
Apart from being an HRM and OB professor, she is an active member of the examination cell for the past three and a half years. She also chairs the HR committee.
With this wide perspective on the range of student-oriented departments at Jaipuria-Noida, she understands the importance of exposing these future managers to the practicalities of the industry. For this, it is necessary to make them face the world
in some way. Since most of the students who get admitted to the institute are fresh graduate, executives comparatively less in number, it is through methodologies like case studies, real-life examples and lively discussions on the day-to-day incidents related to the subject prove a helpful.
Advising the managers of today, Dr Agarwal echoes the pillar principles of Jaipuria-Noida Basic. The quality called leadership enables one to manage and influence a group. Being a team worker catalytically bonds the various members of the group. Another key element is being a good orator and being able to persuade others to agree to an idea. But, professor says, “the vitality lies in holding on to one’s value system and integrity.”

Hostel is Home Away From Home For Me

Hostel life here is very different from other hostels. I have been staying in hostel for the past three-four years. My under-graduation hostel life was really complicated! There were so many restrictions and do’s and don’ts. Everyone was self centred and busy in their own world.

But here at Jaipuria-Noida, since the number of students is few, everyone knows everyone here. I feel Jaipuria Noida’s hostel is very different from any other hostel. So our communication is very clear and everyone understands. As far as the facilities are concerned, i feel the money we invested while opting for the Hostel was money well spent. We enjoy the facilities of a Gym, a common room,a badminton court. Also our suggestions are heard.

I am in the food committee of the hostel. We had recommended a gas stove to be put in the hostel. So now, the mess remains open at night and boys can go and cook- maggi or tea! I also am the coordinator of a Movie club in the college- but that’s another story!

The hostel is 2.5 kms away from the college. And we can enter the hostel by 9 pm. We hang out in the malls recently and there’s a bazaar nearby which is more conveniently located. It’s really fun. Lunch – we eat at the mess at the college. Breakfast, snacks and dinner are served in the boys hostel mess.

Just today we were watching the match and created a ruckus in the common room. The warden sir came running to quieten us. After we became a little controlled, he joined us and actually enjoyed the match with us. It was really funny and cool at the same time. Here there are representatives from each year. Students can volunteer for the representative’s post. Among the many volunteers one passes the interview by the faculty

During exam time the atmosphere in the hostel is very different. We usually have a group of five students who take up one subject (which one is good at) each and discuss after college in study groups. During exam time, this becomes even more intensive and regularized. We also organize festivals like welcome party for fresher’s and farewell.

In the evenings sometimes we find the time to play badminton, or i play the guitar with another friend of mine who is also good at it. It really helps to relax. Some students may join and listen in, some may sing impromptu. But it’s really great to share camaraderie with fellow students here.

Prof. Ahmed, Enriching GenY With Passion And Attitudinal Optimism at Jaipuria-Noida

Ahmed sir,as he is fondly called by the students of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, is a multi-tasker, and is passionate about each of them. Emphasizing on an all-round development, Moiduddin Ahmedsir, apart from holding the prestigious position of Assistant Professor, Finance and General Management, is also a member of the sports committee, boys’ hostel office and the library committee.
With this, he justifies the “fruitful, enriching and prolific” nature of the institute. He finds the working environment conducive to academics for students as well as the faculty. “I have learnt a lot here,”he says.
Presently, a vital microcosm of Jaipuria-Noida, Ahmed sir has had rich experience in a wide variety of fields. His last job was at Babu Banarasi Das Institute of Management three years ago, preceded by a course in Integral University. But what catches one’s attention is the innate entrepreneurial streak in him. His starting his own business brings home the catalytic force that helped him construct a project on microenterprises. It’s no surprise that an insight into the chaiwala and panwala stay is part of his study.
In spite of the threat of an impending recession, India is doing quite well for its sustenance, he says. For those who wish to turn entrepreneurs, the professor’s wise words are, “In planning to start one’s own business, there is a need for passion.” Zeal, solely, will take one to the aspired state since only this vital element will help cross hurdles with confidence.Being a firm believer in an all-round development, Ahmad sir is glad that Jaipuria Institute of Management lays stress on co-curricular activities along with academics. There is an inside as well as outside classroom development,he says.
Personally, Prof Ahmed prefers the case-study mode of teaching. An application of the theory studied is important for one to make sense of it as well as the situational aspect of the same.Going by the Jaipuria Noida tradition, the mentor and his mentees put their heads together and discuss on forums pertaining to writing learnings, movie summaries, build contacts and develop the professional–personal bond between the faculty members and the students.

Management Catalytic to Dance, Says Prabhakar Awardee at Jaipuria-Noida

Choosing between a hobby that’s your passion and a profession can be difficult. And so it was for Sneha, a Prabhakar holder from Allahabad Prayas Samiti, in Kathak.
“When it came to picking one, I thought it wiser to go for a management course at Jaipuria-Noida.” To this passionate dancer, one who has been at it since grade 1, Jaipuria-Noida happened by chance. Seeing the lack of enthusiasm at other places, Sneha was initially dejected. Then, on her friends’ suggestions, she took admission at Jaipuria-Noida. Today, she couldn’t have been happier.
“The institute makes you feel that all the effort you’re putting in is worthwhile,” she says. Classroom teaching clubbed with case studies and lively discussions hold forth the significance of this prestigious course in management. The teachers are always willing to help. The class doesn’t end with lectures. In case of doubts, one can always run up to the teachers, Sneha says.
Kathak isn’t Sneha’s only passion. She has tried her hand at other styles as well, some of which include banjara nritya, freestyle, filmi and Odissi. However, paying heed to her parents’ advice, Sneha chose to pursue management.
“Today, I do not regret my decision.” Here, at Jaipuria-Noida, she’s on par with the other students intellectually. She can relate to them, share a bonding and gel with them on the academic level as well as on the co-curricular activity level. The hostels, with all the facilities, are resident-friendly.
With everything going for her at Jaipuria-Noida, Sneha has a piece of advice for all those who find
themselves on crossroads of making a career choice. It is vital to prepare a strong ground with a
professional degree in academics, she says. A degree in management, she says, will help one in one’s
pursuits later in life. “If one wants to extend the passion of dance and set up an academy, or even
organise stage shows, for that matter, managing it will not be tough if one is professionally qualified.”
An academic degree in this field will provide a platform to the form of art that neither dies nor is difficult
to carry out at any stage in life.
Line for the web site: She proves management, dance can go hand-in-hand.
