A part of their CSR activity, the Jaipuria Institute of Management or Jaipuria Institute on Management Noida hosted project “Muskaan” as a part of their college festival Udaan on November 26th 2011. This was done as an attempt to bring some smile and joy into the lives of underprivileged kids from organizations like Grace India and Oxfam.
The Jaipuria team had planned to start the event by bringing around 50 children from both orphanages to spend the day with their team members and volunteers, hoping to spread a little bit of happiness and joy into their lives. Initiated by their founder Dr. J.D Singh, this project has gained a lot of popularity and attention of both the students and faculties. The motto behind Muskaan was that being an educational institute, it is their right to spread knowledge and goodwill to those who cannot afford their own.
Being management students, the Jaipuria team behind Muskaan understood the need for CSR in today’s world. They decided to integrate this unique project with Udaan and started by announcing the project a week before Udaan was supposed to be held. This helped them collect hundreds of donated clothes, shoes, bed sheets and other items, some of them almost brand new. Sponsorship started pouring in soon, in the form of cash donations by both students and the faculties, leading them to collect almost Rupees 15,000 this year. Conglomerates and private firms like Shipra Ltd offered free meals for these children once they were brought to the campus.
Northwest group sent in their help in the form of cash elements, while stationary, books, colors and other products worth Rs.1000 was donated by Suvidha store. Coca Cola sent the Jaipuria team 5 Limca book of Records, that were used as prizes to give away to these children, while Jumpin offered free fruit drinks to them. Project Muskaan started with the organizing committee brining a group of underprivileged students to the Jaipuria campus.
The bus ride involved a lot of fun and games, followed by their arrival into the college campus. The group was split into above 12 and below 12 years for a special painting competition too, where the younger group had to participate in a poster making contest and the older group in a pot painting competition and this was followed by a movie screening, lunch and lastly, a cake cutting celebration. All in all, the young Jaipuria Noida members created a fun-filled and joyous day for these special children.
Dr Anup K. Singh, Director, Jaipuria, Noida said, that the purpose of initiating this event was to make the students learn to “contribute to society. This whole event was conceptualized to make our students more socially sensitive, and more socially responsible. This is a learning exercise for students- how to first conceptualize the project, how to identify the companies which may support this- on one hand this has been an exercise into management and on the other hand it is an exercise into altruism.”
