Investment Planning session held by Jaipuria Indore informs and inspires students

Students of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore recently went through a crucial session that proved to be an important learning experience – not just for their management ambitions, but for their lives, as well. After all, it was a session on Investment Planning and what an individual needs to know in order to make the right investment decisions. The institute prepares students to be successful professionals and leaders in their chosen field. This is not only about achieving their goals – it is also about earning potential and financial stability. Overall, this session delivered the important lesson that you can grow your money with discipline and right planning.

The biggest highlight of the session was the fact that it was conducted by Dr. Deepali Dixit, Assistant Director, Securities and Exchange Board of India. She is one of the leading names in the field and was a huge draw amongst the audience, which was comprised of students looking forward to the talk, as it offered a wealth of information that can have an impact on their future. Dr. Dixit was joined by Mr. Ankur Bhandari, and he started the session by giving a brief overview of investments and their huge significance for people’s financial goals.

It was probably just the right time for students in the audience to learn about investments so that they take the right measures as they begin professional careers. The eminent speakers then discussed different investment avenues available to young professionals, outlining the benefits of each. They talked about the pros and cons of different avenues and the factors that young professionals need to consider before putting their money into certain investments.

The Stock Market is often considered to be one of the most exciting and dynamic avenues for investments. However, it’s filled with its own set of risks, which detracts investors. But, Mr. Bhandari offered students insight into the market and asserted that investing in stocks was all about getting the basics right. He also did his best to make students aware of the benefits of investing in shares. Sharing a few experiences of his own and a video to make his point, he then emphasized on the importance of small investment planning, which can benefit young professionals in the long run.

The stage was thus set for Dr. Dixit to make students aware of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the role it plays in the Indian economy. She talked about the various responsibilities of SEBI and acquainted students with the functioning of the organization. Overall, it was an interactive session where students learned not only about the benefits of investing in the stock market, but the risks involved too. The session drove home the point that one should invest for long term gains rather than looking at short term results. As they learned about opportunities in the field, student went back home more knowledgeable and excited about the future.

Ayush Garg bags second place at an event held by IMA; discusses the beneficial initiatives by Jaipuria, Indore as the reasons behind his success

Ayush Garg, a student of PGDM 2015 at Jaipuria, Indore, recently did himself and his institute proud by bagging the second prize in a research and study event hosted by Indore Management Association. What makes his achievement noteworthy is the fact that his team had to fight off competition from 40 other teams who participated in the first round. Here, he talks about the competition and his passion for CIS, an initiative from his institute.

We begin with his newest achievement, and asked Ayush to elaborate on the nature of the competition. “It was all about a detailed presentation on your research and study performed to understand how we can reclaim India,” he tells us. “through various leadership requirements and convert them into management lessons.” Ayush’s management education gave him a solid foundation to succeed at this event; however, it also showcased another of his great qualities: his leadership.

The thing to note is that Ayush’s team consisted of juniors, which means he had to lead the way. It was a challenge he seemed to relish. He shares with us some of the times during the event where the team had to step up and elevate their approach: “The first instance was when we had to build a conceptual framework, which we then used to frame the overall presentation. Finally, we had to answer the questions posed by the judges during final round, which was challenging.”

There is definitely an air of confidence about the young man, and doing exceedingly well at a prestigious event might have a lot to do with that. But, according to Ayush, it was possible thanks to his learning at his institute: “Some of the things I learned here, including building a perspective on a topic, believing in yourself and presenting your ideas with confidence, helped me immensely through the competition.”

Ayush also talks about the Course on Independent Study, which was introduced as a part of the Jaipuria PGDM curriculum. It offers students an opportunity to study one less subject and carry out detailed research on a chosen topic. “I always wanted to explore and get deep into any particular subject matter, which drove me towards Social Commerce study,” he adds. “It’s a great opportunity for us students and I’m making the most out of it.”

While Ayush awaits the much deserved award (the ceremony is on the 7th of February), he dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and thanks his institute for instilling this belief in him. “Our institute started an entrepreneurship course, and there was the tie up with entrepreneurship promoting organization like NEN,” he says. “I would like to do something with everything we’ve been given, and become an entrepreneur in the education industry.” Ayush has his sights set on the future. And, judging by his early successes and the educational foundation provided by his institute, it is clear that he will reach his goals.

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore recently created an innovative program – ‘One Day MBA’. The program, an initiative of the admission committee, was developed for the students of Achievers Coaching, Bhopal. The objective was to create management awareness amidst the younger group of students.

The session began with a warm welcome to the participants and an introduction to the Program schedule and the day’s activities. Before involving the students, Dr. Pooja Kushwaha, Chair Admissions, explained the course details and benefits of the PGDM program and the MBA degree. Eager to hear more about Jaipuria Indore, students then watched a video that introduced them to the campus, student amenities, and facilities. In addition, new students learned about the variousevents that take place on campus each year, as well as the many groups and activities that they participate in.

Dr. Harshavardhan Halve, Director, Jaipuria Indore, addressed the gathering and shared his views about the challenges faced by the younger generation today. He expressed concern over the fact that this generation is busy comparing materialistic achievements rather than exploring self. He said, “One should work on self in terms of professional skills, knowledge, and personality and performance level. If an MBA graduate cannot talk about business for 10 minutes, their purpose of life has failed”. He also explained how a residential campus helps in better learning, understanding and employability. He asked students to always remember the 3 Cs: Confidence, Courage and Commitment.

The session continued with Professor Kalyani Parmal, Faculty Finance, and Mr. Gautam Pandey, Manager Admissions. They encouragedstudents and faculty to focus on making learning fun and enjoyable, and they demonstrated one approach to this with their “bucket game.” The game helped the students learn some of the essentials of management, like overcoming hurdles, coordination, good listening skills, leadership and team work.

Professor Charu Dubey, Faculty Business Communication, and Prof Devika Trehan, Faculty Business Communication, conducted the next module. In this exercise, students were divided into 5 teams, with each team developing a list of business ideas. After this they had to draw their business plan on a piece of chart paper in an attention-grabbing fashion. Further, they had to give a 3 minute presentation on the idea, which each team did with great success. The aim of this activity was to encourage innovative thinking among students. The teams were applauded for their innovative ideasby Mr. Abhishek Singh, Placement Manager. He also gave them constructive feedback to improve upon their ideas. Overall, the program, in delivering on its promise to foster interaction and education, was a resounding success for all in attendance.
