Student Deepak Meedha of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur is an entrepreneur by heart and is all set to get his dreams realised

Deepak Meedha, a current PGDM student of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur aspires to have his own event management company someday ‒ that is the motivation that pushes him to make the most out of his education and internship. Born and raised in Rajasthan, he opted for an MBA at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur, hoping to turn his dreams into reality. He has made steady progress so far, with the latest achievement being a Summer Internship Project with Pearson that includes a handsome stipend per month along with a work profile he wanted to. Obviously, Deepak is very excited about this opportunity: “I am looking forward to my SIP with Pearson that I have bagged after a stringent selection process. I believe self confidence, work experience and quick response helped me get this SIP. Of course, we are made to learn all these right from first day inside the classroom at Jaipuria. Every assignment subtly underlines the necessity of integrating confidence and spontaneity.” He further adds- “That this is a paid experience adds to its already huge value in my perspective! I am going to share my first pay with my family and am waiting to get started”.

At Pearson, Deepak will be managing events. Just what he wanted! His primary job role includes budgeting and scheduling events. Explaining his responsibility, Deepak states, “I will be working as a team lead with a five member team. Our aim is to positively impact the admission numbers for the organization, as well as ensure branding for it”.

Deepak belongs to Bikaner, Rajasthan. He is an entrepreneur at heart and is striving hard to learn to manage situations and people in a professional role. His decision to join the management program was based on this need, as well as advice from his family and mentors.

Deepak believes Jaipuria Institute of Management is one of the best decisions of his life. Not only is he acquiring the required skills, but he is also being supported to hone these skills in the work environment. “I am continually supported by my mentor from Jaipuria, and during my SIP I plan on continually seeking his guidance. Dr Abhijit Nair, the Asst. Dean of Jaipuria, Jaipur is my mentor and he has always motivated and guided me”.

SIP has already started teaching real life lessons to Deepak, the important ones being teamwork and meeting strict deadlines. He also has specific learning objectives in mind that include handling large events, working under pressure, working in a team and leading teams, and optimizing resources. Every day he picks up something new at work and moves another step closer to his ambitions!

“My SIP gives me the opportunity to understand the dynamics of real corporate rigmaroles,” says Shubham, PGDM, Class 2015 of Jaipuria Institute of Management who is currently interning with Pearson

“I just want to learn as much as I can, in this limited period of two months”, says Shubham Barthwal, PGDM Class of 2015, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur, who recently bagged a Summer Internship Project in Marketing and Event Management with Pearson. He is going to be attached with the marketing division during his internship, and will work on Pearson’s brand perception in the market through events specifically targeting children and their parents. Shubham explains the responsibilities of his position: “The objective is to reach the customer where Pearson’s reach has been limited. We will be marketing through events, and the important thing is to manage the event within the purview of the budgets that are allocated to me and my team”. The team gets together in the morning and plans for the day. A lot of time is also spent travelling around the Pearson school campus to understand the target audience and their locality in order to identify the venue for the event. The arrangements are meticulously managed by the team, and events are executed to perfection in the evening.

Shubham has been assigned a mentor Dr. Abhijit Nair, Associate Professor, Jaipuria Institute of Management, to help him optimize this opportunity. He says that there are some differences between the classroom and the corporate world: “Customer perception, sales, marketing are broad concepts, which when we learn in the classroom create an impression that things always have to be done in a particular way; however, in the real world there is scope for alternative ways. One has to be inventive and innovative while remaining knowledgeable of the industry”. A good SIP is a great way to learn, relearn and experiment. “There is a gap between academia and industry so far as student competency is concerned. It is important that the student work closely with the mentor during SIP who helps the student bridge the gap and become relevant in the industry”, explains Dr. Nair.

For Shubham, this paid SIP brings an opportunity to learn outside the classroom. He wants to learn how to adopt effective business practices, and to adapt to different work environments. This SIP has certainly opened the doors to professional world for him: “I feel confident today and want to share this happiness with my family. I am going to buy gifts for my family with my first pay and hopefully all our dreams will come true”.

The recent Industrial visit organized by Jaipuria Jaipur at Ginni International and Richlite Pvt. Ltd. exposed students to plethora of industry practices

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur recently organized industry visits for its students of PGDM Batch 2013-15, which turned out to be an enriching experience for them. The students had the opportunity to visit two reputed industries in Neemrana, Ginni International and Richlite Pvt. Ltd., on March 31st. This experience helped students get practical industry exposure and see how the concepts they learn at the institute are put into practice.

Ginni International Ltd. is a leading textile factory in Neemrana, Rajasthan and focuses on manufacturing denims. The highlight for the company is that 80% of its products are exported while only a 20% are sold locally in India. The company also employs 2000 workers, making a huge difference to the local economy. Richlite Pvt. Ltd., on the other hand, is a newly set up Biscuit manufacturing company, which today is doing its best to grow its market share.

Ginni International was the first stop on the day for students where they were briefed by HR and Training Manager Mr. S. K. Jena. He talked about the task of managing a large workforce and training them to work with the machines. The factory visit was an eye-opening experience for students as they got a chance to witness the process of making Denim and grill fabric. Students also realized the importance of seminars – the company organizes seminars on a regular basis to keep the morale of its workforce high.

One of the students, Ashish Kumar Mishra, pointed out, “We got an insight into the working environment of the company and how it functions. We also got information related to practical aspects of the concepts learned in our programme, which simply cannot be visualized in classroom lectures.” According to student Tuhina Rani, “The chance to interact with industry associates, sharing their views and concerns for workers and the understanding of the production process, made the experience truly worth it.”

The group then headed to Richlite Ltd. where they could witness the process of making biscuits firsthand. Right from converting raw flour through various stages of mixing, moulding, baking, cooling and packing, students observed all the processes involved and gained important insight into them. The General Manager, HR, then talked more about the training program the company offers its employees. Students also learned about motivational initiatives for workers and initial marketing techniques used by the company.

With Richlite Ltd. being a new organization, it was interesting for students to see how it planned to grow in the future. They were told about the long term plans the company has, which made a lot of sense to future management professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs in the group. One of them, Shweta Parihar, had an interesting take on the visit: “We discovered a whole new world today and it made one thing clear; it’s easy to eat biscuits but very difficult to make them.” Clearly, the students had come back with some food for thought.

Sanjay Mehta from Jaipuria, Jaipur earns a placement with Ujjivan Financial Services Pvt Ltd.; opens doors for opportunities to grow

Growing up in a simple, middle class family in Amritsar, Sanjay Mehta dreamed big and wished to conquer the world of finance. That is the reason why he made his way to Jaipuria, Jaipur, a place with a brilliant reputation, as well as a fee structure that, he says, suited his father’s modest pockets. The institute is where his dreams were nurtured and are now on the way of being fulfilled as he’s bagged a job with Ujjivan Financial Services Pvt Ltd.

The company is focuses on the urban poor and operates within one of the fastest growing segments, relatively new to India’s microfinance industry. 

Sanjay is pleased to the punch after going through a very competitive placement process. Now he will be working as a Management Associate with a company that offers him the best platform to grow further in his professional career. When asked about his job profile, Sanjay says candidly, “It is a kind of profile where you need to understand customers and be very clear about the management fundamentals. Thankfully, my two years at the institute have prepared me for this challenge.”

What Sanjay is most excited about is the fact that he’s found placement with a company that is in keeping with his goals for the future. Sanjay is definitely happy with the choice he’s made and is raring to go with the company. Talking about the future, he says, “There are many opportunities to grow. Since I will be a part of NBFC, new licensing of banks will open doors for further growth. I don’t know what I will be able to bring to the job as such, but I am pretty sure that I will make my mark and raise the bar for my colleagues to come.”

This kind of confidence sits well with a man who believes that “Attitude is more important than IQ.” However, Sanjay reveals something that might surprise some people. He says that while he excelled in his academic career, he struggled with his confidence. That changed when he joined Jaipuria, Jaipur, which has been the catalyst in his overall growth: “I learned to stay focused on my goals and being consistent in all that I did,” he says, gratefully. “The institute also moulded my personality to a great extent. The learning here helps you become a better individual, team member and citizen.”

After gaining a great deal from his PGDM program at the institute, Sanjay highly recommends it to management aspirants of the future. “It’s an extremely competitive world out there and a well-rounded program like this helps you make your unique identity,” he says. “It lets you have a practical approach and works on the all-important presence of mind, which goes a long way in your professional careers.”

Jaipuria, Jaipur student, Krishna Kant Sharma, a small town boy, grabs the big opportunity of working with ICICI Securities

Whilst growing up in a small village outside Aligarh, Krishna Kant Sharma harboured big dreams. He wanted to pursue an MBA and get a foothold into the highly-competitive corporate world. He realised that this dream needed suitable support, which could only be provided by a reputable B-school in the country. That’s what made him decide on Jaipuria, Jaipur. Given his current status, it seems it was the best decision he could have made.

Today, Krishna Kant Sharma has embarked on his professional journey by bagging a job with ICICI Securities, and the world appears to be his oyester.

But Krishna remains well aware of the milestones of his journey, as well as the challenges he faced along the way. He reminiscences about his time at the institute, and says, “I can never forget those two years of my life. I had heard about Jaipuria Institute of Management, its four campuses and the centralised system it has. That made perfect sense to me. I also got a positive feedback about the institute from my elders. I realised that it could offer me many opportunities to build my personality and knowledge base. That’s the reason it was the only institute I considered for my PGDM,” he said.

And from day one, his learning experience was comprehensive and his growth tremendous, says Krishna. He thanks his faculty members at the institute who were always available to support, guide and motivate him through the program. He believes that the management concepts he learned at the institute will stay with him through his professional journey and the unique teaching methods will have a long-lasting impact.

Krishna’s summer internship with Amul Ice Cream in Jaipur was another exciting experience for him. He worked in the sales department and got a chance to see how the management concepts taught in theory were applied in a practical sense. Since he will also be working in sales with his new employers, he believes his SIP experience will be invaluable and enable him to make his mark.

Talking about his new role of a Senior Relationship Manager with ICICI Securities Krishna says, “My goal will be to meet the revenue target across a certain set of customers by mastering client relationship. I will also be responsible for providing solutions for customers by evaluating their financial needs. Preparing and maintaining sales calls reports and all relevant MIS will be another responsibility I will have to handle.”

Clearly, Krishna is well aware of the task at hand when he switches roles from being a management student to a professional. He believes this is an important transition for aspirants, and one that is facilitated by pursuing a professional degree program like he did. “The course I did from Jaipuria has huge relevance in today’s world. It is packed with many activities including presentations and role playing that develop students’ personalities and communication skills. These are important aspects of being a manager in the corporate world, and the program prepares you well for that,” he says. With the backing he’s received from his institute, Krishna has made a solid start in his professional journey. And this is only the beginning for the young man from a small village, who is ready to go places and make a lasting impact.

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur Hosts 3-Day MDP on Rajbhasha (Hindi)

The Jaipuria Institute of Management recently hosted a three-day Management Development Program (MDP) on Rajbhasha (Hindi) at its Jaipur campus. It was held from December 26 to 28, and drew 33 participants from the Power Grid Corporations, Ltd.

The theme of the workshop was the use of the Hindi language as a statutory requirement in business. Participants spent three days in sessions which highlighted the growing importance of this topic. The event was highly successful because of participants’ enthusiasm and interest in the topic and in the MDP sessions.

The first day of the program started with a welcome address by Dr. Prabhat Pankj, Director of the Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur. He highlighted the use of Hindi in the Indian Constitution as an official language. His message was especially well-timed because Rajbhasha (Hindi) has grown in importance during recent years. After this relevant introduction by Dr. Pankj, the MDP sessions began in earnest.

The first session was hosted by Shri Prem Singh, a resource expert, who covered the topics of the statutory requirements of Rajbhasha (Hindi) usage in official and government- functions and procedures and for preparing a checklist of activities to be undertaken for implementing Rajbhasha (Hindi). In addition to these topics Mr. Singh also discussed the President’s Orders on the recommendations of the Committee of Parliament on the official language. Mr. Singh also led a session explaining the President’s Order-1960, the Official Languages Act-1963, the Official Languages Resolution-1968, and the Official Languages Rules-1976. The sessions were extremely informative and were a huge success with the participants. As one attendee stated: “Mr. Singh condensed a lot of complicated information into palatable bits that made it easy for us to understand. I was thoroughly impressed with the session.”

The next session was conducted by Professor S. P. Garg, a faculty member of the Jaipuria Institute of Management-Jaipur. His topic was the use of Hindi through practical approaches such as writing in Hindi, ANUVAD KI PRATIBHA, translating English into Hindi, and writing memos/circular/notices for official purposes. Following this session, Dr. Vichar Das, a resource expert, highlighted the provisions set down by the Central Hindi Training Institutes (CHTI) and the Central Translation Bureau (CTB) to the participants.

A final presentation was made by Ms. Akriti Jain, a student PGDM, 2012-2014, on a lighter topic – motivation and happiness.

Participants who attended the three-day program said they found the experience to be a highly-rewarding one. As one remarked: “The three-day MDP was brilliant. I learned so much about Hindi and I am ready to carry this information over into the real world.” Such responses proved the MDP was a rewarding experience for all that attended.
