46 AIMA’s event “Shaping Young Minds” hits the right notes with the young students of Jaipuria, Lucknow

Jaiupuria, Lucknow recently sponsored 46th AIMA’s (All India Management Association) flagship event “Shaping Young Minds”. The one day event was held in collaboration with Lucknow Management Association (LMA) and brought together some of the leading lights from different walks of life. It was an enriching experience for the students who had thronged to the venue, Scientific Convention Centre, Lucknow, which was buzzing with enthusiasm all around.

In keeping with the theme of the event, there were many young and ambitious minds in the audience who were looking forward to listening to eminent personalities. They weren’t to be disappointed as Mr. A. K. Mathur, Secretary, LMA took to the stage and shared the mission of AIMA. “We sensitize and capitalize individuals and communities to enhance their potentials,” he said and set the balling rolling on a rousing note.

Mr. Sumer Agarwal, Sr. Vice President, LMA then gave the welcome address to the gathering. He also had helpful pointers to young aspirants in the audience keen on finding their way to new heights of success. According to him it’s important to, “Concentrate on doing things that you are good at and building on your potential. You have to work hard to make your way to success rather than taking any shortcuts.”

It was a point that resonated with Ankita Jain, student of Jaipuria, Lucknow as she said, “It was a very important learning for me. I realized that the path you take to get to your destination is more important than the destination itself.” But there were more learning pointers and take homes for the students as it was time to listen to four achievers in their respective fields. By sharing their own experiences, they made their points easily relatable for the students.

Mr. Raj Mehta, Former Army Officer and Author, Mr. Muzaffar Ali, noted Indian Film Maker; Mr. Aquil Busrai, Chief Executive Officer, Aquil Busrai Consulting and Mr. Deepak Vohra, Veteran Diplomat and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea Bissau were the renowned speakers at the event. It was interesting to see that it was not only successes but failures that they emphasized on because they are stepping stones to success in many ways.

Through their words filled with passion and of course a lot of experience, the speakers urged the young hopefuls to work towards building an integrated, synergized and united India. The event came to a conclusion with a vote of thanks from Mr. A. K. Mathur, who then stressed on the importance of passion while doing things professionally as well. That will lead to setting of standards that are good enough for our country, he believed.

The event had gone on to help students believe in their true potential and their country’s as well. Khushal Khanna, another student at the institute commented on that by saying, “The talks were not only a learning experience but also ignited the fire in us to do our best for ourselves and our country.” While the take home for Sourick Sinha was, “Each one of us matters; all we need to do is believe in ourselves.” That then is mission accomplished for the event.

Jaipuria Lucknow hosts IS Conclave that unravels the mysteries around E-commerce

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow hosted its Information Systems Conclave on the 13th of December, 2014. “Sailing the E-commerce Boat” was the theme for the day that brought experts in the exciting and dynamic industry to the campus. E-commerce has changed the face of business for many and is here to stay. Hence it seemed apt for the students at the institute to get an insight on how the industry works and opportunities that lay ahead.

Mr Neelabh Srivastav, Founder, Greenfield IT Solutions and Mr. Subhashish Roy, IT Security Consultant, Trendsetterz IT Services Pvt. Ltd were the esteemed guests for the events and they touched upon all varied topics including working of E-commerce, cloud computing and related security reasons. The venue was filled with students waiting in anticipation as they were keen to learn all about this new age business medium.

The conclave began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a welcome speech by Dr. Ankit Mehrotra, Chairperson – PGDM, Jaipuria, Lucknow. He gave a brief overview of what one could expect from the conclave before handing over the stage to Mr. Srivastav. “The Enigmatic Commerce: Shifting Paradigm to look different” was the topic of his talk and through it he explained the emphasis of Ecommerce in our day to day lives.

E-commerce has definitely taken the world by storm and according to Mr. Srivastav it’s because of, “Benefits like saving time, more variety, less crowd, less taxes. However there is still lot of enigma about Ecommerce even today, especially when it comes to Hindi literature. That’s where the idea for my portal came from,” he says. He also talked about 3D retailing of Omni Channel Commerce to give students relevant examples from the industry.

Mr. Srivastav’s portal is Notnull that enables intellectuals to connect with each other. There are several research articles that those interested can access as well. Elaborating more on his venture, he says, “It is a platform to gain knowledge about creative stuff. The portal has got lot of success. Hindi for the first time got visibility through our website because there aren’t many Hindi literature magazines that you can find online.”

After that insight about the industry from Mr. Srivastav, it was time to focus on two other crucial elements of E-commerce; finance and security. “PCI Compliance: Confidence towards boosting consumer’s transaction” was the theme for the session by Mr. Roy and he began by saying, “Goal of PCI DSS is to protect information from cards and holders, defining a set of security requirements. Data Security status in banks needs attention.”

According to Mr. Roy, the service providers to banks also need to play their role by keeping up with the advancements. He then went on explain the Modus Operandi of Cashless Transactions. He believes the prerequisites for any cashless transactions are, “Infrastructure spread, technology, connectivity, data security, physical security, customer education and knowledge, customer friendly operations.”

To those who wish to start their E-commerce business, Mr. Roy had useful advice. “It is definitely going places, but you have to identify your target audience before taking the plunge. Know what you want to sell and its utility too. Focus on the thrust area for your ecommerce business. It’s important to be the Jack of one trade and master it too,” he thus concluded his talk and the conclave that offered students an insiders’ view of Ecommerce.

Jaipuria Institute of Management is all Set to Answer the Demand of around 2 Lakh Business Analysts in the Coming Years

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur recently organized the first workshop on Business Analytics. The two-day workshop had two goals in mind: first, to make students aware of the role of analytics in the industry; second, through several discussions on research approaches, design and processes, and with the help of experts and faculty members from the institute, the workshop tried to delve deep into the world of Business Analytics. Overall, it turned out to be a fruitful exercise with the promise of more to come in the near future.

The theme of the workshop has gained in significance in recent times, especially since media reports state that the Business Analytics industry is functioning on the back of merely 15000 to 20000 professionals. There will be a demand for around 2 lakh business analysts in the coming years. Knowledge of this information forced the workshop to focus on prerequisites for professionals to embark in a career in business analytics and research. Needless to say, the workshop drew the attention of students from both years of the PGDM program.

While Mathematics, Statistics and IT skills have been a stronghold of Indian students, there is a need to combine business analytics with their computational abilities. That was the great benefit of the workshop – it did everything in its power to equip participants with the knowledge, skills and tools to make it as a business analyst. From applications of business analytics to understanding the research process, sampling techniques to understanding data and variables, the workshop tried to cover all the important aspects of the field.

Of course, there was a special emphasis on handling real-life industry analytics problems, which was of great help to the participants. To acquaint students with the real world situations, there were expert professionals in attendance, including Mr. Vicky Bansal, Research Manager, Gartner Research and Advisory, India, and Mr. Ashish Sharma, Manager, Copal Amba Research. Dr. Prabhat Pankaj, Director, Jaipuria, Jaipur, also conducted a session along with other faculty members of the institute.

Prof. Prashant Sharma, Coordinator, Business Analytics, delivered sessions on understanding the research process and environment, sampling methods and techniques, understanding the data and variables, and basics of data analysis on SPSS. The informative sessions helped students better understand these important, and relevant, concepts. Dr. S. K. Pandey, Assistant Professor, Jaipuria, Jaipur, focussed on the optimization for Google searches. He also highlighted various academic and industry data sources that can aid students in their education and professional careers. Then it was Mr. Pankaj’s turn to lead a review session, which, of course, was quite helpful, as he managed to engage students by creating a live research problem. This prepared students for the following talk on the real-world impact of Business Analytics by leading industry experts Mr. Bansal and Mr. Sharma. They elaborated on the role of analytics and discussed practical industry research problems. As a result, students not only had an understanding of the concepts but valuable insight into the industry as well.

The participants of the workshop returned with their eyes opened about the importance of Business Analytics. They were now looking forward to the next workshop aimed at providing hands on experience on statistical and econometric packages, SPSS, R and E-views. Given the success of this workshop, a lot will be expected of the next one that will be held in October.

The recent Industrial visit organized by Jaipuria Jaipur at Ginni International and Richlite Pvt. Ltd. exposed students to plethora of industry practices

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur recently organized industry visits for its students of PGDM Batch 2013-15, which turned out to be an enriching experience for them. The students had the opportunity to visit two reputed industries in Neemrana, Ginni International and Richlite Pvt. Ltd., on March 31st. This experience helped students get practical industry exposure and see how the concepts they learn at the institute are put into practice.

Ginni International Ltd. is a leading textile factory in Neemrana, Rajasthan and focuses on manufacturing denims. The highlight for the company is that 80% of its products are exported while only a 20% are sold locally in India. The company also employs 2000 workers, making a huge difference to the local economy. Richlite Pvt. Ltd., on the other hand, is a newly set up Biscuit manufacturing company, which today is doing its best to grow its market share.

Ginni International was the first stop on the day for students where they were briefed by HR and Training Manager Mr. S. K. Jena. He talked about the task of managing a large workforce and training them to work with the machines. The factory visit was an eye-opening experience for students as they got a chance to witness the process of making Denim and grill fabric. Students also realized the importance of seminars – the company organizes seminars on a regular basis to keep the morale of its workforce high.

One of the students, Ashish Kumar Mishra, pointed out, “We got an insight into the working environment of the company and how it functions. We also got information related to practical aspects of the concepts learned in our programme, which simply cannot be visualized in classroom lectures.” According to student Tuhina Rani, “The chance to interact with industry associates, sharing their views and concerns for workers and the understanding of the production process, made the experience truly worth it.”

The group then headed to Richlite Ltd. where they could witness the process of making biscuits firsthand. Right from converting raw flour through various stages of mixing, moulding, baking, cooling and packing, students observed all the processes involved and gained important insight into them. The General Manager, HR, then talked more about the training program the company offers its employees. Students also learned about motivational initiatives for workers and initial marketing techniques used by the company.

With Richlite Ltd. being a new organization, it was interesting for students to see how it planned to grow in the future. They were told about the long term plans the company has, which made a lot of sense to future management professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs in the group. One of them, Shweta Parihar, had an interesting take on the visit: “We discovered a whole new world today and it made one thing clear; it’s easy to eat biscuits but very difficult to make them.” Clearly, the students had come back with some food for thought.
