“My Favourite Brand” at Jaipuria Indore was about a fun exercise to bring the basics of Branding home

An out of the box classroom exercise was held for the students of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore recently as it not only worked on their communication skills but made them aware of concepts like brand loyalty and value as well. Organized by the Marketing club of the institute “My Favourite Brand” was an activity that hit the point home with the students as they related their own personal experiences. Thus the initiative served its purpose of helping students understand the importance of users’ connection with brands and marketing aspects involved in the process.

The task in front of the students was fairly straightforward; they had to talk about their favourite brand for two minutes. But as they talked about their love and loyalty for their chosen brand they could see the bigger picture as they realized what consumers look for when they build a bond with a particular brand.

Needless to say, students put their best foot forward during the contest and came up with arguments that were quite becoming of budding management professionals. Vivek Pathak, student of the 2014-16 Batch who spoke about Dettol as his favourite brand was adjudged the winner. “The brand has been used by my family for a long time. Whenever there are cuts and bruises in the family, Dettol is a trusted name,” was his winning reply. His reward for winning the contest was a book on Branding, which he intends to put to good use at the earliest.

Other participants who talked about various brands like Apple, Dove, Red Tape Shoes and more, might not have won a book on the subject but they certainly went back home richer in understanding of branding. They were also awarded Certificates of Participation but it was the huge learning experience this activity offered them that the students cherished the most. The exercise turned out to be a fruitful one also because the participants’ communication skills were called into play and they learned to put their points across in an effective manner.

Jaipuria Noida hosts annual fest – Udaan 2014!

Udaan is the annual festival of Jaipuria Institute of Management held in the spirit of combining learning with fun. Over the years, Udaan has developed into a brand in the region and attracts participation from several institutes. Udaan 2014 beautifully carried the tradition of previous years in a very ‘2014ish’ chic ensemble.

Held in September, Udaan 2014 was a resounding success. It began with Dr.Rajeev Thakur, Director Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, and Professor Nimit, welcoming the Guest of Honor Lt.Rita Gangwani, Former Officer, Indian Army, one of the most dynamic and impressive personalities to visit the Jaipuria Noida campus. Lt.Gangwani declared the event open and addressed the students, motivating them and filling them with the courage to achieve. “It is important to align your mind, body and soul to achieve success”, she said as she took the podium. She continued, saying that in life what matters is ‘values’: “A hundred rupee note always will be valued at a hundred even when it is crushed or becomes old”. She left a marked impression on the audience, with student Neha saying, “I have never met anyone with such command and poise”. Mr. Abhijit Nair proposed the vote of thanks and handed the stage to the organisers to begin the events.

This year, Udaan saw participation from NIILM, NDIM, ABS, Dayalsingh College, Kirorimal (Delhi University), IMS Noida, IMS Ghaziabad, Bharati College, ABES, ITS, Bharti Vidhyapeeth, Deshbandhu College, Kamla Nehru, Amity University Noida, and Symbiosis Noida. The first event was a Treasure Hunt, which was won Lokendra Sharma and Mohammad Rizwan from ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad. The runner-ups were Aman Maheshwari and Mayur Aggarwal from IMS, Ghaziabad. Another event, PHOTOMONTAGE, had a theme of ‘India 2020’ and was judged by Mr.V.K. Parsai. And, in a nice surprise, the winning and runner-up teams were from Amity University. KOLAM, the Rangoli competition had the theme of ‘Incredible India’, and was judged by Mrs. Sakshi Shukla (alumnus of JIM Noida). Students presented beautiful aspects of cultural, traditional and royal India via powerpoint. First prize was bagged by NDIM Delhi and the runner-up team was from Amity University. Camouflage, the face painting competition, had the theme of ‘Wild Life’, and was won by Nischint and Satyajit from NIILM and Simran and Shubhanshi from Jaipuria Noida. ‘Radio Mania’ had Saurabh Singhal (ABP news) as the guest of honor. He awarded Abhimanyu from NDIM Delhi as the winner and Eti Gupta from NIILM CMS as the runner-up. The ‘Bollywood Gyan quiz’ was won by Itee Gupta and Siddharth from NIILMS CMS. Following them as first runner-up were the team of Disha Sharma and Anmol Bhasin from NDIM, while the second runner-up was the team of Alka Rawat fromIMS Noida.

‘Razzmatazz’ and ‘Mystique’, the two most popular events, were won by the host institute for the fifth year in a row! “We are so glad that these students have bagged the titles and made our alma mater proud”, shared an obviously excited Rohan. The beatific title of Miss Mystique was bestowed upon Shubhangi, and Navneet Tyagi was crowned Mister Mystique! The faces of Mystique Ethnic were Shruti Joshi and Abhishek Bharadwaj, and the faces of Mystique Glamour were Astha Uniyal and Himanshu.

Udaan 2014 came to a scintillating end with the Star Night that saw performances of A Bazz and Gucci Armani fame Simranjeet.

The magical Mumbai Dabbawalas in Jaipuria Lucknow

“They are uneducated, but they are well versed in their job. They are carrying forward a 125 year old system!” Mr. Pawan G. Agarwal, Director Mumbai Dabbawala Education Centre, explained with a smile. He was talking about managing and coordinating the large fleet of dabbawalas in Mumbai. He adds, “For them, work is worship. They are punctual and self-motivated; hence, the job of managing them becomes trouble free”. The interaction took place on the 20th of September, 2014 at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow. Mr. Agarwal is hailed as a management guru and international motivational speaker. He has shared his immense insights into supply chain management on various platforms. The session at Jaipuria Lucknow was conducted by CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) and YI (Young Indians). Mr.Pawan G. Agarwal was joined on stage by Mr. Kunwar Himmat Singh (Associate Vice President- Nestle India Limited), Mr. Gaurav Prakash (Chair, Yi Lucknow Chapter), Mr.Divij Narain (Co-chair, Yi Lucknow Chapter and Director Speed Motors Pvt. Ltd), Mr.Alok Shukla (Deputy Director, CII, UP State Office) and Dr. Pankaj Gupta (Director General, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow).

The session began with the guests lighting the ceremonial lamp, invoking Ma Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning. Mr.Vipul V. Gaur, Chair Yi Yuva, Lucknow Chapter, delivered the opening address and invited Jaipuria students to learn from the experienced and knowledgeable guest speaker.

Dabbawala is a person in India, most commonly found in the city of Mumbai, who is employed in a unique service industry. His primary business is collecting freshly cooked food in lunch boxes from the residences of the office workers, delivering it to their respective workplaces and returning the empty boxes back to the customer’s residence by using various modes of transport.The Dabbawalas scripted their own history by a showcase of excellence in customer service for 125 years. They have garnered a lot of global attention from noted personalities, such as Prince Charles and Richard Branson, earned Six Sigma and ISO certification, and, in the process, have become a case study at Harvard Business School.

The Dabbawala Foundation and the Happy Life Welfare Society have now jointly launched a campaign, ‘Share My Dabba’, an initiative to get food left over in dabbas to hungry street children, using just a tiny ‘share sticker’ and the extensive dabbawalanetwork. Every day, 200 thousand children on Mumbai’s streets remain hungry, and every day, 2 of them die of hunger. The Mumbai Dabbawalas deliver 120 tons of food everyday out of which 16 tons is left uneaten. Explaining the initiative, Mr. Agarwal said, “This is where the initiative kicks in. We have distributed a set of stickers that reads ‘share’, with our customers who can stick it on their uneaten dabbas which will then be sorted and shared with the needy.”

Apart from the complicated logistics of delivering dabbas, Mumbai as a city brings with it several challenges like monsoons and public transport. “The dabbawalas”, says Mr. Agarwal, “face every challenge with commitment and enthusiasm. We have a strong determination and for us the ‘Customer is God’, so we try our best to make them happy. Degrees and knowledge are secondary but working passionately is important. Very important. We are not working for Six Sigma but for customer satisfaction. Our main mode of transportation is local trains and still our service remains uninterrupted throughout the year. ” Mr. Agarwal concluded the session with a remarkable suggestion: “Honesty, loving, caring, and being truthful are the qualities not only of a Dabbawalas, but those that should also be practiced by others.”

Convocation Day Celebration at Jaipuria Institute of Management, 8th August, 2014

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur Campus celebrated its seventh Annual Convocation in which 81 students were awarded AICTE approved PGDM degree. The event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest -Yaduvendra Mathur, IAS, CMD- Export-Import Bank of India, Sharad Jaipuria –Chairman, Shreevats Jaipuria -Vice-Chairman -Jaipuria Group of Institutions. Among the other dignitaries present were Dr. Ashok Bapna, Member, Planning Board, and Dr. Kamal Mathur, Director, NIAM.

Shri. Mathur in his convocation address emphasized upon the importance of quality of products being manufactured for consumption at domestic level and export, and services being rendered. If India to become a global power, it needs to focus on quality innovation and research and managers working in an organization can significantly contribute towards the same.

The Chairman of the group Sharad Jaipuria emphasized on creating ambitions beyond our state and nation and marching into future with achievement and pride. He also shared that he is happy, satisfied and anxious at the same time that the students have entered corporate lives making a mark of their own. The Vice-Chairman Shreevats Jaipuria highlighted the importance of focusing upon experience first and not just the salary. “The net worth of a professional is equal to what you make of yourself”, he added.

The Director of the institute Dr. Prabhat Pankaj in his address urged students to remember that learning is a “cradle to-grave” process and there is nothing like “I have done enough”. He reiterated that students need to work with a deep sense of service to people.

One the occasion Sagar Agarwal was awarded Chairman’s Gold Medal, Ashima Grover was awarded Vice- Chairperson’s Silver Medal and the Vice- Chairperson’s Silver Medal was awarded to Ankita Saini and Puja Bajoria. Awards in the categories of discipline toppers were given to Govind Prasad Sharma and Nikita Shirley Thomas in Marketing Discipline, Ashima Grover in Finance Discipline, and Joel M. Mathew in HRM Discipline.

Placements at Jaipuria for the batch 2012-14 has been 100 %. The average salary was 2.92 lakhs and median salary was 3 lakhs. The highest salary offered was Rs. 5.68 lakhs per annum by Carlsberg.

I am Richard George, and I think from now on the word that describes me the best will be “Jaipurian”. I understand that students of Jaipuria Institute of Management transform their efforts into fruitful results and that’s what I would like to do. I was born in Gorakhpur but raised in Lucknow, so studying on the campus of the institute here has worked out well for me.

I would like to think that I have always been an excellent student, and I was looking for a college that will encourage me to excel further. I found that Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow would be the best place to bring out my talents and transform my personality. I believe it will prepare me for the competitive environment of the corporate world.

The orientation program at Jaipuria, Lucknow was the perfect example of learning while having fun. We had a chance to hear from big names like Mr. Navneet Sakera, Mr. Jagdish Kini and Mr. Achal Rangaswamy. They not only made us question our dreams, but they also broadened our horizons and motivated us to pave the road with hard work to achieve our goals.

We were taught to manage our minds rather than time, which was quite helpful. We also learned to have the right approach to achieve our goals and how to refine our minds to grasp various concepts and ideas. The importance of good communication skills was drilled into us and I believe these are the qualities for true managers who are at the top of their game.

There was an amazing session of “Eagles cocoon and Self-Clarity”, which was very insightful. The orientation program has given me a fresh perspective on my dreams and filled me with more confidence to turn them into reality. My experience at Jaipuria, Lucknow has been brilliant so far and I believe the institute will bring out the best in me. For me, Jaipuria is a lifestyle and it will shape my future beautifully.”

“The reputation of Jaipuria Institute of Management precedes itself,” says Richa Puri who hopes to add value to its sterling brand image.

I was pursuing my degree from Bhopal when I heard about Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore. I knew it was a relatively new institute but ever since its inception, the school’s reputation has been growing by leaps and bounds. From my friends to kins, everyone was talking about the new Jaipuria campus of Indore and the quality of education that it has been delivering to its students. When I visited the campus, I instantly made up my mind that this was the institute where I would follow my management aspirations.

The campus made me feel at home. It has been 18 days since I have come here but I have not missed home even once. The orientation program was very helpful and different workshops like theatre, yoga and aerobics have built my personality. My self-confidence has received a major boost already. The ambience of the institute and the activities it undertakes creates a platform for students to learn every step of the way.

The early stages of the orientation programs brought many prominent speakers to the campus. It was brilliant to get an opportunity to learn from such imminent personalities. The faculty members at the institute are guiding us at every step. I think the mentorship program is a nice concept because it helps us understand the basic aspects of being managers, and it outlines ways to improve ourselves individually and as part of a team.

The educational system followed by the institute has interesting concepts of teaching and it doesn’t rely only on bookish knowledge. It grooms our personality as a whole. Every moment I spend on campus I feel proud to be a part of the Jaipuria family. The infrastructure, facilities and resources add to my learning. Jaipuria, Indore has a brilliant brand image and I will definitely try to add value to it.

I am Nikita Srivastava from Allahabad and I graduated from Meerut. I completed my engineering degree but realized that practical knowledge and in-depth analysis of applied skills is crucial in the corporate world. The orientation program at Jaipuria, Lucknow was a lot about introspection and self-exposure. I hail from Jabalpur and have spent most of my life there before I came to Indore for my PGDM. I believe that life is a book and for me a new chapter has started with Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore. I am looking forward to this new chapter because the institute has a unique education culture that gives me the opportunity to evolve at my own pace. It works towards my overall development, and I feel it will make me a better individual.

The 15 day induction program has already brought about a change in me. The session began with helpful advice from experts in the field, and several activities were also conducted for our benefit. The institute has already changed my notions about education because I have realized that it’s not just about classroom learning. I love the fact that the institute focuses on peer learning.

Jaipuria Institute of Management gives you diverse opportunities like IMP CHISEL (winter internship programme), Summer Internship Programme and also IDP (Individual Development Programme), in which every student is groomed to develop his or her overall persona and become a successful manager. We get to learn a lot not only from the experienced faculty members but industry experts as well. Also, I am very excited about the mentorship program where each faculty member is assigned 5-6 students to mould them into future professionals. Undoubtedly, the B-school’s curriculum and daily operations are very student-centric, giving students the maximum exposure and primary importance.

The student life at the institute is fun and engaging. You get to be a part of several activities that are student-driven and work towards building leadership skills. “I am all set to have two phenomenal years ahead with Jaipuria Institute of Management”- Madyantika Mehra

My name is Madyantika Mehra and I am from Ajmer. I was looking for a college that would groom me into a management professional, which is why I joined Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore. I love the campus. It is far away from the maddening crowd and hustle- bustle of the city. It’s green and peaceful, which makes it an ideal learning environment.

Of course, I was filled with doubts about the program and whether I had made the right decision. However, I was filled with excitement and promise because of the PGDM program, and with each passing day I realize that Jaipuria Institute of Management was absolutely the right choice. Dr. J.P. Upadhyay, Director, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore started the orientation program on a high note and there have been several guest speakers and renowned names in the industry who shared their valuable experience with us.

Besides learning about management concepts, we were given a healthy dose of spirituality in the program. Workshops like “art of living”, “know your true self” and yoga helped me discover my strengths and weaknesses. There were interesting games to keep things lively and fun. I was particularly interested in the “Jaipuria Got Talent” contest as it offered me an opportunity to launch a radio station. Oh yes, it did!

I am thrilled about the mentorship program because it helps us stay focused, builds an emotional bond with the mentor, and creates a comfort zone. Interactive sessions and conceptual learning are an integral part of classroom teaching. Jaipurians are groomed in an environment where the theory and practical are fused together for daily understanding of the business environment.

The hostel life has been one rollercoaster ride and seniors helped us settle in quickly with a big smile on their faces. The journey is already turning out to be special in more ways than one and I am all set to have two phenomenal years ahead.

"Your mentor sees you through your internship,” says Shubham Pandey, Jaipuria Lucknow

“Your mentor is the one who sees you through your internship,” says Shubham Pandey, Class of 2015, Jaipuria Lucknow, interning with Bajaj Electrical Ltd.

“Summer Internship Project is an opportunity that each student should grab and make the most of it while it lasts”, says Shubham Pandey of Jaipuria Institute of Management. He has been placed with Bajaj Electrical Ltd., for his summer internship project.

Shubham is a commerce student and belongs to the city of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. He completed his education in commerce and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration from Lucknow University. It was a careful and conscious effort to build a career in management, which began with a degree from Lucknow University. Now, Shubam is at Jaipuria Institute of Management to fulfill his goal of higher studies in management. Jaipuria Institute of Management is India’s one of the Top MBA Colleges in Lucknow having campuses in Noida (Delhi-NCR), Jaipur, and Indore. Jaipuria Institute of Management is offering PGDM courses in Retail Management, Financial Services, Marketing, and Service Management. Since Shubham arrived at the B-school in 2013, he has been working hard to find his place within the corporate structure.

Bajaj Electricals Ltd. interviewed him on campus and he believes the selection has provided him with a great opportunity to learn with the best. And, he is excited about the project that he has been assigned to: “I have been assigned to do a market survey by Bajaj Electrical Ltd. I have to study the market for Bajaj LED lights, which is a new product from the Bajaj stable in the Lucknow region.”

He received a thoroughly professional reception at the organization. On day one, he was handed over to an industry mentor who oriented him to the company, its organizational structure, and its various functions. He was then briefed about his work during the entire internship period. The clarity helped Shubam focus himself on the coming work and time: “My first day at Bajaj was built around getting to know my organization and the work I was expected to carry out. The onboarding helped me find my way and also facilitated the learning process”.

Shubham has also been assigned a mentor from the college who will support him with his SIP. “My mentor has also been my faculty for marketing research and he always been helpful and supportive”, he says. “No one else could have been a better choice to guide me through my SIP.” In the first few days of his SIP, Shubam has woken up to the reality of the working world: “the first thing that I have learned is that the real corporate world is very different from the world we believe in. It’s the application of concepts that actually matters!”

According to Shubham, SIP can be an important stepping stone for students; for his opportunity, Shubham enthusiastically thanks Jaipuria Institute of Management for providing the platform. During the internship, he hopes to gather a working knowledge of the corporate world, so he can succeed in any opportunity that comes his way.
