Pranay Kapoor from Jaipuria Lucknow, Class 2014-16 will be contributing in designing mobile apps loaded with Internet banking features with his Management skills in the kitty.
Pranay Kapoor has joined Ujjivan Financial Services Ltd. with a package of Rs.7 lacs p.a. Here, he shares his thoughts on his time at Jaipuria Institue of Management, Lucknow, his placement experience and his plans for the future.
I come from the Union Territory of Silvassa and have completed my Mechanical Engineering (B.E. Mechanical) from Sinhgad College of Engineering, Pune (University of Pune). I already had two years of work experience before joining Jaipuria Jaipuria’s PGDM in 2014. The objective behind joining this program was to move from the technical cadre to the management cadre. From these two years, I expected to get the best guidance possible for career and personal growth. Upon reflection, I must say this purpose has been well served here.
My two years have been transformational in many ways. I have become more confident in my abilities to lead any project, assignment, or event. Compared to my batchmates from engineering who did not choose to go for a PGDM, I see significant differences in job profiles. I am not aware of many management people who get to design a mobile app and internet banking website for a bank, thus contributing in setting up a bank.
I have also had a chance to undertake a lot of extracurricular activities during these two years. I presented a research paper on “Identification of Best Entertainment Place for Youth Using Multi Criteria Decision Making Process” during the International Conference on Optimization, Computing and Business Analysis for Sustainable Development held at The Department of Mathematics, Central University of Rajasthan.
My internship experience was also invaluable in building my confidence and abilities. I interned with Bridgestone India Jaipur and my work included assessing brand popularity and comparative analysis of 4 and 2 wheeler tyre market in Jaipur city. For this, I conducted market survey of customers, 2/4 wheeler tyre dealers and performed data analysis using SPSS. I also worked on a project for Lifestyle, Landmark Group, Jaipur wherein my topic was ‘Operational and Marketing practices of a retail store’. I gained experience in maintaining inventory levels, understanding the importance of CRM and experiencing innovative promotional activities like loyalty cards and sales points.
This invaluable experience and my ability to articulate the main highlights from the SIP (summer internship program) helped me a lot during my final interviews. The overall interview experience was very satisfactory. I feel that the ability to justify how my SIP work experience and how my strengths would work for the betterment of the organization was the turning point in my interview.
I have joined Ujjivan as a Management Associate – Channels (Internet Banking and Mobility). I will need to finalize a field list and feature list for the Ujjivan Mobile banking app and Internet Banking, develop process maps and process flows for each service and develop User Acceptance Testing (UAT) cases.
Prachi has joined Deloitte India as a Tax Consultant with a salary package of Rs. 5.35 lacs p.a. She shares her Jaipuria Jaipur experience and how it has helped her reach where she is today.
I come from The Great City of Joy- Kolkata. I have done my BBA-Marketing from Shri Shikshayatan College which is affiliated to Calcutta University.
The BBA is known as a mini MBA. For career progression, I opted for the PGDM, which involves a more enriching experience. The presentations, case studies, projects, and research papers improve understanding of business. Another reason for pursuing MBA was to build a network and to discard my stage fear.
Coming to Jaipuria Jaipur was indeed a big decision for my family and me. I have been in Kolkata with my family all my life. Convincing them about the move was a challenge. However once I made them understand the importance of taking my career to a next level and how Jaipuria would help me with this, they were convinced. I will always be grateful to them for their support and for the faith that they entrusted on me.
At Jaipuria, I have learnt to do more than one thing at a time, and have gained considerable knowledge. Staying away from home, Jaipuria Jaipur has helped me to become independent. This has boosted my self-confidence and has helped me improve my socializing and leadership skills. Also, it has helped to broaden my horizons.
My stage fear has vanished. Continuous and rigorous presentations helped me to overcome this problem and boosted my confidence. Also, doing an MBA from a reputed B-school gave me a great opportunity to network with smart students and achievers. My internship experience was also useful in building my skills. I accomplished my SIP from Emami Limited, Kolkata in their Finance and Accounting function. My project was based on analysing the financial statements and of the company, while comparing its working capital trend with competitors.
Another self-development aspect at Jaipuria Jaipur are the extra-curricular opportunities. During the two years I participated in many activities, including Basics of Communication Skills, Duet Dance, Paper Dance event in “Abhyudaya-National Inter-College Annual Fest and many more.
After all this, I do see a large difference between myself and my BBA batchmates in terms of professional approach towards my work and occupation. The skills that Jaipuria has instilled in me has made me more efficient and productive. Its healthy campus life has added on in grooming myself and has taught me to cope with life, not only academically, but also practically.
My role in Deloitte will be of a Tax Consultant-1. The key responsibility will be filing tax returns for the US clients, acting in compliance with the US tax laws. It will require working in teams, supporting one another. Along with this, there will be continuous training and e-learning sessions.
Good communication skills are important to make an impact, so I would advise the current batch to work on that. Show recruiters your positive side and stay calm while speaking. Be brief and give to the point answers, especially in the technical round. They do not appreciate confusing answers at all. Have clarity in your thoughts. Don’t overdo anything. To prepare yourself for the interview, start preparing your answers now. Write down your answers somewhere, get it reviewed by your faculty mentor and read them once every day. This will build up your confidence and on the final day, you can answer them without any hesitation. Trust me, it helped me a lot!
It has only been a matter of two years that Riku Acharyya, Batch 2012- 14 of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, had started working with ICICI Securities. Riku received four promotions within 24 months and is already the proud winner of the ‘No.1 Relationship Manager PAN India FY 15-16’ award. We sat with him over a small conversation to try understand how his PGDM education contributed to these success.
“I completed my B.Com from Guwahati University and my PGDM from Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow. My campus placement with ICICI Securities happened in the year 2014. I initially joined as a Management Trainee, and due to favorable performance, I have won 4 promotions within this period of time and am presently working as a Branch Manager in Jodhpur,” says a humble Riku when asked about his latest achievements at his work place.
“The award has been awarded to me for the business performance of my unit. This is the 7th award and is extra special because it is the MD/CEO special award for the Numero Uno rank,” adds the alumnus.
He mentions how his time at Jaipuria Lucknow contributed in his career building significantly. “The grooming I received in managerial skills is what has helped me achieve whatever I could till now. The course structure and campus life was designed in such a way that makes every budding manager ready to face the challenges in the corporate world. I have identified my own potential and capabilities through various campus activities, which has undoubtedly helped me develop myself further as a manager.”
Riku has never essentially been the highest CGPA holder in the class. But Riku always ensured to learn the rules of the trade well. In fact, very well! “I believe in maximising my exposure and involvement in whatever I do. At the institute, I was an active member of student council and the different forums and clubs. Being involved in these activities made me versatile and helped me to learn to cope with different situations.” No wonder, Riku today is the street smart, updated, multi-tasking Manager of the 21st Century world.
The Financial sector is a key recruiter in any B school. To make a successful career in this area, one needs to have many elements: passion for the subject, knowledge of economic developments, strong analytical skills and a versatile personality. Most of all, an individual needs to have strong will power and a belief in his own abilities and clearly, during her days at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Riku had mastered all those skills slowly but steadily over the two years of his student life.
When asked to give a message for the juniors of his alma matar, Riku smilingly mentioned- “make the most of campus activities while focusing on academics. The wonderful industry exposure that Jaipuria provides will take care of the preparation and exposure you need. Don’t lose on them.”
Prasad Shejwalkar from the 2011-13 batch shares highlights from his PGDM, shares tips on careers in HRM and talks about how his life has changed after Jaipuria.
From being a student at Jaipuria, Indore not too long ago to being the Assistant Manager – HR at a name like Genpact, it has been a huge personal transformation for Prasad Shejwalkar.
The journey hasn’t been smooth, and there have been a lot of ups and downs. One thing that has stayed with me constantly is the experience to handle people, which I feel is the mantra for my career. The transformation happened per the organization’s need, as well as my own personal interests.
Jaipuria played an important role in molding my career. I learnt important skills there like the optimum use of resources/options available, and working with my peers to establish a common goal. So, I can say Jaipuria had a significant impact on my professional journey so far. These learnings have helped in so many ways: the way you interact with the leadership in your organization, your approach to addressing employee concerns, giving a proper ear so that you give a first time right solution, handling sensitive information like the C&B of employees, how to retain team members, and event planning and execution at an SBU level for the country. I am prepared for all of these responsibilities thanks to my time at Jaipuria.
For me, a career in HRM was a given – I was a catalyst in this area even before I joined Jaipuria. At the same time, I would say that people need to first understand the difference between HR in the service industry and HR in the manufacturing industry. Most of the B-Schools try to impart points that are move involved with the manufacturing industry, but fail to do so for service industry.
Also, to be an effective HR Manager one needs to have a serious interest towards people, an eye for detail, a sensitivity to information shared with them, and a diplomatic and approachable nature. With the growth of technology, the modern HR professional also needs to build expertise in this area.
Another way in which Jaipuria Institute of Management helped me develop my abilities is by its focus on both the curricular and extracurricular, which molds its students into well-groomed personalities of tomorrow. Organising events, meeting corporate leaders, leading teams….all these helped to develop my skill set.
Jaipuria, Indore was also known for doing things differently like digitalization, focusing on entrepreneurship, etc. If I had to suggest something that it needs to do differently then that would be trying to focus more on the service standards rather than the manufacturing standards, since the way things work in the service industry are completely different to that of the manufacturing industry.
My life has become very busy since I left the Institute and I do wish I had more time to keep in touch better with my batchmates, with whom I shared a wonderful two years. It was a wonderful time that I will cherish forever.

Mr. Ramesh G Iyer, sharing his experience with the students said that as you move in to the corporate world understand that you are still learning. As considered by most passing out graduates that the first initial years of your job is the beginning of your career, but these initial years are to be considered as you are still in a Business School but here you are not paying to learn but, getting paid to learn so the takeaway from this thought is that in the initial years “Don’t say no to any opportunity, grab it”. The next most important activity to do during these years is to connect and build network.
He also stated that job is never bad; it is you who is not suited for the job. Responsibility begins when you get a job, we should not be selfish after getting placed. The more you stick to your job the company’s name becomes your last name. One should be consistent towards its job and work.

A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.

Akanksha Srivastava, Jaipuria Noida PGDM Class of 2010-12, shares the story of her Jaipuria journey, her placement experience and some of the highlights of her work life at Deloitte.
I am a Tax Consultant with Deloitte and I work closely with teams and clients in India as well as the U.S. Normally, people would think that such a profile requires one to be analytical and very good with numbers. While this is true, it is only part of the story. It’s not only about numbers but also how to connect with your client and how to maintain a good relationship with the India and U.S. offices. Deloitte provides extensive training for the skills and knowledge we need to be a Tax Consultant. This training and the professional coaching I received during my PGDM years helps me overcome the daily challenges that I face at work.
It feels amazing to work with Deloitte. I had never imagined that I would stay with my campus placement for so long, but I did. This is because it’s the best platform I can get to start off my career. Also, I truly believe that an overall learning experience and industry exposure are a must early on in one’s career. If you are learning and growing during this initial phase, then stick with it as long as you can.
I am indebted to Jaipuria for where I am today. It is because of Jaipuria that I am currently working with such a big company and have such a great profile. The Institute helped a lot, especially during the placement time. We needed some special sessions on accounting and the faculty gave us extra sessions. Besides this, good communication skills are also important, which the Institute worked hard to develop in all of us.
I am in regular touch with faculty at Jaipuria and also the friends that my 2 years there gave me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and the only words of advice for my juniors would be that they should also enjoy this time to the maximum. I wish them all the very best.
“Jaipuria is the place where students learn to connect the abstract concept with the physical world in an environment of supervised exploration” says Dr Vinita Srivastava, Marketing Faculty at Jaipuria Noida.
With 17 years of corporate marketing experience, Dr Vinita Srivastava brings a unique practitioner perspective to Jaipuria, Noida. This background brings many advantages to the Institute and its students, she says “Industry experience blended well with theoretical concepts of management gives the students a clear understanding. This understanding lays a strong foundation for developing industry ready attitude and acumen in students. My industry mentor used to say that I have knack for teaching and training, and I agree with her observation.”
Jaipuria Noida was a logical choice for her. “I am highly impressed with robust academic and administrative systems in place in Jaipuria Noida. It provides a conducive atmosphere for honing one’s skills and upgrade knowledge. Change is the only constant factor in this dynamic business scenario and students studying here are privileged to be in a pro-business academic environment. As a marketing faculty I have contributed in enhancing the contents of marketing papers in general and sales and business development in particular.”
A key advantage that the Jaipuria Institutes offer over other institutes is the thriving environment of collaboration between faculty members. This aspect will continue to keep Jaipuria ahead in quality. “Faculty members at Jaipuria Institute of management believe in team work and according to me this is the biggest strength of the faculty fraternity. Collaborative efforts and experience sharing amongst faculty members cogently helps develop a robust system which has focus only on student development.”
The other advantage is the Institute’s student-centric approach. “Our policies and procedures are all student development driven and are diligently followed by the staff and faculty. The teachers leave no stone unturned in following the best practices for imparting the requisite skills and knowledge. Adequate emphasis is being given to academia-industry interface through guest talks, industry visits, live projects, conclaves, conferences, and student led clubs and committees. Initiatives like IDP (Individual Development Program), Uncampus, Alumni Mentoring, student exchange programs with foreign universities, global internships, and BOP (Business Orientation Project) are other examples of this approach.”
Dr.Srivastava strongly believes that the abstract concept is more important than the physical concept. “I strongly believe in the abstract ideology. Passion, belief, motivation and positive attitude are far more powerful than the physical world and actually drive the physical world. Young minds need to be motivated to achieve the impossible. Teaching is not filling a bucket with existing theories but to lead the young minds on a journey of self-learning. I feel the role of an instructor is to lend the basic concepts in simplest manner and to create excitement in students for the subject. This can be achieved by simplifying concepts and connecting them to the real world.”
She also believes that students should be left to explore and understand rather than instructed “My attempt is to create an environment of supervised exploration. I help my students learn the fundamental concepts with case lets, presentations and videos by choosing the best applicable format for the class and concepts. I intend to make the class interesting and engaging by role plays and in class exercises.”
