Jaipuria Indore Placement Update

Thanks to the UnCampus concept, ‘Placements 2013’ at Jaipuria Institute of Management are a repeat of last year’s spectacular placements

Setting aside all apprehensions of a slowdown in corporate hiring, Jaipuria Institute of Management has not just equaled its record-breaking placements of the previous year, but has surpassed itin many ways. While the average package offered this year was at par with the previous year – about INR 4.7 lakh p.a. – the highest package from the domestic market was a shade above what was offered last year, at INR 8.9 lakh per annum.

“This can clearly be attributed to Jaipuria’s UnCampus philosophy,” says Mr. R. K. Rishiraj (Head –Corporate Relations & Placements, Jaipuria Institute of Management). “Till  2011, all our three locations then – Lucknow, Noida and Jaipur – were carrying out placements independently. Last year, as a part of our UnCampus effort, placements were centralised for all four locations – Indore being the fourth one. Students have benefited immensely from this policy of engaging recruiters at campus level as well as a central level. This is why our placement graph has sky-rocketed in the last two years, with recruiters coming in from sectors like Consultancy/KPO, Manufacturing, FMCG/Consumer Durables, Financial Services, Banking, Retail and Real Estate.

“Nowhere else will you find students appearing for the same interviews, helping each other out. Jaipuria Institute of Management has a truly extraordinary culture”, shares Prachi Sahai (batch of 2013-2015) who is currently placed with Federal Bank as an Assignment Manager.

While over 130 companies visited the three locations last year, this year an astounding 200+ companies have visited Jaipuria locations. This included the fourth location at Indore, where the 1stbatch was successfully placed this year. Some of the prominent Recruiters for the 2011-13 batch have been CROMA Retail (TATA Group Company), Deloitte Consulting, Orient Papers & Industries Ltd., Smart Cube, Cadburys, Berger Paints India Limited, Axis Bank, Havells India Ltd., Blue Star Ltd., KPMG, Asian Paints Ltd., CNBC-TV 18, Wipro, Genpact, ZycusInfotech, Luminous Power Technologies (P) Limited, Capital IQ, Swarovski, Polyplex Corporation Limited, ICICI Securities Ltd., XL Dynamics India, Kokuyo Camlin Ltd., Colgate Palmolive, IIFL, Vishal Retail Ltd., Indiabulls Securities Ltd., Future Generali India, Dun & Bradstreet, RSPL Group, Ernst & Young, Barclays Shared Services, Safexpress, TATAMc-Graw Hill, Gati Ltd., Business Octane Solutions, Standard Chartered Bank, IndusInd Bank, Federal Bank, ITC Ltd., LG Electronics, Nestle, Deutsche Bank, Just Dial Ltd., Kurlon, TTK Prestige, Hindware, Shoppers Stop, KPMG, ICICI Bank, India First Life Insurance, and Progressive Media.

A very interesting aspect of the recruitment trend was:

  • Nearly 40% of the students were placed in the BFSI sector
  • 14% in the Manufacturing sector
  • 10% in the Real Estate sector
  • Recruitment this year also confirmed news of a definite slowdown in the IT/ ITES industry (5%)

“Jaipuria Noida provides a great platform for employment opportunities. I believe that no other organization would have given me the kind of exposure that I have got here within a short span of a year”, shares Shambhawi Singh from Jaipuria Noida (Batch of 2011-2013).

“Placements are not an issue at Jaipuria. Corporates are always on the lookout for talents. Our endeavor year-on-year is to improve the quality of placements and add new corporates across all sectors to fulfill the aspiration of the students”, says Mr. Shreevats Jaipuria, Vice Chairman of Jaipuria Institute of Management.

Jaipuria’s unwavering commitment is to offer to industry management graduates with the right knowledge, skills and attitude through a balance of academic rigor and practical exposure. Reputed industrialists who understand the requirements of the corporate world and who have been in the education sector since 1945 head Jaipuria Institute of Management. All-out efforts are made to groom the students to develop managerial skills, management knowledge, industry exposure and personal attributes.

Jaipuria Institute of Management,Indore welcomes its third batch: students selected from over 25 Indian cities

July 2, 2013, Indore: A renowned name in management education, Jaipuria Institute of Management, is welcoming its third batch of students for the PGDM 2013-15 batch. Jaipuria Indore held a grand induction and orientation programme to mark the start of a brand new academic year. The institute has a legacy of over 68 years in education and over 17 years in management education, with campuses spread across Lucknow, Noida, Jaipur and the youngest of the four campuses, Indore. Established in 2010, Jaipuria Indore has waved the banner of success in the first academic year itself by achieving 100% placement for its summer internships. It is noteworthy that after the IIMs, it is also perhaps the only institute in Central India to be fully residential. Along with providing education of the highest order, the institute has a unique industry mentorship live consulting project, CHISEL, which empowers students to be decision-makers and gives them a chance at direct interactions with corporate big-wigs while they are still students. The main objective of the fortnight-long programme, being held from July 1st to July 13th, 2013, was to understand students’ expectations, their roles with regard to the didactic learning process, familiarise them with other aspects of everyday needs – both academic and administrative – and introduce them to various processes and systems at Jaipuria Indore.
Briefing the gathering at the inaugural session, the Director of the Institute, Dr. J. P. Upadhyay, said that the purpose of the induction programme was to introduce students to the various resources available at the institute. He also said that the PDM mainly focuses on two verticals – for one, it gives overall insight into the business and for another it builds leadership qualities in individuals, which in turn help in the management of people and resources. He suggested that students should work with an attitude of learning and transformation, for which he recommended that the individual should discover his/her passion early in life. Lastly, he said that the biggest strength of MBAs was that they were more confident than other degree holders, but he also added that confidence without competency is like a life without any aim.
Dr. J. K. Mishra, Asst. Dean Academics, gave an overview of the 13-day induction programme, where students would be exposed to various facets of life, from management to spirituality. He emphasised that students were important stake holders in the teaching-learning process and said that they were the torch bearers for their future along with the institute.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Dinesh Goel, a renowned entrepreneur. Mr. Goel stressed upon the importance of having values in life. He said that the students were the generation of the future and as such, they would need to take these two years of the PGDM programme very seriously. He also said that they would need to know their strengths and weaknesses, and work at building on their strengths. His message to the students was, “Build on your capabilities and draft a mission statement for yourself.”
The Guest of Honour for the occasion was Maj. Gen. V. S. Karnik (Retd.), who emphasised that students should be goal-oriented and be determined to excel in whichever field they choose. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Nitin Merh, Asst. Dean Student Affairs.
The Induction Ceremony was an emotional moment for the family members of the students, as their loved ones were beginning their journey into the challenging yet gratifying area of Management.

Alumni Speak Jaipuria Lucknow

“Tough times don’t last… tough men do,” says Anurag Misra, Sr. AVP, SBI Life Insurance, alumni of the 1999 batch of Jaipuria Lucknow

Anurag Misra is the living example of the oft-quoted lines, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going”. In the aftermath of the fall of Lehman Brothers, when professionals across the globe where happy with whatever rank and profile they were handed, not only did Anurag Misra thrive in SBI Life Insurance, but in a span of just five years, earned three back-to-back promotions. An alumnus of the 1999 batch of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, Anurag Misra today sits pretty high up in the corporate hierarchy as Sr. AVP, heading Back Office Operations – Group Business.

“There are two things that I learnt at Jaipuria Lucknow that have always held me in good stead – how to be an effective team player, and how to make strategies to achieve time-bound objectives. Basically, I am extremely hardworking, sincere and adaptable. So when in the initial part of my career I faced numerous challenges, I remained positive and did full justice to the assignments given to me. I believe that is how the wheels turned in my favour.”

Anurag, incidentally, is the man behind the now-famous ‘Ladli’ scheme launched by Ms. Sheela Dikshit, the Chief Minister of Delhi, way back on the 7th of March 2008. The groundbreaking ‘Ladli’ scheme ensures special grants for girl child protection, marriage of orphan girls and daughters of poor widows, and pension for widows. Right from bagging the ‘Ladli’ scheme for SBI Life Insurance, to designing the entire scheme and logistics for the Child and Women Welfare Dept. of the Government of Delhi, Anurag did it all. Within a couple of months of executing this mammoth task, Anurag was promoted from Sr. Manager to Area Sales Manager on 12th May 2008… and he has never looked back. Anurag has been instrumental in generating business to the tune of a whopping 300 Crore in his five-and-a-half years with SBI Life Insurance. All the while, he has been a wonderful alumnus of Jaipuria Lucknow.

“I rarely miss an alumni meet, and enjoy staying in touch with my colleagues, as well as other alumni. I do miss the wonderful two years spent with friends at Jaipuria Lucknow, and the amazing faculty members that we were fortunate enough to have.”

“Five years down the line, I see myself spearheading the company and taking it to heights never touched before,” says Anurag Misra, with the confidence of a man who has seen the highs and lows of life… and has come out the better for it.

Jaipuria Lucknow STUDENT Speaks

Jaipuria doesn’t teach you how you can be better than others; it makes you better than yourself, Tuhin Sharma, 2012-14 Batch

Tuhin Sharma loves to initiate change and make things happen. It is perhaps for this reason that he was made the College Captain during his school days in Tagore Public School, Allahabad. Born and brought up in Allahabad, Tuhin did his B.Com from University of Allahabad before entering Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow.

“I always see myself a little more than useless because I believe the more you know, the more you realise how much you don’t know. So there is always scope to learn. This makes me accept change faster and better.”

Tuhin is a multi-faceted and talented student.  He is hard to beat in debates and discussions, simply because he is widely read, and displays excellent command over the English language. His abilities make him a unanimous choice as anchor for various events in Jaipuria Lucknow. Having displayed leadership qualities very early in life, Tuhin is a natural manager. His relaxation formula involves reading books on marketing and branding, autobiographies and works of writers like Jodi Picoult, Paulo Coelho and Harper Lee. He enjoys long rides on his bike, is more than a decent singer and likes to play basketball whenever he can. A fierce competitor, Tuhin has either participated in or organised competitions like the business quiz, business plan, and marketing & finance games on the Jaipuria, Lucknow campus.

“I am not what happened to me,” he says philosophically. “I am what I choose to become. I choose to learn from my mind and lead with heart. The curriculum and pedagogy at Jaipuria, Lucknow makes learning a special experience. The faculty members here don’t restrict themselves simply to imparting domain knowledge, but also give us insight into industry; that’s what makes learning easy.  Jaipuria fulfills its motto of ‘Think, Learn, Imbibe, Innovate, Choose, and Lead’. Jaipuria doesn’t teach you how you can be better than others; it makes you better than yourself. The courses offered here are industry-oriented and focus on the holistic development of the students. The exceptional placements of Jaipuria Lucknow clearly indicate what Jaipuria does and how well it does it.”

Tuhin is an ideal member of the Alumni Committee of Jaipuria Lucknow, where he interacts with the alumni, many of whom are at prime posts in the corporate world. He is also a member of the Media Relations Club of the Lucknow campus, CTRL+N (Marketing Club) and the Finance Club. Tuhin was also on the organizing committee for Ojas (Annual Fest) and IIC (Annual Conference).

“I have noticed big positive changes in myself during this one year at Jaipuria Lucknow. I think the most memorable moments were when I won prizes in various events at Talaash, Ojas and other pan-India competitions that reached beyond Jaipuria Lucknow. I also loved it when I was announced Mr. Fresher from my batch.”

Tuhin reserves special praise for the faculty of Jaipuria Lucknow.
“People say that if you never expect anything, you will never be disappointed. I expected a lot from the Jaipuria Lucknow faculty… and I got more than I had expected. The Jaipuria Lucknow faculties are in great demand beyond the walls of Jaipuria – in MDPs, in seminars, at the IIMs, etc. Yet within the campus, they are simply our mentors. Their experience of the corporate world is not biased or restricted. It is almost as if they are referees, judging the corporate world. That is the kind of impactful neutral view they bring to our classrooms.”

Tuhin believes that Jaipuria Lucknow has given him just the right platform to learn, perform and grow. He is looking forward to making his alma mater proud in the near future.
