Alumni Speak Jaipuria Jaipur

“I am working very hard to be the kind of teacher who inspires her students. I want to be like my teachers in Jaipuria Institute of Management.”

As a teacher of Commerce in Kanoria PG College, Jaipur, Ruchika Jhuraney teaches Business Administration. She is also pursuing a PhD in Marketing from the University of Rajasthan (Business Administration department) at the same time.

“I am a product of the 2007-09 batch of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur. It was really wonderful to see Jaipuria Institute of Management deliver on its promise of a good placement, when I was placed on-campus with Genpact as Management Trainee. Mind you, we passed out just when the recession hit the markets. I experienced corporate life in Genpact, but soon decided to switch to teaching as I wanted to share the knowledge I had gained with other students.”

With her impressive credentials, Ruchika had no trouble in being taken on as faculty at Kanoria College. She also cleared the University of Rajasthan entrance exam for her PhD(MPAT).

“I have lots of wonderful memories of Jaipuria Institute of Management, but what impressed me most – and was one of the reasons for my shifting to academia – was the guidance of teachers who knew their subjects so well and were always willing to solve their students’ doubts. The facility of studying in a well-stocked library at one’s own convenience is also something I remember fondly.Completing projects and preparing presentations in groups, and coordinating various competitions, fests, and Abhyudaya – Jaipuria’s annual management fest – helped us develop team spirit.Even today, I’m in constant touch with the faculty members and my batch-mates from Jaipuria Jaipur on Whatsapp, as well as other social networking sites. Itry not to miss the alumni meets and management fests.”

As a teacher by choice, Ruchika believes that good teachers are the need of the hour.

“I am working very hard to be that kind of a teacher – a teacher who inspires. I want to help my students develop real interest in their subjects and not to just study for the sake of it. I want to be like my teachers in Jaipuria Institute of Management.Studying at Jaipuria Jaipur helped me develop a long-lasting interest inand aptitude for the process of education. Making frequent presentations helped us to get rid of stage fright and develop more confidence and faith in ourselves. Irrespective of whether it’s the corporate world or academia, the ability to address and engage a lot of people at the same time is worth its weight in gold.”

Ruchika believes that Jaipuria Institute prepared her along the lines of the Bhagvada Geeta–‘Work hard, compete harder, and leave the result to the powers that be’.

“I am having a great time as a teacher. My students are the nearly the same age as I am, so it’s easier to understand and teach them; it’s easier to relate to their problems and subject-related anxieties since I’ve beenin that situation very recently. I am positive that I will be able to carve out a niche for myself in academia – as a teacher as well as researcher – and make my mentors in Jaipuria Institute of Management proud.”

Ruchika has been keenly observing the phenomenal growth in the numbers of national and international seminars and conferences for its students, as well as FDPs for faculty across the Rajasthan region. She is extremely proud of the fact that Jaipuria Jaipur is playing the role of the leading management college in Rajasthan with great aplomb.

Jaipuria Noida Placement Update

“Every time I sought suggestions from the Faculty, their answers made me feel that they were always there for me.”

For Jahnvi Singh, the placement months at Jaipuria had been very challenging, but with the support of her faculty and peers at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida she had emerged stronger. Jahnvi recalls how her mentors at Jaipuria Institute of Management where always there for her right through the interviewing process for Gati KWE.

“GatiKintetsu Express Private Limited, better known as Gati KWE, is one of the dream companies – along with the likes of Tata-McGraw Hill, Bose Corporation and Apeejay Group – that recruited this year at Jaipuria Institute of Management. Gati KWE had an elaborate 3-stage recruitment process. The first stage was a GD on the topic ‘India is not safe for women’. It was a good discussion. Although I did not initiate the discussion, I spoke about what mattered the most. In a GD,you need not set the ball rolling every time, but you do need to make your presence matter.”

The second stage of the Gati KWE interviewing process was a case study presentation. Jahnvi had been given a four-page case on inventory management to read and analyse for 15 minutes, after which she was to present the case study. At the end of her presentation, she had been asked just two quick questions by the recruiters and then dismissed with a short “ok thanks”.
“I was not sure whether this was good or bad. When the results came out, I had cleared the round. Apparently I was not quizzed because the recruiters realised that I knew what I was speaking about.”

The final round was a ‘stress interview’ conducted by the senior management at the Gati KWE office.

“I had barely stepped into the room when the members of the interviewing panel startedbombarding me with questions and observations like “Being a girl, why do you want to be in sales?”, “We don’t think you willbe able to do the job!”, “You like working in isolation”, “You are not a team player”. Months of Personality Development classes at Jaipuria Institute of Management had prepared me for such a scenario. Isimply kept mum, till the questions subsided. I then told them that since it would not be possible for me to answer all the questions at the same time, the questions could be asked again one by one. The panelists burst out laughing.By the end of the interview, the panelists were offering me tea and biscuits!”

Out of the sea of applicants, aspirants and dream-seekers from numerous management colleges across the country, Jahnvi Singh was the chosen to join the dream company for many, GatiKintetsu Express Private Limited.

“My peers at Jaipuria Institute of Management have been my greatest support. They were the pillars when I felt I would not be able to stand by myself. I owe them a lot for their criticism; I am better off for it.We’ve been given the opportunity to join the best companies at Jaipuria Institute of Management. Surprisingly, we saw no indications of the economic slowdown everyone is speaking of.”

Jahnvi Singh will shortly be joining GatiKintetsu Express Pvt. Ltd. in the capacity of Management Trainee. After a year of training, she will take on the responsibilities of Assistant Manager – Sales. As of now, Jahnvi is busy enjoying her last few days at Jaipuria Institute of Management.

National Seminar on Managing Big Data – Challenges and Opportunities

April 06, 2013: Every day, the world creates 2.5 quintillion bytes of data — so much that 90% of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years alone. This data comes from everywhere: sensors used to gather climate information, posts to social media sites, digital pictures and videos, purchase transaction records, and cell phone GPS signals to name a few. This data is ‘Big data’.
Realising the complexity and importance of the data. Jaipuria Indore organised a National Seminar on Managing Big Data – Challenges and Opportunities on April 6. The seminar was well attended by some of the eminent speakers from industry and academic. Some of it them Mr.Vishal Dakoliya, National Head Business Development, Web dunia.com (India) Pvt, Abhishek Sanghvi, MD, ILead,  Prof. K.R. Pardasani, M.A.N.I.T.
Addressing the industry experts and students, director of the institute, Dr. J.P. Upadhyay marked this April as ‘BIG April’ since all of us are growing together with the sharing of knowledge and information. He also shared thatover a period of time, the capacity of Information technology has increased to an enormous level, which is indeed a result of growing IT professionals and IT architecture. He said data has grown vast; we can’t come to an accurate conclusion until and unless we have not gathered, analysed and interpreted the complete data. Sharing his experience, he said that today’s business organizations are crowded by huge amount of data, and to manage that data, is of critical importance, which is where IT plays a major role. He stated objective of the event is to create awareness and educate about the anatomy and physiology of BIG data available and its relevance to business organization. He quoted “The big data needs a big judgement”. To have an appropriate analysis and accurate judgement is a challenge he foresees while dealing with Big Data. He also questioned about the sustainability of present IT scenario as we are losing human intuitive ability, since all decisions are based entirely on data.
Unfolding the big data, Prof.Nitin Merh and Prof.Jagdish Bhagwat said that the data has grown to a capacity of petabytes and zettabytes. Adding on they said big data is not just confined to IT discipline; it has got its implication in every domain across the globe. Limitation of big data analysis and interpretation is that it is based on the principle that future is that extrapolation of the past, which is myopic.
To demystify whether the Big Data is really that big a deal, or, as many people say, correctly, that it is nothing new except for the focus now being broadened to almost all sectors, there were guest speakers who shared their expertise and knowledge on “managing big data- challenges and opportunities”
Mr.Abhishek Sanghvi, Managing Director, ILEADS, focussed on data with respect to qualitative and quantitative dimensions. He said in any business organization, Big Data gives insights to take better decision and thus gain higher profits. He emphasized on characteristics of data viz. volume, variety, velocity, value. He referred Big data as the next frontier for the present and the future scenario. He also shared some cases relating the Business models and role of Big data in it. To list, some of them were “Retail”: when and what to order where, “Airlines”: hoe to price tickets, “web analytics” etc.
Vishal Dakoliya, National Head Business Development, Webdunia.com (India) Pvt. Ltd. shared his experience with the students. Stating observation as the key factor for the management of big data, he took examples from basics of home management, television and automobile industry. He said in the world of information, the challenge lies in how can we simplify, identify the purpose for the data collection and make the best use of Big Data. He took us to ancient times where languages, astrology originated, where everything is based on data. He added Information selling is a yet to come in India as an upcoming business model. Data has increased and will continue to increase, Availability and storage is no more a challenge. Purpose for the data and information, is what he referred as the key factor. He said it’s not just the data management but beyond it lies huge value, which is to be extracted, analysed and put to use. Giving a message to students, he said to make a career in data analytics, one has to become a data scientist.
Prof.K.R. Pardasani, M.A.N.I.T. focused on “Big data challenges for data mining”. Throwing the light upon the technical aspects he said data is the value given to an attribute of an entity. He discussed it at three levels viz. data, information, knowledge and its linkage to the different levels of organization. Referring the term BIG of BIG DATA as a fuzzy term, took an example of human anatomy cell genome to show the extent of big data. He denoted Data mining as the knowledge discovery from a large database. He also talked about data warehousing as a subject oriented, integrated, time variant, non-volatile collection of data used in support of management decision making process. He also discussed why organization requires data warehouse and its various models. He said human intervention is always required in mining of data to find out the data of relevance from the available one. Adding to the point, he said that sometimes Information grew bigger than the data and this is where human intelligence is applicable to bring it down to an appropriate size for analysis. He also talked about vague set theory, fuzzy set and soft set theory. As a statistician, he believes bigger is better. Bigger the data, better is the analysis and interpretation.
The seminar covered paper presentation competition by students on Big Data concerned to different domain. The joint winners for the competition were Rishu Gupta, Saurabh Chaudhary and Pratibha Singh, Kamlesh Chand Sainifrom M.A.N.I.T., Bhopal and the joint runners up were Aman Kumar , Raja Solanki and Namrata Gwal, Pawan Singh from Jaipuria Indore.
The seminar concentrated on practical applications and utilization of big data. It aimed to cut through the marketing hype and help participants understand the competitive advantage. Participants also got a chance to interact with industry experts and academicians who are currently working ‘Live’ on Big Data analytics.

Jaipuria Jaipur STUDENT Speaks

“I am passionate about automobiles. After classes at Jaipuria Jaipur, most of my time goes in browsing through automobile magazines, blogs and forums.”

Panav Chadha is about to complete his first year in Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur. Born and brought up in Jaipur, Panav did his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from JNIT, before pursuing a PG in Business Management from Jaipuria Jaipur. Panav comes across as a sincere, sober, and studious young man. But initiate any topic regarding automobiles, and his eyes light up! He would love to join an automobile company some day.

“I am completely passionate about automobiles. If I see a new automobile in the market, I have to test-drive it. Beyond the classroom hours of Jaipuria, you will find me going through automobile magazines, blogs or forums. As soon as there is a new launch of any kind of automobile, I have to do a detailed analysis and comparison with its rivals in the segment.”

Over the last nine months, Panav has played an active role in many extra-curricular activities, such as Rocket Singh (Marketing event), an inter-college sports meet at the national level and, of course, the famed annual fest of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Abhyudaya. All this exposure has helped him grow in confidence and given him immense clarity about his future.
“On passing out of Jaipuria Jaipur, I would like to take on a role equivalent to a deputy manager in a growing company. I’m not really concerned about the size or brand of the company that I join. If it’s a small company, I will grow faster in terms of knowledge and skills, and build relationships more quickly.”

Panav’s selection of B-school was based on solid facts. He did not want to change his location, and yet wanted to go to the best management institute.

“Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur is the best B-school in Rajasthan. It conforms to global standards of business schools in terms of infrastructure and faculty. Most of the faculty members come from an industry background. They are able to explain even complex topics very simply. So with an excellent management college like Jaipuria Institute of Management in my hometown, there was no need to go elsewhere.”

Panav believes that rapid economic and social changes are here to stay and managers will have to adapt to this new reality, while maintaining efficiency. Because of his non-stop study of automobiles through various foreign magazines, websites and blogs, he has realised how knowledge of different work cultures across the globe are used to build business strategies.

“I am looking to do a specialisation in Marketing during my 2nd Year at Jaipuria Institute of Management, along with acquiring knowledge of the BFSI sector (Banking, Financial Services and Insurance). I especially enjoy Dr. Swati Soni’s classes. Her way of teaching is very engaging, with a lot of practical and real life examples. It helps us understand concepts quickly and easily.”

Five years down the line, Panav sees himself as a Marketing Manager or Regional Head in a top automobile company. He is confident that Jaipuria Institute of Management will help him achieve this target.
