CSR Initiative led by students of Jaipuria, Indore seeks to improve the City’s traffic situation

January 24-25, 2014: Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore, organized and implemented a two-day CSR initiative with the objective of improving the traffic situation in Indore. The initiative, named ‘Better Traffic in Indore’, was conducted in association with the Indore Traffic Police. Prior to the event, students were given traffic related training by the Indore traffic police at the Traffic Thana in Indore.

During the event, students, wearing Jaipuria t-shirts, in teams of four to five were stationed at ten major traffic junctions of the city.

Banners carrying the theme of the event were displayed near the students’ positions. At their respective traffic junctions, students handed chocolates and Jaipuria pens as a token of appreciation to those who followed safe traffic norms, such as wearing seat belts or helmets. Traffic violators, on the other hand, were provided with pamphlets that contained statistics of road accidents in Indore, as well as appeals to follow traffic rules. Some students went a step ahead and asked many who were not wearing seat belts to wear seat belts; the motorists, surprisingly, agreed to do so! At other junctions, students were seen taking an active role in managing traffic, which included making drivers stop at red light signals. The Indore traffic police constables at the traffic junctions served tea to the students in appreciation of their service. The ASP, Indore Traffic Police, and Ms Anjana Tiwari, who personally witnessed the actions of the students, appreciated their efforts. Growing up in a simple, middle class family in Amritsar, Sanjay Mehta dreamed big and wished to conquer the world of finance. That is the reason why he made his way to Jaipuria, Jaipur, a place with a brilliant reputation, as well as a fee structure that, he says, suited his father’s modest pockets. The institute is where his dreams were nurtured and are now on the way of being fulfilled as he’s bagged a job with Ujjivan Financial Services Pvt Ltd.

When asked about his job profile, Sanjay says candidly, “It is a kind of profile where you need to understand customers and be very clear about the management fundamentals. Thankfully, my two years at the institute have prepared me for this challenge.”

What Sanjay is most excited about is the fact that he’s found placement with a company that is in keeping with his goals for the future. That is one of the benefits of the placement program at Jaipuria Institute of Management. It attracts a wide array of employers for its students, from big name companies to start-ups and smaller brands. Students can make their choices based on what they are looking for at this initial stage of their career; they can make decisions based on brand name, job profile, opportunities to grow, or a vibrant working environment.

This kind of confidence sits well with a man who believes that “Attitude is more important than IQ.” However, Sanjay reveals something that might surprise some people. That changed when he joined Jaipuria, Jaipur, which has been the catalyst in his overall growth: “I learned to stay focused on my goals and being consistent in all that I did,” he says, gratefully. “The institute also moulded my personality to a great extent. The learning here helps you become a better individual, team member and citizen.”

Rashi Sharma from Jaipuria, Jaipur gets placement with a local business with a great cause

Having grown up in the Pink City herself, Jaipuria, Japiur wasn’t an unfamiliar name for Rashi Sharma. A few of her friends were already studying there, and she was familiar with the various activities and fests that the institute sponsors for its students. Hence, when she decided to move from her science background to the dynamic world of management, she didn’t have to think twice before joining the institute. And as things have turned out, it’s the best decision she could have taken, especially with the news that she landed a job with Jaipur Rugs- an NGO with the vision of creating a society where equality, justice and peace prevail through socio-economic development opportunities for all.

Jaipur Rugs is a growing local company, and one that gives Rashi a fantastic opportunity to further develop her career. She believes that the strong placement programs at Jaipuria Institute of Management, where students have various options in front of them, is a tremendous benefit. Thanks to that, she will be working in a local company in a position that suits her personality to a T: “I am quite excited about my role as a project co-ordinator with Jaipur Rugs Foundation,” a visibly thrilled Rashi says.

If you ask her about the key responsibilities her job will involve, Rashi rattles off an expansive list: “Part of my job would be identifying, developing, and maintaining strong relationships with funding organizations. I would be assisting with preparing and reviewing grant proposals. I will also be conducting presentations on research work and findings at conferences, which I am quite excited about too.”

Rashi’s time at Jaipuria Institute prepared her well for this position, notably in her ability to be an effective public speaker and presenter. Acknowledging this, Rashi says, “All the presentations I had to make might have seemed like hard work at that point in time, but they were important to build my confidence. We were also made to take part in several activities that worked on our personalities and made us who we are today.”

Rashi will be the first to admit that it wasn’t easy going in the initial stages, especially since she came from a Science background and struggled with understanding management concepts. However, over time and with her dedication, she managed to bridge the gap between science and management. But she’s also mindful of the fact that she would not have managed it without the help of her faculty members who were accessible to her whenever she needed them. In addition, Rashi feels that working with students from different backgrounds also helped her immensely.

As Rashi starts off on her professional journey, does she have any advice for her juniors? “When you are on the job you don’t have time to learn; the time to learn is now,” she says. “All I will ask the juniors is to make the most of the brilliant learning opportunities they have at the institute and go after their dreams.”

Ankit Awate does Jaipuria, Indore proud by bagging a prestigious placement with Genpact. Gets a chance to be associated with GE brand and lead a team of CAs and MBAs.

Ankit Awate, a small town boy from Dewas belonged to a business family and could have had things laid out on the platter for him. But his dreams would not let him sleep. He wanted to be a manager working in the Finance sector and wanted to do it on his own steam. That’s why he opted for his PGDM with Jaipuria, Indore and over time it has become his second home, according to him. And now Ankit can see dreams gradually turning into reality. After all, he has bagged his placement with Genpact for GE Capital Americas.

It’s a big achievement for Ankit who will be working as a Management Trainee (Team Leader) in regulatory reporting process for the company. Importantly, he will be leading a team of CAs and MBAs right at such an early stage of his career. It must be a big high for him but he stays practical in his approach as he says, “Genpact gives me a brand name of GE; top 30 in Forbes list with a pretty reasonable package and hardcore financial profile. I am focused on my choice of work style and quality standard, which I can bring to Genpact.”

Ankit was well aware of what was at stake when he started with the selection process for the company. And he never lost sight of his goal, which is probably why he got through the gruelling three step process with ease. It all started with a Group Discussion followed by a detailed technical round of interview. It was here that his knowledge of management concepts that he learned at the institute were tested to the hilt. He also had to go through HR interview, which was the toughest, according to him.

Besides his knowledge of accounts and finance, his drive to succeed, communication skills and confidence were gauged during the selection process. And Ankit believes that these bases were well covered during his stint with Jaipuria, Indore. “The institute helped me become a fine manager and enabled me to think differently, which has given me the edge. It helped me understand my true potential and gave me opportunities to harness my talent,” mentions Ankit gratefully.

The institute also does its best to ensure that its students are industry ready by the time they step out into the real corporate world. Through several initiatives that are held throughout the duration of the program, the institute strives to offer valuable industry exposure to its students. These initiatives of course gave major boost to the learning process and his overall confidence, according to Ankit. But he also mentions the efforts made by the Placement team that had him in the best possible position to go for his job.

Coming from a business family might have its advantages for many, but Ankit believes that it can work against you in job interviews. And that remains his advice for fellow students looking to bag plum placements in the future. “If you are mentioning to your recruiters the fact that you come from a business class background, then you should know that you are in for some race right from that point of time. Be ready to face it,” he warns.

Now that he has bagged this prestigious placement, Ankit has big plans for the future. “At work I will be myself. It will give me the confidence to keep going further in my career. My next destination is General Electric headquarters in America,” he reveals. “In five years time I would like to be leading many more people and being at the top of hierarchy in an organization,” he ends on a confident note.

Punarsangam 2014 – A meet of 300 alumni of four campuses coming together from various part of the country

Jaipuria Institute of Management hosted its 3rd All Campus Alumni meet in Jacaranda Hall, Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi on 11th January, 2014. Keeping in sync with the trend, the 2014 instalment of the annual alumni meet turned out to be a strong gathering of more than 300 alumni coming together to celebrate their school from different parts of country. In fact, alumni right from the first batch to the most recent one attended the event.

Jaipuria Institute of Management has always considered its alumni as its sterling ambassadors. They are the windows to Jaipuria’s world. The institute does everything possible to ensure that its students are prepared for the challenges in their professional lives and these alumni stand written testimonies to the facts.

Little wonder then that when their B school was hosting an event of this magnitude, alumni from different distant places came calling on what they consider their second home. And the event itself turned out to be a spectacular one, much to everyone’s delight. It was a platform for these past students to share their professional experiences, inspire the juniors and reminiscence about their days at the institute. And the evening had the perfect ambience for all of that.

It all began with the ceremonial lighting of lamp by chief guest Mr. Dev Amritesh, President and COO of Dunkin’ Donuts division at Jubilant FoodWorks. His brief speech was followed by an elaborate video showcasing the achievements of Jaipuria in the recent past. The audience was then treated to a classical dance performance on Ganesh Vandana by Paridhi Bathwal. Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Director General Jaipuria Institute of Management then graced the audience and gave a brief report on Jaipuria’s progress and activities over the last year. It was a fantastic start to the evening and had the gathering completely mesmerized. “I was looking forward to coming here and seeing some recognizable faces. Everything was just perfect and kudos to the organizers for putting on a great show. I had not expected Punarsangam to be such a huge event.” mentioned Satish Jain, a recent graduate working with Deloitte.

Since some of the brightest minds that have come out of the institute were present at the gathering, it seemed only natural that they would engage in a panel discussion on “Raising the bar: Jaipuria making students industry-ready”. Jaipuria has always valued the feedback and opinion of its own alumni. Important points were made during the discussion by panellists that included names like Mr. Vineet Arora, Marketing Manager at HCL Infosystems Ltd. and Mr. Swapnil Tiwari, Founder, Naked Colours, to name a few. The discussion had a fabulous response from the alumni audience who were more than happy to share their experienced inputs.

It was then time for the ambassadors of the institute to talk about their professional experiences and their current lives. Listening to some of the stupendous success stories must have been hugely inspiring for others, especially those who had last the institute only a couple of years ago. Saheli Bakshi, from Class of 2010 said- “It is absolutely amazing to see some of our seniors doing so well for themselves in their careers. It’s motivated me to do better and reach further heights of success.”

The proceedings for the evening were drawn to a close with words of gratitude from Dr. Pankaj Gupta. He thanked the alumni for taking time out of their busy schedules and gathering for the evening. It was obvious that he was filled with pride looking at the achievements of his past students, a sentiment shared by other faculty members as well.

The evening came to an end with dinner and cocktails, which served as an opportunity for the alumni to network with each other and take a trip down the memory lane. As they laughed talking about fun experiences on the campus, they got nostalgic about their student years. The institute had, as always, drawn a gamut of emotions out of them but no one was complaining on this chilly night that was suddenly filled with warmth.
