Jaipuria Noida Placement Update

Isha Misra tells us about the 9 rounds of placement process that helped her get her dream job with Hyundai Motors.

I am currently working with Hyundai MOBIS (Hyundai Motors Group) as a Management Trainee (Marketing) – Parts Division. My job description basically consists of handling all the communications and preparing them from time to time. This includes preparing all Report Approvals, Internal Communications, Circulars, the Quarterly Newsletter, etc. I also  handle the installation and follow-up for display stands, display kit dispatches, the leaflet dispatch every quarter, design and photo shoots related to those leaflets, conducting surveys every quarter on challenging topics and the vendor selection for the designing of the newsletter & leaflets. Finally,  data extraction from our AMOS and DPOS software also falls to me.. Even though it sounds like a lot, this is just a brief outline of my job profile.
The placement process for this company was obviously quite rigorous and consisted of 9 rounds. The first round was a technical interview and questions were asked from the spheres of marketing, strategic marketing, the automobile industry and about the recently held auto expo. The second round was another technical round conducted by another marketing head of the company. The third was an HR round in which questions were asked in order to judge my ability to fit into the company’s culture. Then there were a string of technical rounds with other department heads and a final HR confirmation round through a  video conference with the GM (HR) of the Chennai office.
With so many rounds and so much pressure, no wonder that I needed support and guidance. In that, the faculty at Jaipuria Noida  came through for me and were very supportive throughout the placement month. They gave us interview questions and guided us by arranging crucial mock placement sessions whenever a company visit was due.
The 2 years in Jaipuria Noida have been a joy ride with all the backing that I’ve got from the  faculty and placement coordinators. I have learnt and grown a lot, both professionally and personally, in these years. The whole experience was intense and will  certainly helped me a lot in my professional life.

FACULTY Speaks Jaipuria Indore

“Training women entrepreneurs for Goldman Sachs was a life-changing experience.”

Professor Priti Bakhshi, one of the best-known experts in entrepreneurship training in the country and a core faculty member at Jaipuria Indore, has just concluded a prestigious consulting assignment with Goldman Sachs. Professor Bakhshi was mentoring women entrepreneurs during this assignment, and feels blessed to have made a positive impact on the lives of the women she was mentoring.
“There were six women entrepreneurs in and around Indore under this programme. The issues with each one were different – financial, operations-related issues and vocational issues, and these were not limited only to managerial problems,” says the professor as she talks about the experience. Professor Priti Bakhshi ensured that these women received over-all grooming in order to face the challenges of their chosen careers.
Professor Bakhshi, who has recently submitted her PhD thesis while carrying out her duties at Jaipuria Indore, has over 14 years of academic, consultancy and industrial experience. She is a certified teacher of  “Entrepreneurship” and “Incubation Set Up” by the National Entrepreneurship Network, and is also trained to teach Business Simulation. She has worked with other B- Schools and organizations such as Grasim Industries and the IPS Academy, and her consultancy services have been of benefit to Goyal Consultants and Sayaji Hotels amongst others. IIT Bombay’s E-cell appointed her as a Mentor for ‘Eureka 50 Entrepreneurs’ and for ‘IndiaPreneurs’ by Indira Business School as well. She has numerous internationally acclaimed papers and publications to her name on the areas of micro-finance, women entrepreneur finance, clean development mechanism and Carbon Credit.
Professor Bakhshi, simply by virtue of bringing in these new avenues of management, is of immense value to Jaipuria Indore. Sometimes, the concepts she teaches are so novel that she has to practice immense patience in getting them across to her students at Jaipuria Indore. What helps is that she has an extremely calm way of communicating. Speaking of her methodology, she says, “I believe in creating an atmosphere that fosters the learning experience. Over any other quality, I prefer an environment where there is a two-way communication.”
Beyond classes in Jaipuria Indore, Professor Priti Bakhshi is actively involved with social work, opting to help the poor without making a public show of it. She believes that helping others without third party intervention always brings a smile to her face.
To her, the time spent at Jaipuria Indore has been an excellent learning experience, especially the digital campus. She feels that it keeps everybody on their toes, and with regular updating of the technology, the learning at Jaipuria Indore never stops, irrespective of whether you are faculty or a student.

Placement Update

Experiencing the Placement Process at Jaipuria Institute of Management.

I took admission in the Jaipuria Institute of Management after a rigorous research of good MBA colleges in the Delhi/NCR region. This college was rated among the best in the region. When I got a call for the interview, I responded immediately and was selected for the PGDM (General) course. After the summer internship we were given a choice of streams to opt out for, such as finance, marketing, IT, operations and HR. It was a dual specialisation course so, after consulting with the faculty, I opted for finance and marketing. I was more into finance so I wanted a job in that area as well.
The placement process started earlier than I expected; around the middle of September, Copal Partners confirmed that they would come for recruitment to our college. Then Grail research also confirmed participation in the recruitment process. I applied for both the companies but I did not finally take part in the placement process of these two companies. This was not because I had changed my mind, but due to the fact that when they came, I was already placed in one the best companies anyone can start their career with – Deloitte.
Even though this was the first time I had ever given a job interview, I got placed in Deloitte with the job description being ‘tax consultant I’. This job deals withU.S.taxation and the location offered to us isHyderabad, with a salary package of Rs. 4 Lacs per annum. The placement process was divided into two different sessions, with the first being the aptitude and reasoning tests and the second, the interview rounds. The first session constituted of four different tests:
1. English language
2. Logical reasoning and Data interpretation
3. Accountancy and MS Excel
4.Versant test
The excel round was a simulation of MS Excel, whereas in the Versant test proficiency spoken English was tested. Each of these rounds was an elimination round. Through the whole process, I found the HR person, Achina Sharma, very helpful. All these rounds were held on the 12thof October. There were three rounds of interviews, which were as follows:
1. HR round
2. Technical round
3. Final round
The interviews got over by around 8:30 p.m. and the result was declared at around 9 p.m. Five of us from Jaipuria got selected.
The faculty was of great help in preparing us for the interviews. Prof. Pratibha Wasan was especially helpful, as she prepared a set of questions which might be asked and then helped us refresh the basic concepts of accountancy and finance. The placement cell of our college also prepared us well for the aptitude tests by conducting several aptitude tests and mock GDs/PIs.
The whole experience at Jaipuria Institute of Management was amazing; as there were lots of companies coming in for recruitment, and we were guided through the maze of the placement process every step of the way by the faculty and staff.

Jaipuria Lucknow Jaipuria Lucknow Placement Update STUDENT Speaks

“However far-fetched, wild, and unique your idea might be, Jaipuria, Lucknow will always encourage you.”

The interviewing process of TVS Motors was known be rather exhaustive. Gagandeep knew that Jaipuria Lucknow was one of the few B-schools in India, which dedicated a substantive part of its second year in preparing its students for placement interviews; still he could not get rid of his apprehensiveness.
“In the second year at Jaipuria Lucknow, for 2 hours every day without fail, we would do a complete post-mortem of all national dailies. Expectedly, the first few rounds of the TVS Motors interview simply revolved around general awareness, quants, aptitude and reasoning. Even in the final round where we had a face-to-face interview, the stress was quite a lot on analysis of current events. The impetus of the initial rounds carried me through the situation appreciation test, and the GD, where we had to explain and stand-by our reactions to the situation. The interviewing Officer, Mr Ramalingam, was a psychologist and had been assessing the mental attributes of people for the last 30 years, and knew what he was looking for in prospective employees.”
With schooling in Himachal Pradesh and Birla Vidyamandir in Nainital, Gagandeep has been a hosteller for as long as he can remember. After hisBTech in Computer Sciencefrom Amity, Noida, he decided to top-off his education with a PGDM in Marketing and Finance from Jaipuria Lucknow.
“However far-fetched, wild, and unique your idea; Jaipuria,Lucknow will always encourage you. My first year Internship at IFFCO fertilizers, was a revelation. My communication skills had undergone a complete transformation in Jaipuria, Lucknow.I was to carry out a survey on three different aspects. Firstly, the strategy for the existing products; secondly, upcoming products in the fertiliser market, and lastly use of technology in the industry. Obviously I had to create three separate questionnaires and thereafter interview DGM’s of 10 competing fertiliser companies. Not only did I manage to complete the task, but even today I’m in touch with most of the DGM’s.”
Gagandeep joined TVS Motors on the 17th of May 2012, and is currently undergoing the orientation programme. He observes that TVS lives up to its tag of being an employee-centric organisation.
Jaipuria Lucknow was, is, and will always remain the knowledge centre for me; a place where you can start anything. I remember how our batch, encouraged by Reena Ma’am, decided to start classes for underprivileged children. We descended on the nearby slums, encouraging dwellers to allow their children to study. In out after-class hours of Jaipuria, Lucknow, we taught these kids. We even arranged for their pick and drop, and their meals at Jaipuria, Lucknow as well, and when the time came to move on we selected a motivated bunch from our junior batch to keep this fire burning.”

An Insight on Consumer Behaviour

As a part of Jaipuria Institute of Management’s strong industry interface programme, Mr. Vishal Khanna, Marketing Manager at Reliance Infocom, shared his expert knowledge of consumer behaviour with students and faculty at the Jaipuria Noida campus. The event was set in the backdrop of the recent placement of two interns from Jaipuria Noida with Reliance Infocom for the summer training programme.
Showing keen insight into the consumer’s decision-making process, Mr. Khanna took the future managers from Jaipuria Noida through the entire consumer behaviour process. This included how a consumer decides onproduct specifications, how he searches for suppliers, seeks proposal solicitation, carries out selection and finally, carries out post-purchase evaluation.
Mr. Khanna made his talk interesting by sharing many real life situations faced by him and his company with the students of Jaipuria Noida. “The actual study of consumer behaviour begins only when the consumer seeks proposal solicitation. With time, consumer behaviour has become a very complex process that is highly researched, and is critical for the success of a product and a company,” he said.
In an interactive way, Mr. Khanna discussed a number of case studies with the youngsters of Jaipuria Noida, which showed how consumer behaviour varied from department to department even within the same organisation.
“There are a number of reasons for this. Some of these are: difference in perceptions of departments involved, conflict – technical versus commercial, cost reduction versusincreasing efficiency – which is pretty much Finance versus HR. The role of individuals also has a part to play in consumer behaviour.”
Mr. Khanna’s talk covered all aspects of consumer behaviour, from the reasons behind different buying behaviour for same product, to challenges faced in selling products to the corporate buyer as well as the retail customer. He brought out various examples of how companies try to overcome these challenges, particularly through communications aimed at the target consumer. Step by step, Mr. Khanna took the aspiring managers at Jaipuria Noida through the process of the creation and implementation of a ‘Brand Recall Strategy.’
“By the time you pass out from Jaipuria Noida, you will know that the one who knows his consumer, and has studied the nature and requirements of his consumer well, is most likely to win the deal,” concluded Mr. Vishal Khanna, Marketing Manager, Reliance Infocom.
“I feel absolutely in touch with the industry now,” said Mohammed of the 2011-13 batch of Jaipuria Noida. “Thanks to our faculty at Jaipuria, we knew most of the terminology used by Mr. Vishal Khanna, and were able to make sense of what he was saying. It was great to learn from the experience of such a senior manager at Reliance Infocom.”
With two of their peers placed with Reliance Infocom this year for summer internships and the valuable industry interface with Mr. Vishal Khanna, students of Jaipuria Noida feel that this is just the beginning of a long-term relationship between Jaipuria Noida and Reliance Infocom.
